Singer MARIAH CAREY is related to English soccer ace ASHLEY COLE - not the late NAT ‘KING’ COLE as she had previously hoped.
The R&B diva, 37, was tracing her family tree because she was convinced she would have the same ancestors as Nat ‘King’ Cole - but she was shocked to discover she was a relation to sports star Ashley, 26, instead.
Her findings showed that Carey’s grandmother came from the same area of America’s Deep South as Ashley’s ancestors.
She tells British newspaper the Daily Star, "It’s fascinating. My grandmother was a Cole before she married and it turns out she comes from the same area of Alabama as his (Ashley’s) ancestors." But the We Belong Together singer is still determined to find some kind of relation to the jazz legend.
She adds, "We are still looking into it to see if we’re also related to Nat King Cole. I’m such a huge fan of his. That would be wonderful and would explain so much."

UGLY BETTY star ASHLEY JENSEN cannot understand why VICTORIA BECKHAM is constantly criticised by the media - insisting she is just an ordinary girl doing her best as a celebrity.
The Scottish actress, who - like the Beckhams - is currently based in Los Angeles, is saddened at the harsh media coverage the Spice Girl receives both in her native U.K. and the U.S.
She tells Closer magazine, "It’s a shame people want her to fail so badly. I haven’t met her yet, but she seems very down to earth for someone who wears designer clothes and millions of pounds of jewellery.
"Over here, there’s so much pressure to have your hair and make-up perfect.
However, when I do get recognised, I think: ‘Oh my god! What am I wearing?’ Perhaps I should be more like Victoria Beckham and groom myself a wee bit more."

Bollywood actress SHILPA SHETTY has hit out at Indian immigration authorities after she was "hassled" by officials on Tuesday (25Sep07) and temporarily banned from leaving the country.
The 34-year-old was travelling to Germany when she was stopped by immigration at Mumbai airport in relation to the police investigation into her public display of affection with Hollywood actor Richard Gere earlier this year (07).
Shetty and the Pretty Woman hunk found themselves at the centre of a national scandal when Gere swept her into his arms and kissed her several times at a charity event in New Delhi last April (07). The incident resulted in a court order against Shetty demanding she appear before a judge in Rajasthan, India, to face charges of indecent behaviour in the Hindu country.
But while Shetty was cleared of the charges and given permission to travel abroad from her native India, not all airport authorities have taken note of the dismissal, and she is still facing the consequences of Gere’s harmless actions.
Shetty says, "I know that they (immigration personnel) were doing their duty, but there is certain decorum to be maintained, even when one is doing his duty.
"I can understand something like this if I’d committed a criminal offence.
But what was my offence…? I don’t need to be treated like this in my own country! It’s terrible! It’s really shocking." Her spokesman, Dale Bhagwagar, adds: "This is not a sole incident. From the last few months, every time Shilpa travels out of the country, the immigration authorities hassle her. So much so that one could think, they get some kind of sadistic pleasure in doing so."

Hundreds of fans have taken to the streets of Paris to mourn the death of MARCEL MARCEAU at his funeral in France on Wednesday (26Sep07).
The legendary mime artist - who died on Saturday night (22Sep07), aged 84 was buried at the Pere Lachaise cemetery, where his coffin was draped in a French flag.
Marceau’s devotees joined the large crowd of mourners at the site to pay tribute to the star, who was buried at the same site as singer Jim Morrison and celebrated author Oscar Wilde.
Marceau is credited with reviving the art form after the Second World War, inspired by the ancient traditions popular in Europe, Japan and China, as well as silent movie greats Buster Keaton and Charlie Chaplin.

American comedian DREW CAREY has no sympathy for OWEN WILSON following his alleged suicide attempt last month (Aug07) - because he is convinced the Wedding Crashers star could have avoided the ordeal if he had confided in his friends and family.
Carey, 49, admits he has attempted to take his own life on two previous occasions by overdosing on drugs, and believes it is his own experiences with suicide which enable him to relate to 38-year-old Wilson’s troubles.
But he claims the best cure for depression is to talk about it more openly.
He tells Access Hollywood, "It’s going to sound cold, but I wasn’t reading the paper going ‘Oh poor guy.’ I was thinking I hope he (Wilson) is learning what he is supposed to be learning from this whole experience and not wasting the opportunity to learn.
"There is a reason we want attention all the time. Living in Hollywood, you can get disconnected from everybody. You can feel like you are the only one. So you feel it, you hold it in, and you don’t let it go and you don’t try to find help because you think, ‘Oh man if I tell anybody, I’m going to seem like I’m weak. I won’t get a movie deal. I won’t get invited to…’ whatever goes through your head." A depressed Wilson reportedly slashed his wrists in an apparent suicide attempt at his home in Santa Monica, California last month (Aug07).

Scottish rockers THE FRATELLIS almost lost their record deal before they had even been signed - they played their most "shocking" gig just days before getting their contract.
The Chelsea Dagger stars were performing to a crowd of record industry executives and talent spotters in Glasgow when they thought they had blown their chance of fame.
Frontman Jon Fratelli recalls, "We hadn’t played for a while and drummer Mince had broken his back and was still playing in a back brace. It was shocking.
"We were also a bit drunk. The mic stand kept falling down and we had to stop playing twice. Then the guitar strings snapped. We had to find some spare strings and asked the audience if they had any."

Veteran rocker IAN McCULLOCH has slammed British band EDITORS for copying his singing style.
The Echo & The Bunnymen frontman, 49, is not impressed when friends comment on the similarity in his and Editor’s singer Tom Smith’s voices - and insists no one can emulate his vocals.
He says, "It cheeses me off when my mates say he (Smith) sounds like me.
Don’t say he sounds like me when my voice is one of the wonders of the world.

LATEST: Former ATOMIC KITTEN singer KERRY KATONA is still pregnant with her fourth child after doctors wrongly told her she had had a miscarriage.
The British reality TV star, 27, and her husband Mark Croft were reported to be "sad and tearful" after learning she had lost her baby following a rush to hospital on Tuesday morning (25Sep07).
But on Wednesday (26Sep07), her publicist Max Clifford claimed Katona was simply misdiagnosed with a phantom miscarriage after suffering some abnormal bleeding.
He tells British publication Heat World, "After further examination it has been revealed that Kerry Katona is still pregnant. Kerry went back into hospital for a medical procedure last night.
"However, a blood test revealed surprising results - her pregnancy hormones had gone up, not down. Kerry was taken for a second scan and was shown her baby’s heart beat. It has transpired that Kerry is only five weeks pregnant, not seven to eight weeks, which is why the scan was not clear and coupled with bleeding led to her being diagnosed with having had a miscarriage. She is still at risk of complications - however she and Mark are ecstatic that she is still pregnant with their baby." Katona and Croft are already parents to Heidi, seven months, and the former pop star has two daughters - six-year-old Molly and four-year-old Lilly-Sue with ex-husband Brian McFadden.

THE ROLLING STONES’ A Bigger Band Tour has earned the rockers the title as the world’s most successful music tour in the latest edition of the Guinness World Records.
The group’s worldwide tour - which took place between August 2005 and August 2007 - raised profits of $437 million (£218.5 million), edging out Madonna’s Confessions dates to give them a new record.
But the Material Girl has been named the most successful female artist - her 60-date Confessions tour in 2006 grossed almost $200 million (£100 million), earning the star more than $3 million (£1.5 million) per concert.
The Rolling Stones’ latest honour comes shortly after they were named the top earning music act of 2007 in Forbes magazine’s annual rich list. The veteran rockers made an estimated $88 million (£44 million) in 2007, narrowly beating hip-hop superstar Jay-Z to the number one spot.

KELLY CLARKSON has found her own AMERICAN IDOL - country music matriarch REBA McENTIRE.
Clarkson, 25, has declared 52-year-old McEntire her musical mother, hailing her as a "light at the end of the tunnel" and all-round inspiration.

LATEST: SIR ELTON JOHN has defended himself against accusations of child pornography relating to a photograph he donated to an art exhibition, insisting the image has already featured in galleries across the globe.
The photo, taken by famed photographer Nan Goldin, features two young girls posing provocatively - and is one of 4,000 pictures used in the Sir Elton John Photographic Collection at The Baltic Centre For Contemporary Art in Gateshead, England.
The explicit shot had to be withdrawn from the exhibition before it began on Wednesday (26Sep07) after British police launched an investigation into the photo to see if the gallery had breached the law for using the image.
A spokesman for Northumbria Police confirms: "We attended the Baltic last Thursday at the invitation of management who were seeking advice about an item from an exhibition prior to it going on public display.
"This item is being assessed and Northumbria Police are in consultation with (prosecutors) investigating the circumstances surrounding it." But in a statement posted on the Rocket Man star’s website, John’s spokesperson hits out at the investigation, saying: "The photograph exists as part of the installation as a whole and has been widely published and exhibited throughout the world… in Houston, London, Madrid, New York, Portugal, Warsaw and Zurich without any objections of which we are aware." A representative for The Baltic Centre said they were working closely with authorities to look into the matter.

Hardman actor RAY WINSTONE won’t star in THE SWEENEY remake because he’s too busy.
Director Nick Love, who has made British crime films The Business and Outlaw, is helming the big screen remake of the classic TV show and admitted he wanted Winstone for the part of Jack Regan - a role originally made famous by John Thaw.
However, Love’s regular actor Danny Dyer concedes Winstone won’t appear in the movie as his filming schedule is already full.
Dyer tells WENN, "He’s too busy with stuff like Indiana Jones. He’s got a house in Los Angeles.
"I think Nick is going for Paul Bettany now." The Sweeney ran from 1975 to 1978.
