HOLLYWOOD WRITERS STRIKE TO START ON MONDAY?
LATEST: Hollywood is bracing itself for the first writers strike in 20 years after final negotiations between studio bosses and union officials broke down on Wednesday night (31Oct07).
The mass walk-out is expected to start as early as Monday (05Nov07) as all those involved await a union email, pinpointing the details and dates of a strike, this weekend.
Ongoing talks between the Writers Guild of America and producers were still deadlocked at the close of a heated meeting on Wednesday night, which led to a rally at the Los Angeles Convention Center on Thursday night (01Nov07).
More than 3,000 film and TV writers took part in the rally.
The writers are upset that they are not properly compensated for programmes distributed over the Internet.
Once the strike starts, chat shows and topical news programmes are expected to be the worst hit as writers walk out leaving skeleton non-union crews to pen skits, jokes and talking points.
