British rockers MUSE have been stripped of a hometown honour in Teignmouth, England after local dignitaries realised what their name stood for.
Council chairman David Cox was looking forward to honouring the group with a ‘Home Of Muse’ billboard at the entrance to the town, but has had second thoughts.
A local opponent to the sign alerted him to the fact that MUSE is an acronym for Medicated Urethral Suppository For Erection - and the honour was scrapped.
Cox says, "I thought the slogan would create a fresher, younger image for the town, but now I see the Muse slogan might not send the right message."

An OZZY OSBOURNE fanatic had to be tasered by police at the rocker’s concert in South Dakota on Wednesday night (07Nov07) after refusing to curb his enthusiasm.
The unnamed 16-year-old started a mosh-pit at the front of the stage towards the end of Osbourne’s set in Sioux City and security staff were forced to move in to stop him from injuring other audience members.
The teenager ignored security men, who then left police to deal with the over-excited youth.
When he refused to calm down and after he injured a police officer, he was tasered and removed from the audience.
The teen now faces a date in juvenile court on misdemeanour charges of interference with official acts, failure to obey a police officer and assault on a police officer.

Hip-hop mogul RUSSELL SIMMONS has filmed a new public service announcement for the Humane Society, denouncing dog fighting.
The Def Jam co-founder-turned-designer and entrepreneur fronts the disturbing new TV ads, which feature a muzzled pet being thrown into a fighting ring.
Simmons says, "There is nothing slick, cool or glamorous about dog fighting." The new ads will debut in America next week (beg12Nov07).

Rocker NIKKI SIXX has confirmed TOMMY LEE is no longer a member of reunited rockers MOTLEY CRUE following a showdown between the two bandmates.
Lee announced his resignation from the band earlier this year (07) after falling out with Sixx and fellow bandmates Vince Neil and Mick Mars, after the trio joined forces to take the drummer’s manager Carl Stubner to court, accusing him of persuading the rocker to choose two TV reality shows over a lucrative Motley Crue tour.
The trio claimed Stubner’s actions and Lee’s appearances on Tommy Lee Goes To College and Rock Star: Supernova cost them a small fortune and severly damaged the band’s reputation. They are currently suing Stubner for lost earnings.
Lee quit the group in September (07), before changing his mind a day later and issuing a statement that he was still a Motley Crue member.
But now Sixx has revealed he has asked the drummer to leave the band - and Lee agreed to quit for good.
The guitarist says, "He’s out of the band, that’s just the way it is.
"Tommy Lee kept f**king around and I said, `You know what dude, you’ve got to knock it off’. He said, `I f**king quit.’ I said, `Fine, I still love you, but I don’t have time for this.’"

Actor CHARLIE SHEEN has denied reports he and his ex-wife DENISE RICHARDS have resolved issues over the custody of their two young daughters, calling the claims "absurd".
The actor slammed reports in U.S. magazine Life & Style alleging the warring pair had settled their differences by agreeing that daughters Sam, three, and Lola, two, would go to therapy.
And Sheen insists things are far from settled.
The Two and a Half Men star says, "A published report last week detailing the outcome of our proposed custody settlement couldn’t be further from the truth.
"The idea that we would agree to the exact provisions we’ve fought so hard to overcome is absurd.
"Once again, this derisive fiction recklessly provided by an ‘inside source’ is as transparent and baseless as the entire case against us (Sheen and fiancee Brooke Mueller)." Life & Style reported that Sheen and Richards had resolved matters during a six-hour mediation last month (23Oct07).
They have spent months battling it out in the courts over the amount of time Sheen has with his children and his right to choose the nannies for their kids - rather than allowing his ex-wife’s employees into his home.

AMY WINEHOUSE has finally been granted a U.S. work visa - after having her initial application denied earlier this week (05Nov07).
The singer had her first request turned down on Monday, when she was seen entering the American Embassy in London’s Grosvenor Square dressed smartly for a formal interview.
But it proved second time lucky for Winehouse after she succeeded in getting the visa on Thursday (08Nov07).
She was previously denied the pass after she and husband Blake Fielder-Civil were arrested for marijuana possession in Norway last month (Oct07).
And Winehouse could be looking to make her move more permanent - she is currently looking for a property in Miami, Florida, according to reports.

Rockers MICK JAGGER and CHARLIE WATTS have denied reports they are to make a special appearance at the LED ZEPPELIN reunion show.
The pair quashed rumours stating that they would perform alongside guest stars Pete Townshend, Foreigner, Bill Wyman and the Rhythm Kings at the 10 December (07) concert at London’s O2 Arena.
But Jagger and Watts did wish the reformed group good luck.
A statement released on Thursday (08Nov07) says, "Contrary to media speculation, Mick Jagger and Charlie Watts will not be participating in any way at the Led Zeppelin concert in December, but wish them well for a great gig."

Colombian pop superstar SHAKIRA has yet to start planning for her wedding to fiance ANTONIO DE LA RUA - because she’s "too busy".
The 30-year-old - who announced her engagement to the son of former Argentinean president Fernando de la Rua in March 2001 - admits her nuptials have been put on hold as a result of her packed work schedule.
She tells PeopleEnEspanol.com, "I don’t have time, but we’re patient. We’ll get married eventually, or we won’t, but we’re together and that’s what matters. "We love each other and we want to stay like that. Why fix something that’s not broken?"

BRITNEY SPEARS ignored eight random drug test requests, according to her ex KEVIN FEDERLINE’s attorney.
The dancer’s lawyer, Mark Vincent Kaplan, made the allegations in an emergency hearing he had called in Los Angeles on Thursday (08Nov07) to discuss the former couple’s ongoing custody battle. Neither Spears nor Federline - who has been granted custody of their two boys - appeared in court for the last-minute meeting.
Under the latest court ruling, Spears is allowed to see her boys - Sean Preston, two, and Jayden James, one - three times a week, but must follow an earlier court order to undergo mandatory drug and alcohol tests and well as attend joint parenting sessions with dancer Federline.
But Kaplan claims Spears has violated the court drug test order by ignoring eight out of a total of 14 requests and lives in a "parallel universe".
He also told the court, "Mr. Federline doesn’t want to take these children out of their mother’s life, but what are we to do?" However, Spears’ new lawyer, Anne Kiley, has defended the star’s actions and branded the drug testing procedure "unconstitutional", claiming a missed test does not indicate a positive one.
And Kiley also hit back at Los Angeles Superior Court Commissioner Scott Gordon when he said the early morning requests for the tests were not "unreasonable".
But Kiley claimed superstars like Spears were not used to being woken up at 8am, retorting: "You are not a pop star with a number one album, so you don’t know." If Spears is proved to have violated the drug-testing procedures, she faces having her visitation rights suspended until she follows the court order.
The hearing continues.

KIEFER SUTHERLAND’s tense drama 24 has become the latest TV show hit by the Hollywood writers strike, which began on Monday (05Nov07).
Bosses at Fox, the network which airs the show in America - are refusing to air the new season of 24 until they are guaranteed the entire series can be aired without interruption.
Fox scheduling chief Preston Beckman tells trade paper Daily Variety, "The viewers have told us that this is a show that needs to be digested with minimal, if any, interruptions." 24’s new season was scheduled to debut in January (08). It now looks likely that the show won’t hit TV sets until the spring (08).
It will be replaced by Terminator TV spin-off The Sarah Connor Chronicles, which was set to air later next year (08), and hit show Prison Drama’s hiatus has been cancelled. The show will continue to air after the holidays. Cast and crew have joined the picket lines on their breaks as they continue to work on the available scripted episodes. Desperate Housewives and Grey’s Anatomy are among the other hit shows hit by the strike.
Late-night chats shows like The Tonight Show and The Late Show are running repeats this week (begs05Nov07) because of the walkout.

UGLY BETTY actress ASHLEY JENSEN has blasted skinny Hollywood stars for their constant dieting - because their "irresponsible" behaviour sets a bad example to young fans.
The BAFTA award-winner - who plays wardrobe assistant Christina in the hit U.S. TV series - is angered by fellow celebrities who cut down on food so that they look slimmer on screen.

She tells WENN, "I like my food and wine too much to diet all the time. I don’t think it’s a particularly good thing starving yourself to look thin for the cameras anyway. I don’t think it’s very responsible.

LATEST: Comedienne ROSIE O’DONNELL has lost out on a deal to host her chat show - because network MSNBC "panicked" when she let slip details of the programme before negotiations had been finalised.
O’Donnell was in talks to front a new primetime programme for the American cable channel earlier this week (begs05Nov07) - but admits her excited comments at the prospect of taking on CNN’s Larry King caused the deal to fall through.
Writing on her website blog, she says, "we were close to a deal. almost done.
i let it slip in miami, causing panic on the studio end.
"well, what can u do. 2day there is no deal… poof. my career as a pundit is over b4 it began." But according to Fox News, it was O’Donnell’s reluctance to commit to further presenting duties which resulted in negotiations being called off.
The U.S. news channel reports, “The network couldn’t afford to make a deal for Rosie just based on a nighttime show.
“It would have to have been tied into something else on daytime. The problem with that? O’Donnell doesn’t want to return to a grueling daytime schedule while her kids are in school.” The chat show would have been O’Donnell’s first since she quit daytime talk show The View in May (07).

Actor MICKEY ROURKE was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence in Florida on Thursday morning (08Nov07).
The Sin City star - real name Philip Andre Rourke Jr. - had just left a Miami Beach nightclub with an unnamed woman at around 4am when he was busted for making an illegal turn on his Vespa scooter - right in front of a policeman.
A paparazzo who witnessed the incident tells TMZ.com, "They… crossed Washington Avenue to go to his scooter. They both got on it, and he did a U-turn to go north. He was pulled over within a block.
"The cop says to him: ‘You swerved right in front of me.’ And Mickey answered, ‘No, no, dude, I’m all right.’" According to the police report, Rourke’s eyes were bloodshot, his face flushed and his speech slurred as he told the officer: "What the f**k did I do?!" before saying, "I’m not drunk, I didn’t even drink that much." The 51-year-old was booked into the Miami-Dade Pre-trial Detention Center at 9.30am local time and is being held on $1,000 (£500) bond.

BACKSTREET BOY NICK CARTER has ruled out ever getting back together with his ex PARIS HILTON - because she isn’t "intelligent" enough.
But Carter, who split from the hotel heiress in July 2004 after dating for seven months, insists his experience with Hilton has not put him off dating another high-profile star.
