ESTEFAN’S MOTHER UNDERGOES EMERGENCY SURGERY
Singer GLORIA ESTEFAN has been forced to cancel a number of forthcoming promotional appearances after her elderly mother was taken into a Miami, Florida hospital for emergency surgery on Monday (15Oct07).
The Latina star cut short her tour of the U.S. to be with her sick mum, Gloria Fajardo, who was rushed to the hospital late Sunday night (14Oct07) after suffering abdominal pain.
Doctors found that an intestinal rupture had caused a severe infection, and Fajardo immediately underwent surgery. She is currently listed in critical condition.
The 50-year-old singer is currently promoting her first studio album in four years - 90 Millas - when she heard the sad news.
A spokesman for her company Estefan Entertainment says, "Gloria flew on the first flight out of L.A. (Los Angeles) to Miami. Her appearances on (The Tonight Show), Dancing with the Stars and Ellen have been postponed. She thanks her fans for their prayers and support during this difficult time."
