Veteran rockers THE ROLLING STONES have been named the top earning music act of 2007.
The band made $88 million (£44 million) between June 2006 and June this year (07), largely from their Bigger Bang tour which grossed $437million (£218.5 million).
Rapper Jay-Z came second on the list by U.S magazine Forbes, with a total income of $83 million (£41.5 million).
Pop superstar Madonna ranked third with total earnings of $72 million (£36 million).

Rap star M.I.A. has accused chart rival FERGIE of profiting from copying her unique style.
The hip-hop star - who is signed to the same record label as Fergie - is angry with Interscope executive Jimmy Lovine for mimicking her style to further the Black Eyed Peas star’s career.
She says, "When I heard (track) London Bridge, I told (Lovine), ‘If I don’t sell records and make money for you you’re just going to make them with her anyway.’" But Lovine denies he is giving Fergie preferential treatment, adding, "She’s just an artist who inspires other artists."

LATEST: Singer DARREN HAYES has been handed a police caution after he was arrested for racially attacking a waiter at a Thai restaurant in London.
The former Savage Garden star handed himself into a police station after a complaint was made by a staff member at the Busaba Eathai in Soho in July (07).
Hayes admitted a row took place but denied any racial element. Police said the 35-year-old had been cautioned under section five of the Public Order Act, which deals with disorderly behaviour.

The manager of Chicago rapper TWISTA has hit out at U.S. police - blaming a recent raid on the star’s tour bus on "racial and rapper profiling". Manager Rawle Stewart believes the rapper was unfairly targeted by Michigan State Police after his tour bus was seized by ten officers en route to Detroit on Wednesday (19Sep07). The officers were acting on suspicion of handling narcotics and held traffic on the interstate for nearly two hours - only to find no drugs.
Stewart says, "What started out as a two car stop turned out to be six or seven Michigan State Police officers searching the bus. "I think it was a case of profiling because they immediately assumed we had drugs and told us they found residue, but was letting us off with a warning. "It was so petty. When it was all said and done, we didn’t even get a ticket.
They gave us a lecture like, ‘In Michigan we don’t tolerate that and if you come through our state again, you will get locked up.’ There’s people on the interstate passing by like, Is that Twista? They said to us ‘This may help your career or it may hurt your career, but we don’t tolerate that in Michigan.’" According to U.S reports, police stopped the bus because it was registered to Entertainment Coach of America, a Florida Based company, notorious for trafficking narcotics across the state. Michigan State Police have neither confirmed nor denied the incident.

The 19-year-old princess - whose mother, Sarah Ferguson, the Duchess of York, is working as an executive producer on ‘The Young Victoria’ - will have a small non-speaking role in the movie.
Britain’s Daily Mail newspaper reports Beatrice will appear in scenes showing Victoria’s 1838 coronation, due to be filmed early next month.
The movie -written by Oscar-winner, Julian Fellowes - sees British star Emily Blunt portray a young Victoria as she falls in love with Albert and ascends to the throne.
The part of Albert will be played by Rupert Friend - who is currently dating Hollywood star Keira Knightley.
Sarah, who is the ex-wife of Prince Andrew, reportedly used her royal contacts to secure permission for the movie to shoot at royal venues including Blenheim Palace in Oxfordshire, Arundel Castle in Sussex and Belvoir castle in Leicestershire.
Director Jean-Marc Vallee is also known to be eager to shoot key scenes at London’s Kensington Palace and Berkshire’s Windsor Castle.
The film is scheduled for release in 2009.

Fashion designer Calvin Klein bought the jewels for ex-wife Kelly Klein in 1987, a year after Wallis Simpson - the American wife of Britain’s Prince Edward - died.
Calvin paid just $200,000 for the jewels - including a single-strand natural pearl and diamond necklace, a massive pearl pendant and a famous pair of Noir et Blanc pearl earrings - which Edward purchased for his beloved wife.
Photographer Kelly has decided to keep the duchess’ diamond eternity band with the word ‘Eternity’ inscribed inside.
A source told the New York Post: ‘Calvin bought it all for Kelly before the launch of the Calvin Klein Eternity perfume, which was the biggest fragrance launch ever.’ The sale is expected to take place at New York auction house Sotheby’s within the next view weeks.
A representative for the Kleins declined comment.
Prince Edward famously abdicated from the British throne in order to marry divorcee Wallis Simpson in 1937.

The country’s finance minister, Anders Borg, announced the family will receive an extra 10.6 million kronor (£800,000) a year.
Borg says the extra money is being granted to cover improved security at Stockholm’s Royal Palace and the expected increase in the cost of Crown Princess Victoria’s official duties.
The rise means the royals will receive 110 million kronor (£8.3 million) next year.
The annual sum is intended to cover the costs of the king’s official duties as head of state and to pay for the upkeep of the royal family. It also covers running costs for the royal palaces, although maintenance of the fabric of the buildings is covered by other government grants.
Marshal of the Realm, Ingemar Eliasson - the operational head of the royal household - said: ‘The budget increase is very welcome after several years of severely curtailed grants.’ However, Gudren Schyman, a leading member of the Swedish Republican Association, said the royals should not get any money from the government.
She said: ‘The royal family no longer has a role to play. It does not belong in a modern democracy and it should therefore be natural for them to sort out their own finances.’

Sarah, 47, and Beatrice, 19, walked hand in hand down the runway, wearing almost £8 million worth of Garrard diamonds, in the British Fashion Council’s tent in the grounds of London’s Natural History Museum.
Beatrice revealed the prospect of appearing in front of her boyfriend David Clark and the celebrities in the audience, including Kate Moss, Elle Macpherson, and Claudia Schiffer, was less daunting because her mother was by her side.
The princess said: ‘I’ve never done anything like this before. My boyfriend is going to be watching, but I’m walking down there with my mother which makes me feel a lot better. And it’s all for charity.’ After the event, the princess hit renowned nightclub Ciprani with her mum, before the pair moved onto hotspot Mahiki.
The Rotary Flood Disaster Appeal is raising funds to help the areas severely hit by the heavy rain in June, including Yorkshire, Lincolnshire and the Midlands.

The princess, the daughter of the late King Hussein, has become a Messenger of Peace and will be honoured at the International Day of Peace ceremony today (21.09.07).
She will be joined by fellow new peace envoys musician Daniel Barenboim, author Paulo Coelho and violinist Midori.
UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon praised the humanitarian work of the princess - who is married to the ruler of Dubai, Sheik Mohammed bin Rashid al Maktoum - which has included promoting health, education and sports programmes for Arab and Muslim youths.
Haya was also the first Arab woman to compete in equestrian events at the Olympics and is currently president of the International Equestrian Federation and a member of the International Olympic Committee.
Other Messengers of Peace include Nobel Peace Prize winner Elie Wiesel, actor Michael Douglas, primate expert Jane Goodall and cellist Yo-Yo Ma.
Italian opera singer Luciano Pavarotti was also a Messenger of Peace for nearly a decade before his death on September 6.

The actress was seen wearing a large prosthetic baby bump on the New York film set yesterday (20.09.07) as she filmed dramatic scenes with Chris Noth’s character Mr. Big.
Onlookers watched as Charlotte - who struggled to conceive a baby during the hit TV series - stormed out of Italian restaurant Lumi on Lexington Avenue apparently heavily pregnant.
She was then followed onto the street by Big - the on/off love interest of Charlotte’s close friend Carrie - and overheard screaming: "I don’t want to see you. I curse the day you were born." Charlotte then appeared to go into labour before being rushed to hospital in Big’s chauffeured limousine.
The plot leaks have led to fevered speculation among fans, who were left delighted at the end of the sixth and final series of the show when Big swept Sarah Jessica Parker’s character Carrie off her feet.
Charlotte ended the show by marrying her Jewish fiancé Harry Goldenblatt and planning to adopt a baby girl from China. On the first day of filming on Wednesday (19.09.07), fans were pleased to see Carrie and Big’s romance apparently flourishing.
Filming in New York is expected to move to 55th street and Park Avenue today (21.09.07).

The jury no longer have to believe the music producer was holding the gun when it fired in Lana Clarkson’s mouth, killing her, to find him guilty.
Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Larry Paul Fidler told the panel of 12 - who announced they had reached a deadlock with the vote split 7-5 on Tuesday (18.09.07) - to disregard ’special instruction number three’ when considering if Spector, 67, shot dead the 40-year-old actress in February, 2003.
The jury reported the instruction - which stated that for a guilty verdict to be reached the panel had to believe beyond all reasonable doubt Spector was holding a gun to Clarkson’s mouth when it discharged - had caused confusion in their seven days of deliberation.
Fidler said on Wednesday (19.09.07) he would withdraw the instruction as it ‘misstates the law’ in its description of what jurors needed to conclude to convict Spector of second-degree murder.
Instead, he issued a new instruction on the definition of murder in the case, and offered various scenarios for the jury to consider.
He said: ‘To prove that the defendant is guilty of this crime (murder), you must prove that, (1) the defendant committed an act with the firearm that caused the death of Lana Clarkson, such as placing the gun in her mouth or forcing her to place the gun in her mouth at which time it discharged, pointing the gun at or against her head at which time it entered her mouth and discharged, pointing the gun at her to prevent her from leaving the house causing a struggle which resulted in the gun entering her mouth and discharging.’ Fidler had considered allowing the jurors to deliberate on the lesser charge of involuntary manslaughter.
However, he decided against this move, saying it might be perceived as telling them what to do.
Spector is charged with killing Clarkson in his Los Angeles mansion on February 3, 2003, after meeting her at a nightclub where she worked as a hostess.

The rapper, who pleaded guilty to one charge of possession of a dangerous weapon, also received three years probation and was ordered to donate $10,000 to charity as part of the plea bargain.
His lawyer, Donald Etra, said the felony conviction would be reduced to a misdemeanour after one year if Snoop does not violate the law.
Etra said: ‘We are very pleased with the outcome. Snoop’s goal is to make music, not make court appearances.’ The hip-hop star was arrested last September after a collapsible baton was found in his luggage at Orange County’s John Wayne Airport.
It was classed as a dangerous weapon by the authorities, while Snoop claimed it was a prop for a video he was filming in New York and he did not realise it was a weapon.

The ‘Scary Movie 3′ star – whose five-year-old son Evan was diagnosed with autism two years ago – is delighted with how much the actor has helped her son.
Jenny, 34, told People magazine: ‘Beyond doubt it was written in the stars that Jim and Evan were a pair.
‘He’s actually helped Evan get past some obstacles I couldn’t. I sometimes call him the autism whisperer. He speaks a language Evan understands, and Evan feels safe with him.’ Jenny admits she was reluctant to introduce Jim, 45, to her son at first.
She said: ‘He was intrigued. He asked questions. Still, it took me a few months to bring Evan over.’ The blonde actress, who was previously married to film director John Asher before they divorced in 2005, went on to reveal that she and twice-divorced Jim have no plans to marry, despite being so happy together.

A German man stunned staff at his local butchers by hiding two sex toys in their sausages.
The unnamed had bought two bits of meat from the shop in Mannheimearlier, and later returned to ask a shop assistant to keep his large ‘Schwartenmagen’ sausages safe until he departed for Dubai the next day.
However, the assistant noticed the goods had got heavier and called the police.
Officers found the man, who was about 50, had removed some of the meat and packed the vibrators inside.
A police spokesman said: ‘It was two latex dildos with a natural look. He could have used a loaf of bread. It’s not against the law here. But obviously I can’t speculate on what customs in Dubai will have to say about it."

A German pensioner turned down his £2 million lottery win because he didn’t know what to do with the money.
After he scooped the jackpot the 70-year-old man from Hamlen visited the German lottery HQ to tell organisers he didn’t want it.
He said: "What would I do with so much money? My wife has already passed away, my parents are dead, I have no children and no other relatives. I don’t want it." The widower explained he had only bought the lottery ticket out of a habit because his wife had been a passionate player.
Lottery officials are trying to persuade him to keep the cash.

A Bosnian couple are getting divorced after discovering they have been seducing each other online under fake identities.
Sana, 27, and Adnan Klaric, 32, began chatting on the internet - under the pseudonyms Sweetie and Prince of Joy - both pouring out their marriage troubles and declaring themselves soulmates.
But when they finally met up they had a nasty surprise.
They have now both filed for divorce - accusing each other of being unfaithful.
Sana said: "When I saw my husband there and it dawned on me what had happened I was shattered. I felt so betrayed." Adnan said: " I still find it hard to believe the person who wrote such wonderful things, is actually the same woman I married and who has not said a nice word to me for years."

Patients at a Romanian psychiatric hospital were terrified when three bears broke into the building in search of food.
A mother and two cubs smashed a window and pushed open a door to gain entry where they found some food in a metal canister, which they dragged outside.
Hospital staff called in hunter to the facility, which is in a forest near the mountain resort of Predeal, 75 miles north of Bucharest.
Hunter Aurel Iordache said: "We shot her with a tranquiliser." The mother bear was seen waddling away into the woods - still woozy from the tranquiliser - with the food canister stuck on her head.
