CONNERY GOLF CLUB DISPUTE SETTLED
Scottish actor SIR SEAN CONNERY has settled a legal battle against a Californian golf club he accused of cashing in on his celebrity status. The former 007 star launched a $1 million (£500,000) lawsuit against Sherwood Country Club last year (06), claiming the exclusive club reneged on an agreement over image rights.
Connery, 77, was invited to join the club near Los Angeles in 1990 in exchange for Sherwood using his image to promote the sale of luxury properties built nearby.
He quit the club in 2004, but claimed club bosses continued to use his picture and refused to refund his membership fee as was agreed.
Sherwood disputed Connery’s version of events, but the case has been settled out of court with Connery receiving an unspecified cash settlement - one day before the case was due to be heard on Wednesday (07Nov07).
