SUTHERLAND WILL STILL BE HONOURED BY ACTORS’ UNION
Canada’s union for actors will still honour KIEFER SUTHERLAND with an Award Of Excellence on Wednesday (26Sep07), despite his arrest on suspicion of driving under the influence in the early hours of Tuesday (25Sep07) morning.
Sutherland was pulled over by police in Los Angeles after making an illegal U-turn. Cops conducted a breath test and found the actor allegedly had twice the legal limit of alcohol in his system.
However, bosses at the Alliance Of Canadian Cinema, Television And Radio Artists (ACTRA) have vowed to go ahead with honouring Sutherland - although press are now barred from event, reports TMZ.com.
It is unknown whether Sutherland will attend the ceremony at the home of the Canadian consul in Los Angeles.
ACTRA president Richard Hardacre said in a press statement issued before Sutherland’s arrest: "We are proud to present this award to Kiefer who, as a Canadian actor working in the U.S., has overcome great odds to build one of the most successful careers in Hollywood." Sutherland has previously been arrested for DUI in California in 2004.
He will appear before a California court on 16 October (07) to answer charges and, if convicted, faces a mandatory five-day jail sentence.
