Oscar winner HILARY SWANK has received a haircut from talk show host OPRAH WINFREY as part of a cancer charity campaign.
The Million Dollar Baby star had been growing her locks long so she could donate them to a cancer sufferer, through hair product giant Pantene’s Beautiful Lengths campaign.
The charity push aims to encourage women and men to cut and donate their hair for wigs to aid cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy.
During an appearance on U.S. TV’s Oprah Winfrey Show, set to air in America on Friday (02Nov07), Swank had nine inches of her flowing hair cut off by the media mogul.
She said, "I’ve been growing it for the last six months to donate my hair.
I’ve been taking a lot of vitamins and taking really good care of it, knowing that it would go to a woman in need." Winfrey added, "It’s taken months to get to this moment. It involves a two-time Academy Award winner, a sharp object, and me."

CARRIE UNDERWOOD has put rumours her ex is now dating BRITNEY SPEARS behind her by claiming the top spot on America’s new albums chart.

The Toxic singer, who is currently embroiled in a child custody battle with ex-husband Kevin Federline, insists she doesn’t pay any attention to the tabloid media.

"I guess people say what they want and do what they do. It’s sad how cruel people can be.

LINDSAY LOHAN’s aides are going out of their way to make sure the actress/singer stays sober after spending much of the summer in rehab - they’ve told staff at all her old hangouts not to let her drink alcohol.
The Mean Girls star found this out for herself when she tried to order vodka at Los Angeles’ Viceroy hotel on 19 October (07).
A staff member at the hotel reveals Lohan spent an hour sipping water, but felt the need for something stronger as her friends started to get tipsy.
A source tells Life & Style magazine, "She was fine at first, but it was obviously too soon for her to be around people who were drinking, because she later asked the server for a vodka.
"But her people had called ahead and servers were told not to give in no matter how often Lindsay asked for alcohol." Despite denials about the incident from Lohan’s publicist, a guest at the Viceroy, who overheard the exchange between the actress and a waitress, tells the publication, "I heard the waitress say that she was sorry but she wasn’t allowed to serve her. Lindsay walked out soon after, looking embarrassed."

As the pop star struggles with a custody battle over her two sons by ex-husband Kevin Federline, her parents, Lynne and Jamie, are on the verge of a reconciliation - five years after they divorced.
A source tells America’s Life & Style magazine, "With all Britney’s troubles, Lynne and Jamie started to talk to each other like adults, without the bitterness of feuding parents.
"They’ve been on dates and have cooked each other meals. Jamie has even stayed over at Lynne’s a few times."

A vintage Land Rover once owned by Buddhist leader the DALAI LAMA is to be auctioned off on website eBay.com.
The spiritual hero owned the army green vehicle from 1966 to 1975, and it was recently named among the 10 most exclusive Land Rovers in the world by Land Rover Life magazine.
The highest bidder at the 10-day online auction, which begins on Friday (02Nov07), will also win the chance to sit next to actress Sharon Stone at an upcoming Dalai Lama Foundation gala in San Francisco, California and meet with the Buddhist guru as part of a private teaching session in India next March (08).
Eric Gazin of auction house Auction Cause, the company behind the sale of the vehicle, says, "This is an amazing item that rarely becomes available at auction.
"This was the Dalai Lama’s daily transportation vehicle before he passed it on to his brother, who, in turn, donated it to the Dalai Lama Foundation here in California.
"We understand the Dalai Lama used this Land Rover to visit Buddhist encampments in the Himalayas. Despite its age, it’s in great shape and the transmission has just been re-done, among other things." The auction house reserve price on the vehicle, Sharon Stone meet-and-greet and Dalai Lama teaching session package is $75,000 (£37,500). It is expected to fetch more than double that amount. All proceeds will go to the Dalai Lama Foundation in California.

Claustrophobic actress JENNIFER LOVE HEWITT was left petrified on the set of hit TV show GHOST WHISPERER recently - when she had to spend 14 hours shooting a scene in a tiny tunnel.
The star was less than pleased when she found out her character in the spooky series gets stuck underground in one episode - and she didn’t have to act scared.
She says, "It was awful. It was really tough because my character was supposed to be freaked out but I had to get myself really calm in order to even get myself to go in.
"We were literally in a room the size of a small bathroom with 25 crew members for 14 hours. And I’m supposed to be really, really scared and so I’d done all this work trying to calm myself down, it’s going to be fine, I’m in a peaceful place.
"And I get in there they were like, ‘Now hyperventilate and pretend you don’t like small spaces’ and I said, ‘I don’t like small spaces.’ I was freaking out for 14 hours. I was exhausted.
"At one point it got really bad and they had to let me out. They were nice though - they built a wall that was removable so that I could get out at any time if I freaked out."

MY BEST FRIEND’S WEDDING star DERMOT MULRONEY won’t be celebrating his 44th birthday on Wednesday (31Oct07) after finalising his divorce from actress CHRISTINE KEENER on the same day.
The couple’s marriage status will officially end on 17 December (07).
According to court documents, neither party will pay child or spousal support and they will have joint legal custody of their son Clyde.
The couple cited "irreconcilable differences" for the breakdown of their marriage. Both agreed to a confidential martial settlement agreement.
Keener and Mulroney wed in 1990. Their son was born in 1999.

American reality TV star VINCENT ‘DON VITO’ MARGERA has been found guilty of two counts of sexual assault against children.
The Viva La Bam star - the uncle of Jackass regular Bam Margera - collapsed to the floor screaming, "Just kill me now!" when the verdict was read out in a Jefferson County, Colorado courtroom on Wednesday (31Oct07).
Margera had pleaded not guilty to allegations he groped three underage girls at an MTV appearance in a Colorado mall in August 2006 - he was found guilty on two counts, but acquitted on another.
The 51-year-old faces up to six years in prison on each conviction when he is sentenced on 20 December (07).
Margera still faces 12 felony charges of violating his bail conditions, which include no contact with anyone below the age of 18 and a ban on drugs and alcohol, after he was charged with the three counts of sexual assault earlier this year (07).

Rocker SLASH’s longstanding stage name was coined by veteran character actor SEYMOUR CASSEL.
The former Guns ‘N Roses guitarist, who now plays in Velvet Revolver, was born Saul Hudson and has been a friend of Cassel’s son since childhood.
Cassel decided to name the then-teenage, wannabe musician Slash - because he was so struck by the scheming youngster.
Slash explains, "It was a nickname that Seymour Cassel used to call me. I used to be (and) I’m still good friends with his son, Matt, so I used to hang out over at their house and he always used to call me Slash.
"Basically, he says it was because I was always in a hurry and I was always scheming, I was always hustling, this and that. He always saw me on the go, on the fly.
"So he used to call me Slash and it just stuck. My friends started calling me that and it just became a permanent nickname."

THE POLICE guitarist ANDY SUMMERS is planning to make a documentary film based on his autobiography ONE TRAIN LATER.
The movie will cover Summers’ life from his childhood in England right up to The Police’s current reunion tour, and will feature 25,000 personal photos taken over the years.
Hollywood actor Nicolas Cage will produce the documentary, which Summers hopes to have completed in time to screen at the Sundance Film Festival in early 2009.

Veteran singer EVELYN KNIGHT has died of lung cancer. She was 89.
Knight, who had 13 top 40 hits in the U.S. between 1944 and 1951, passed away on 28 September (07) in a nursing home in San Jose, California.
She is best known for her number one smash hit A Little Bird Told Me, which sold over two million copies in 1949.
Born in 1917 in Reedville, Virginia, Knight moved to Los Angeles in the late 1940s.

LATEST: Musicians JACK WHITE, MERLE HAGGARD and GEORGE JONES have paid to tribute to county music icon PORTER WAGONER, who died on Sunday (28Oct07).
Wagoner passed away at a hospice facility in Nashville, Tennessee after a battle with lung cancer. He was 80.
The White Stripes rocker White will always remember the time he spent with the music legend.
He says, "Porter was a wonderful man. Well-versed and well-dressed.
"I wish I could have spent more time with him and learned more from him. I’m glad that we were able to share a bill together. It was an honour." Haggard was planning to perform with his longtime friend early next year (07).
He states, "I was real close to him… We were talking about doing a show together in January in Portland. We were both real happy about that because we haven’t worked together in a while.
"It’s a great shock and it’s a great loss. I hope the country gives him the send-off he deserves. He was a great American." And fellow country music icon Jones adds, "We always had a good time sharing jokes backstage at the (Grand Ole) Opry (legendary Nashville country music venue) or whatever stage we might be sharing.
"Country music lost a bit of sparkle with the passing of Porter Wagoner."

A savvy North Dakota sheriff used OZZY OSBOURNE and ROB ZOMBIE to catch a group of deadbeat state dads - by inviting them to a hoax meet-and-greet session with the rockers.
Almost 40 rock fans fell for the pre-show prank - and were greeted by officials brandishing handcuffs, instead of the promise of an open bar.
Sheriff Paul D. Laney used the recent Osbourne/Zombie show in Fargo, North Dakota as the backdrop of the disguised sting operation, to which locals who have been ignoring court summonses and child support requests were invited.
Laney tells Rolling Stone magazine, "It was more of a warrant party." A source claims many of those arrested saw the funny side of the clever sheriff’s plan and few turned hostile when they were handcuffed.

LATEST: PRISON BREAK star LANE GARRISON has been jailed for 40 months for causing death by dangerous driving.
Garrison pleaded guilty to charges of vehicular manslaughter without gross negligence, driving under the influence and providing alcohol to a minor in August (07).
In December 2006, Vahagn Setian was a passenger in Garrison’s Land Rover when the actor lost control of the vehicle and crashed after leaving a pre-Christmas party. The 17-year-old was later pronounced dead in hospital.
On Wednesday (31Oct07), Garrison was jailed at Beverly Hills court in California for almost four years. According to website TMZ, Garrison issued an apology to Setian’s family before he was handed his sentence.
He must also pay close to $300,000 (£150,000) to the Setian family and two other passengers. Prior to his sentence Garrison was undergoing an enforced 90-day psychiatric evaluation behind bars at the California Institute for Men in Chino, California.

Convicted rapper SNOOP DOGG is determined to solve Britain’s growing gang problem - if only his ban on entering the U.K. could be lifted. The hip-hop star - real name Cordozar Calvin Broadus Jr. - was banned from the U.K. in March (07) because of his drug convictions and he was arrested and cautioned at Heathrow airport on suspicion of violent disorder and affray in 2006.
And Broadus claims "men in white wigs" and "laws from the 1800s" are preventing him from tackling the gang issue. He says, "I love my fans in the U.K., they’re really suffering by not letting me in to deal with the gang situation.
"I really wanted to be a voice to stop gang members, ’cause they respect me enough to get into a room with me.
"By not permitting me they’re saying they just don’t want me to solve this situation.
"It’s not the fans, it’s just a few people in white wigs and members of parliament. They got a problem because the judicial law is from the 1800s."
