RECORD BOSS: ‘GREEDY ARTISTS NEED TO WORK HARDER’

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 3:39 pm

LILY ALLEN, COLDPLAY, ROBBIE WILLIAMS and KYLIE MINOGUE are among a number of acts under threat because of radical plans by British music label EMI to drop recording artists who are "not working hard enough" for their label.
New boss Guy Hands, who took over the company in August (07), has slammed greedy singer/songwriters signed to any of the company’s subsidiary labels including EMI records and Parlophone - for requesting huge advances and giving little in return.
In a leaked memo obtained by British newspaper the Financial Times, staff are warned that no star is safe under the new regime.
Hands writes, "Some (artists) unfortunately simply focus on negotiating for the maximum advance.
"There is no reason why we should not be more selective in whom we choose to work with." No specific artists were named in the memo.
In 2001 EMI forked out $39 million (£19 million) to get out of a contract with Mariah Carey, just one album into a five album deal. The singer went on to have one of the top-selling albums of 2005 with EMI’s rival, Universal.

McCARTNEY INVITES MILLS FOR CRISIS TALKS

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 3:38 pm

SIR PAUL MCCARTNEY has held crisis talks with estranged wife HEATHER MILLS at his English home in an attempt to put an end to the drama surrounding their divorce.
The former Beatle reportedly invited Mills, 39, to his country estate to thrash out divorce matters on Friday (02Nov07) - just days after criticising him in a string of live television interviews in the U.K and U.S.
According to the British press, Mills’ public outbursts are an attempt to force McCartney’s hand in negotiating a divorce settlement out of court.
A source tells British newspaper the Daily Mail, "If he didn’t bring her back within the fold as soon as possible her rantings would become increasingly specific and perhaps damaging to him.
"Paul decided that to try and thrash out some kind of immediate deal would be the best response." The development has taken Mills by surprise - only yesterday she was told by aides her tirade against her ex-husband will be disastrous to a divorce settlement, as well as to hopes of getting full custody of daughter Beatrice, four.

MILLS FACES PRISON?

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 3:36 pm

A top celebrity divorce lawyer has warned HEATHER MILLS could lose custody of her daughter after TV outbursts against SIR PAUL McCARTNEY - and be handed a prison sentence.
British Lawyer Vanessa Lloyd Platt warned the ex-model, 39, that she was bringing her abilities as a mother into question.
She says, "Paul’s team could get psychologists and psychiatrists to look at her demeanour and ask ‘is she able to look after Beatrice?’ "Has she acted in the welfare and interests of her child? Those are the kind of questions that a judge will be asking." Lloyd Platt claims Mills has broken British law with her public rants.
She says, "Divorce cases like this you are not allowed to talk about the details. Paul could get a gagging order saying ‘you’re not allowed to talk about this any more.’ "She could go to to prison if she breaches that order."

BABYSHAMBLES DRUMMER: ‘MOSS WAS A BAD INFLUENCE’

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 3:35 pm

Supermodel KATE MOSS was "detrimental" to her ex-boyfriend PETE DOHERTY’s band BABYSHAMBLES, according to drummer ADAM FICEK.
Moss teamed up with Doherty to write four tracks on the Babyshambles’ new album Shotters Nation before the end of their romance in July (07) - but Ficek maintains she was "a curse" on the rockers.
He says, "When Kate was with Pete that was all everybody cared about, and our music suffered. Kate was detrimental to the band. It was all about the lead singer and his girlfriend, not the rest of the band.
"Since she’s gone we’ve surprised ourselves at how well we’re doing. Pete’s much more focused now. There’s no way we would be invited to play at MTV with the likes of Snoop Dogg if we were how we were when Kate was still around."

BEE MOVIE STAR SEINFELD STUNG

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 3:30 pm

Funnyman JERRY SEINFELD discovered he’ll never be an honorary bee, despite playing one in new animated film BEE MOVIE, after getting stung by one.
The comedian researched his role as a cartoon bee in the film by visiting a beekeeper - and he felt so confident, he chose not to wear protection.
Seinfeld recalls, "The beekeeper said, `You don’t need to wear any protective gear because, if you handle bees properly, they will not sting you.
"Well, he didn’t know what he was talking about and I think he got excited that he had a celebrity come and look at his bees.
"He said, `Do you want to see the Queen?’ and I said, `OK,’ so he started pulling things out, looking for the Queen. Well the bees weren’t too crazy about that. They like the Queen to be left alone: `Don’t mess with our Queen!’ "So they sent this bee on a suicide mission - to get me. I felt like I was stung by one of my own."

SMITHSONIAN BOSSES RETURN MANILOW JACKET

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 3:26 pm

Officials at the Smithsonian Institute returned BARRY MANILOW’s colourful COPACABANA jacket to the singer after he poked fun at the American museum complex.
Manilow was thrilled to learn curators wanted to add his jacket to the Smithsonian, where America’s most important historical and cultural items are exhibited.
But he blew the honour when he joked it onstage - and superserious museum bosses heard about it.
He explains, "They asked me for it and they sent it back. I kinda made a wisecrack about it; I gave an interview and I said, `I always knew the jacket would wind up in an institution,’ and they said, `You can’t make fun of the Smithsonian,’ and they sent the thing back.
"There’s no sense of humour at the Smithsonian.
"So we framed it and we have it in the Copacabana Bar at the Hilton (hotel in Las Vegas)."
