Country star JOHN MICHAEL MONTGOMERY has launched his own record label and will release his next album as the company’s first.
Montgomery will serve as chief executive officer of Stringtown Records.
The news ends the singer/songwriter’s long career at Atlantic Records, where he enjoyed seven number one country singles in America and huge hits like I Love The Way You Love Me and The Little Girl.
According to country website CMT.com, the new label is expected to sign other artists after the release of Montgomery’s new album.

BACKSTREET BOYS star NICK CARTER has been banned from an unnamed hotel chain when a candlelit evening went awry.
The boy band star decided to light candles in his suite but didn’t stop to think where all the melted wax would go.
He reveals, "I had them (candles) all in a circle in this room and I didn’t realise, ‘Oh that’s right, these candles bleed.’ "So they bled into the carpet and then they bled into the TV and I caused like $5,000 damage in this one hotel, and they still won’t let me go there to this day."

RINGO STARR thrilled THE BEATLES fans by hoisting the only Fab Four flag high above Los Angeles’ Capitol Records building on Tuesday (06Nov07).
The ceremony was held to mark the release of the limited edition Help! DVD boxed set, and now the flag will fly high above Hollywood for the next 10 days.
The flag, which bears the artwork of The Beatles’ 1965 movie, will then be sold to the highest bidder at an upcoming eBay.com auction, which will benefit The Nordoff-Robbins Music Therapy Foundation.
The buyer of the flag will also receive a certificate of authenticity personally signed by Starr, and a limited edition Help! boxed set.
The upcoming charity auction’s top bidder and a guest will enjoy a special VIP tour of world-famous Abbey Road Studios while on holiday in London.

LATEST: Brave MARIE OSMOND has vowed to dance again, despite suffering the loss of her beloved father on Tuesday (06Nov07).
The singer was preparing for the live Dancing With The Stars results show (06Nov07) and a family special on TV show Oprah on Friday (09Nov07) when she heard the tragic news.
Joined by brother Donny in Los Angeles, Osmond cancelled her immediate schedule and flew home to Utah to meet up with her other siblings, leaving producers at Dancing With The Stars fearing she wouldn’t return to the show.
But Marie, who dedicated her Monday night (05Nov07) dance to her dad George and late mum Olive, insists she will be back to challenge the likes of Spice Girls star Melanie Brown and actress Jennie Garth for the dancing crown.
Show publicist Aime Wolfe has confirmed Osmond plans to return to the show next week (beg12Nov07).
The Osmonds family special will also go ahead on Friday, according to Winfrey’s publicist Don Halcombe.

Dance music star MOBY is offering independent filmmakers the opportunity to use his music for free in their movies.
The Porcelain hitmaker, a one-time film student, has placed music on website MobyGratis.com for independent, non-profit and student moviemakers to use for soundtracks of their works.
He says, "The biggest complaint I hear from my friends who are indie filmmakers is that they can’t get calls returned from record companies or that licensing quotes are outlandish.
"Whenever I tell anyone about this (offer), people keep expecting a catch.
There isn’t one. I structured it so that it’s impossible for me to make any money from it." Moby recently scored Donnie Darko director Richard Kelly’s new movie Southland Tales, which is due for release in the U.S. on 14 November (07).

Rockers MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE face a potential lawsuit from the University Of Maine after the band cancelled a recent show there.
The group was scheduled to perform at the university on 27 October (07), but axed the show at the last minute due to a "medical issue" involving drummer Bob Bryar.
According to Gigwise.com, student officials have requested $20,500 (£10,250) to cover costs, in letters sent to the band’s management, and now insist they want the cash by 12 November (07) or the matter will become legal.
My Chemical Romance have offered to reschedule the concert, but the students have declined the offer, stating they want the cash they’re owed for advertising and promoting the cancelled show instead.
In college newspaper the Maine Campus, the president of student entertainment, Derek Mitchell, writes, "Unless it is truly due to sickness or injury of the band, we intend to seek full damages for breach of contract."

Rocker ALICE COOPER has no words of wisdom for troubled stars AMY WINEHOUSE and PETE DOHERTY, because they have to "hit rock bottom" before they will allow anyone to help them.
The 60-year-old star is famed for living the wild rock ‘n’ roll lifestyle during his youth, but has since kicked his drug and alcohol habit.
And he believes other substance abusers can only seek help once they’ve reached their drug limit.
He says, "Some people are bent on destroying themselves and you can’t talk them out of it. You have to reach rock bottom first." Both Winehouse and Doherty have spent time in rehab this year (07), and they have also recently been in trouble with the law over drug offences.

Scottish actress ASHLEY JENSEN regrets not asking VICTORIA BECKHAM for SPICE GIRLS tickets when they met on the set of UGLY BETTY.
The BAFTA award-winner - who plays wardrobe assistant Christina in the hit U.S. TV series - was so dazzled by the star when she made a cameo appearance on the show recently (Oct07), she forgot to ask for tickets to the band’s upcoming tour.
Speaking at Cosmopolitan’s Ultimate Women of the Year Awards in London on Tuesday (06Nov07), she tells WENN, "It was good to meet Victoria because I had this impression of her which was so far from reality. She was much more normal than I expected, more of a real woman, somehow.
"But I missed a trick not asking her for Spice Girls tickets. I so should have asked. I’m a big fan - I know all the songs, it would have been a laugh… Do you think it’s too late to call up and beg?"

SIR ANTHONY HOPKINS is to play movie mogul ALFRED HITCHCOCK in a new biopic about the revered director.
Hopkins insists he has been such a fan of the filmmaker’s work over the years, he feels he’s the right guy to portray his fellow Brit - and pay a proper tribute to him.
Hopkins says, "I’m not one of those guys who went to film school and watched Hitchcock movies in order to study, but I admire people who know all about Hitchcock.
"I’m a real Hitchcock fan. I know all about the movies and had a closer look at why he set that shot up in the way that he did and the skill and rhythm of his movies like Rear Window and Vertigo.
"He was really quite astonishing and there’s so much wit to his work.
"I think those scenes between Grace Kelly and Jimmy Stewart in Rear Window are so witty and sophisticated. This film I’m going to do is about the making of Psycho and Hitchcock’s doubts about himself.
"He never had any real confidence and never felt that he was successful. He always felt a bit like a failure." In playing the director, Hopkins will attempt to forget a brief meeting he had with Hitchcock early in his career.
He explains, "I met him once very briefly. He was sitting at a place called Ma Maison and I was sitting with my agent… He had just been knighted and he was very heavy, enormous; he looked ill. That was my one contact with him."

BRITNEY SPEARS’ mother has publicly blamed herself for the pop superstar’s woes - because she couldn’t be with her daughter as she grew up on tour.
Lynne Spears, 52, insists her daughter’s problems have been building up for years, and now the singer’s a mess as she battles for custody of her kids.
Worried Lynne fell out with the singer earlier this year (07) after she was part of an intervention party that reportedly forced Britney into rehab, but she insists her daughter has been showing signs of losing it for years.
In an exclusive interview with America’s Life & Style magazine, Lynne claims her troubled daughter would be in a much better place if she had joined her on the road after her pop career took off.
She says, "I wish I’d been there more while she was touring, but I couldn’t be. I had the other kids to look after.
"I didn’t raise my children to have Hollywood careers. This all just exploded in my face, and big dreams became big headaches." Britney’s problems seem to be getting worse. She lost custody of her sons, Sean Preston, two, and Jayden James, one, to ex-husband Kevin Federline, and her visits with her boys must be supervised by a court-appointed monitor.
The monitor recently criticised Britney’s parenting skills and asserted that the singer is "often distracted and in her own world when she has the kids." Spears has also suffered a string of legal setbacks this year - she was forced to settle one hit and run charge out of court and faces another one after driving over a police officer’s foot. She is also being sued for unpaid commissions by former manager Johnny Wright.

GEORGE CLOONEY and romance icon FABIO stunned diners at Hollywood’s swanky Madeo restaurant on Friday (02Nov07), when they exchanged fighting words over a photo session.
Actor Fabio was dining with friends when one stood to take photos close to a table Clooney was sharing with his girlfriend Sarah Larson.
According to America’s In Touch Weekly magazine, Clooney thought the photographer was trying to take shots of him and asked her to stop - a request which annoyed his fellow diner.
The magazine reports Fabio went over to Clooney’s table to explain, but the conversation became heated, and the long-haired actor was overheard telling the Ocean’s Eleven star, "I thought you were a nice guy. Stop being a diva!" The encounter prompted angry Clooney to stand up and approach Fabio.
An eyewitness tells In Touch, "The waiters broke it up before it got out of hand.
"George looked annoyed… George was drinking but he wasn’t drunk." Clooney reportedly skipped the rest of his meal, asked for his bill and left.
Fabio’s manager has refused to comment about the incident, but says, "George is lucky he didn’t end up in the ER (emergency room)." Fabio and Clooney weren’t the only celebrities dining at the restaurant on the night of the scuffle - Dame Helen Mirren and Joe Pesci were also guests of Madeo.

British actress JANE SEYMOUR has confessed to having breast implants - despite previously denying ever having gone under the knife.
The former Bond girl, 56, used to attribute her enviable figure to good genes and a healthy diet - but has now admitted to having had a minor eyelift in addition to a small chest enlargement, to help regain her looks after giving birth to twins in 1996.
But Seymour’s breast enhancements were so small, doctors had to order custom implants for her.
She says, "My plastic surgeon had to special order them." Talking about her eye surgery, she adds, "It was more than a decade ago.
Genetically, I had baggy eyes and photographers said they didn’t want to spend money endlessly having to eradicate them."

LATEST: GISELE BUNDCHEN’s manager sister has denied reports the supermodel demands to be paid in Euros instead of U.S. dollars, insisting the claims are "ridiculous".
The Brazilian beauty was alleged to have refused payment in American currency because the dollar is "too weak".
But her sister Patricia Bundchen, who was credited for the quotes, has denied making any such comment and claims the supermodel is simply "bemused" by the reports.
Patricia says, "It’s a joke by some journalist, it’s ridiculous.
"I never said that to any press organisation. We never talk about Gisele’s contracts, and even less so the money involved.
"(Gisele) is continuing to sign her contracts in dollars or euros, as she has always done.
"She is bemused by these reactions. This information is not true … I do not recall ever having said anything that could be interpreted in that way."

ROBERT REDFORD has laughed off reports his actor pal PAUL NEWMAN’s retirement was the result of poor health, insisting his BUTCH CASSIDY & THE SUNDANCE KID partner is "doing fine".
Newman, 82, announced his retirement in May (07), blaming memory loss and a lack of confidence for his decision - but he’s been keeping busy away from the cameras by challenging Redford to badminton matches.
Redford tells U.S. chatshow host Larry King, "Somebody said recently (that) he retired because his health was going bad and this is nonsense. The guy beats me in badminton. He’s hardly (ill) - he’s doing fine." And the Spy Game star has dismissed rumours he was angered at the timing of Newman’s retirement, which forced Redford to scrap plans to make a film version of Bill Bryson’s wonderful book A Walk In The Woods with his longtime friend.
He adds, "I just respect his decision. If that’s what he wants to do it’s his life. That’s his choice. I mean… Paul is my friend and whatever he wants to do is good for me. If he wants to retire, that’s his business."

Rock legend ALICE COOPER has likened his addiction to alcohol and drugs to his favourite pastime - golf.
Cooper, 59, believes the sport is a cure for any reformed addict and is more rock ‘n’ roll than some may think.
He says, "Every guy I know from Lou Reed to Bob Dylan to Neil Young, they all play golf. It’s because they were all drug users or alcoholics and I think golf is so addictive that it’s just like taking drugs.
"You know, it’s like you’re always looking for that next great hit. It’s the same thing in golf, you’re always looking for that next great shot."
