Troubled movie star OWEN WILSON has rejoined Hollywood’s never-ending party after attempting suicide in August (07).
The Wedding Crashers star was spotted drinking heavily at the Viceroy hotel in Santa Monica, California on 5 October (07), and fellow revellers watched as he staggered out of the place.
It was Wilson’s first public outing since he was found distressed after slashing his wrists at his Santa Monica home and taken to hospital two months ago.
He has been living a near-hermit-like existence ever since, surrounded only by concerned family members and close friends, although he did visit the Grand Canyon in Arizona at the end of September (07) for a secret cleansing meeting with Hualapai Indian elders, who live at the base of the famous gorge.
One Viceroy regular, who witnessed Wilson’s party, tells Life & Style magazine the movie star and a friend requested the private library room at the hotel and were joined there by several more people.
The bystander says, "They had bottle service and were drinking vodka. Owen got so drunk, he stumbled when he went to leave. He could hardly walk. It was clear he’d had too much." Meanwhile, hotel guest Jamie Brandt tells the publication, "He looked like he’d already been drinking (when he arrived). He was stumbling when he came in and literally falling down when he left." But Wilson’s representatives deny reports the actor was drunk, insisting he had just one drink.
According to Life & Style, Wilson and three friends returned to the Viceroy a week later, on 12 October (07).
A witness says, "He ordered Patron Silver tequila on the rocks… and was drinking steadily the whole time."

BARBRA STREISAND is recovering at her home in California after a nasty fall in her garden.
The superstar required stitches in her leg after the accident, which took place last week (ends12Oct07).
Her publicists are refusing to go into details about the accident, but confirm Streisand had the stitches removed this week (begs15Oct07) and the injury was not serious.

SIR ANTHONY HOPKINS is taking Merchant Ivory to court in a bid to claim $750,000 (£375,000) he claims the film production company owes him for a new movie.
The actor alleges Merchant Ivory has yet to pay him for starring in City Of Your Final Destination, so has filed court papers to take the firm to an arbitrator.
Hopkins claims the company, who he has made four films with, including the Academy Award-winning Howard’s End, was due to pay him his $750,000 salary by January (07).
Earlier this year (07), Merchant Ivory disputed Hopkins’ version of events.

Actress SCARLETT JOHANSSON has donated "a large sum" to a poverty-stricken school in Sri Lanka after the children there left her overcome with emotion during a recent visit.
The 22-year-old travelled to Sri Lanka and India with aid workers from international charity group Oxfam - and admits the highlight was the time she spent with kids at a Dalit school.
Johansson tells PlanetGossip.eonline.com, "The most gratifying opportunity was visiting a Dalit school. The Dalit community is considered the lowest status in the caste system, and children as young as four are working the fields." The actress’ hand-out will financially support the school for the next three years.
Meanwhile, the Lost In Translation star is currently planning a trip to U.S.
Army bases overseas with the United Service Organisation (USO).
Her publicist says, "It will be in early 2008 and for about a week. I can’t give out more than that for security reasons."

BEN AFFLECK’s wife JENNIFER GARNER is leading the charge against influenza after signing up to front a new flu-shot campaign.
The Daredevil star has become the face of FacesOfInfluenza.org, a new American Lung Association website aimed at advising people on how to avoid the flu.
In the new ad, the Hollywood mum says, "Women play an important role in a family. It’s our job to take care of those we love, that’s why I make sure my family is protected against influenza.
"Look around, and you’ll see someone in your life who should receive an influenza vaccination.
"There’s the couple with young children, like my husband and I, or your parents, who are over 50 years of age, or your friend who will be pregnant during influenza season.
"It’s also likely you know someone living with a serious medical condition, like asthma… heart disease or diabetes. My own father has heart complications." According to the website, approximately 226,000 people in the U.S. are hospitalised each year from influenza.

Singer LANCE BASS has tried to get in touch with BRITNEY SPEARS to lend her moral support during her child custody battle - but the pop superstar hasn’t returned his calls.
Bass was concerned about his old friend and neighbour, who used to date his ‘N Sync bandmate Justin Timberlake, he decided to contact her.
He tells American magazine GQ, "I tried. She’s my neighbour in Beverly Hills.
She lives next door. I tried to get in touch with her - I wanted to be that friend to help her.
"I don’t think she’s having any of her old friends anymore."

LINDSAY LOHAN has sparked rumours her romance with snowboarder RILEY GILES is deadly serious after stepping out with a subtle ring on her wedding finger.

And now it seems Lohan is wearing his ring.
An insider says, "Lindsay and Riley are very serious about each other." Giles, 25, broke off a serious relationship with ex-girlfriend Bree Tierney just before he started dating Lohan in rehab.
He insists the split had nothing to do with his new love: "I broke up with Bree a week before I started dating Lindsay. We had dated for almost two years, but it’s not like we were engaged or anything." That doesn’t sit well with heartbroken Tierney’s mum, Tess - she insists her daughter was engaged to the snowboarding lothario.
She says, "Riley just stopped calling Bree and never told her about Lindsay.
She found out by seeing photos. It destroyed her."

KNOCKED UP director JUDD APATOW has teamed up with WILL FERRELL and writer/filmmaker ADAM McKAY to become a partner in cult comedy website FunnyOrDie.com.
Ferrell and McKay launched the site, where they air short film comedies, in April (07). The site has since attracted over 3.6 million individual viewers.
The pair’s clip The Landlord, in which Ferrell appears to lose his cool with a supposedly drunken infant landlady, desperate for rent money, has been viewed more than 47 million times.
And last month (Sep07), Eva Longoria appeared in a spoof sex tape film, in which she bounces on a bed in sexy lingerie with a male pal she calls Perry, for the website.
Apatow says, "Adam and Will and myself have been friends for many years, and we thought this would be the perfect opportunity to create a situation where the friendship could not survive." The trio are currently working on upcoming movie Step Brothers, which stars Ferrell, and is being directed and produced by McKay and Apatow respectively.

Actor RYAN GOSLING really started to fall in love with the blow-up doll his character romances in quirky new film LARS & THE REAL GIRL - and his real-life girlfriend felt threatened.
The Notebook star admits he bonded with the doll director Craig Gillespie picked up at a San Diego, California factory and found himself looking forward to shooting scenes with ‘her’.
He says, "It’s gonna sound funny to say it but she had a really calming presence. She had a real presence and when she was on set you could feel that she was there. I had a pretty interesting relationship with her because I felt completely isolated with her. I actually formed a bond with her.
"There was something very comforting about her and I began to look forward to our scenes together. I felt very connected to her… I grew close to her.
"I guarantee that if you spent 10 minutes in a room with Bianca you’d love her too.
"I met her at the read through of the script and I didn’t take my eyes off her. We would take walks on the set together. She had a really interesting effect on the crew and on me and everybody that came in contact with her." But when he took the doll, Bianca, home with him one night, girlfriend Rachel McAdams was far from happy with her latex love rival.
He explains, "I took her home with me. Rachel didn’t like it." In the film, Gosling plays a delusional young guy who strikes up an unconventional relationship with a doll he finds on the internet.

STAR WARS creator GEORGE LUCAS has started work on a live-action TV spin-off of the legendary sci-fi franchise.
Lucas is refusing to reveal much about the highly-anticipated show, but he has announced it won’t feature any of the famous Star Wars characters fans have come to love.
He says, "The Skywalkers aren’t in it, and it’s about minor characters. It has nothing to do with Luke Skywalker or Darth Vader or any of those people.
"It’s completely different. But it’s a good idea, and it’s going to be a lot of fun to do." Lucas is also pitching a 90-episode animated Star Wars spin-off TV series, called The Clone Wars.

Pulitzer Prize-winning author NORMAN MAILER is recovering after surgery to remove scar tissue around his lung.
The 84-year-old literary giant was admitted to Mount Sinai Hospital in Manhattan, New York last week (ends12Oct07), and the operation took place earlier this week (beg15Oct07).

KID ROCK has scored his first number one album in the U.S. after taking new release ROCK N ROLL JESUS to the top.
The rocker/rapper’s new album sold 170,000 in its first week on release to topple Bruce Springsteen’s Magic from the number one spot.
Springsteen and country trio Rascal Flatts both slip a place to two and three respectively on the new Billboard countdown, while LeAnn Rimes debuts at four with her new release, Family.
Other top 10 new entries are country star Sara Evans’ Greatest Hits at eight and operatic crooner Josh Groban’s holiday album Noel, which debuts at 10.
Meanwhile, Jennifer Lopez’s music career takes a big hit - he new album Brave fails to make the top 10, debuting at 12 with disappointing first week sales of 53,000.

Canadian heavy metal group THE END have been forced to scrap the remainder of their North American tour following the departure of guitarist ANDREW HERCULES.
Hercules and his former bandmates are refusing to comment further on the split, but it appears all is amicable.
A statement from the group reads: "Andrew Hercules has decided to leave the band. We all wish him the best in his future endeavours.
"Due to this development we will need to immediately cancel the rest of the dates with Between The Buried & Me. We’ll head home after the Seattle show.
"We apologise to anyone that had planned on attending our shows, we appreciate your support, and we will be back as soon as possible."

The girlfriend of ELLIOTT SMITH has been denied a percentage of the late singer/songwriter’s earnings because she acted as an unlicensed talent agent.
The Oscar-nominated star’s live-in lover, Jennifer Chiba, was seeking 15 per cent of Smith’s posthumous earnings, arguing she was entitled to the money because her late lover had promised to support her for the rest of her life.
Chiba initially filed her lawsuit in July 2004 - but both the California labour commissioner and a trial judge have ruled that, because she acted as an unlicensed talent agent under the state’s Talent Agencies Act, her claim on Smith’s estate is void.
On Tuesday (16Oct07), a California appeal court agreed, leaving Chiba with no right to a percentage of Smith’s estate.
However, the court did acknowledge that should she appeal again to the Supreme Court, then Chiba might have more luck citing her "cohabitative agreement" with Smith.
Smith died in October 2003. His death was initially ruled a suicide although the Los Angeles police investigation remains open.

LATEST: French rock star BERTRAND CANTAT has been released from prison after serving half of an eight-year sentence for killing his actress girlfriend.
The Noir Desir singer was convicted of beating Marie Trintignant to death in Lithuania in 2003, but served his sentence in his native France.
Cantat, who was released early for good behaviour, killed Trintignant during an argument over a mobile phone text message she had received from her former husband.
He was collected from a Toulouse prison at midnight on Tuesday (16Oct07) by Noir Desir drummer Denis Barthe, who drove him to his country home.
The 43-year-old’s early release has infuriated feminist campaigners, who argue his case shows a leniency towards men who batter women.
Cantat has already compensated two of Trintignant’s children and the production company making the television movie the actress was filming at the time of her death, using funds generated from a Noir Desir live album and DVD.

Rapper C-MURDER is to be retried on a second-degree murder charge.
Master P’s 36-year-old brother - real name Corey Miller - will be back in court on 11 February (08) after prosecutors and defence attorneys failed to strike a deal during a telephone conference on Monday (15Oct07).
The rapper’s 2003 conviction of the shooting death of teenager Steve Thomas outside a Louisiana nightclub was thrown out last year (06) when prosecutors were found guilty of withholding criminal background information on witnesses.
Miller was released from jail in New Orleans last March (06) and placed on house arrest after posting $500,000 (£250,000) bail.
If found guilty, Miller faces a life sentence without parole.

LINKIN PARK frontman CHESTER BENINGTON is recovering after reportedly breaking his arm during the group’s recent concert in Melbourne, Australia.
Reports suggest the rocker fell from the stage four songs into Linkin Park’s set on Sunday night (14Oct07).
The heroic singer refused to stop the show to seek attention and completed the group’s two-hour set with his arm strapped by his side.
Bandmate Mike Shinoda has confirmed the injury in a post on the group’s website, revealing Benington has no plans to miss upcoming concerts.
