CHOREOGRAPHER MOISEYEV DIES
Celebrated Russian choreographer IGOR MOISEYEV has died. He was 101.
Moiseyev died from heart failure on Friday (02Nov07), according to the Agency for Culture and Cinema.
The dance expert left the Bolshoi Ballet in 1937 to form a world-renowned folk ballet troupe and worked with the group up until his death.
Former Bolshoi dance star Lyudmila Semenyaka has paid tribute to Moiseyev.
She says, "Moiseyev played an exceptional role in world dance. He took folk dance to an incredible height, creating a new form of choreography.
"(This) tragic news has shaken me." President Vladimir Putin has also sent his condolences to Moiseyev’s relatives and friends.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday (07Nov07) at Moscow’s Chaikovsky Concert Hall.
