Breast is best
A US woman is selling her breast milk - because her baby cannot keep up with her supply.
Martha Heller, from Iowa, has taken out a newspaper ad offering three litres of her milk for $200.
She claims her freezer is overflowing with breast milk she has pumped since August because her four-month-old daughter is not drinking as much as she is producing.
Heller now donates to the University of Iowa’s Mother’s Milk Bank, but the three litres of milk she wants to sell were pumped before she went through the screening process for the bank and cannot be donated.
She said she researched laws regarding the sale of breast milk and could not find any in Iowa.
Breast milk can be safely stored in a freezer for up to three months.
