The actress - who runs the Chateau La Rue in Fallbrook, California with McDermott - overcame a privileged upbringing by doing chores around the hotel.
McDermott tells U.S TV host Ellen DeGeneres, "I was kind of surprised that she said she never knew how to make her bed till I went to the Manor. I was like okay I get it. You have people to do all that."

Supermodel NAOMI CAMPBELL is stunned by her fiery reputation, insisting she has "grown up".
The catwalk star has landed in court on a number of occasions, accused of assaulting staff members - and earlier this year she was sentenced to community service after pleading guilty to a charge of reckless assault against her maid Ana Scolavino.
But Campbell is still shocked by her reputation for her temper.

LATEST: The auctioneer involved in the O.J. SIMPSON alleged armed robbery has been granted immunity by Las Vegas police, after handing over his audiotape of the incident.
Thomas Riccio’s lawyer had been negotiating the deal with police, to ensure he wasn’t prosecuted for his involvement in the incident on Sunday (16Sep07) and for making an illegal recording.
Speaking on Larry King’s talk show on Tuesday (19Sep07), Riccio revealed he had handed over the tape and sold a copy to a news website.
He said, "I was (given immunity)." Simpson, meanwhile, has been freed on $125,000 (£62,500) after spending three days in a Nevada jail for his part in the alleged sports memorabilia armed robbery on collector Alfred Beardsley at the Palace Station Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas last week (13Sep07).

Veteran actress ZSA ZSA GABOR’s operation to relieve a leg infection was "a success", according to her husband FREDERIC VON ANHALT.
The 90-year-old underwent surgery at the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles on Tuesday (18Sep07).
Von Anhalt says, "The operation was successful, she’s in recovery and in a couple of days she’ll be OK." Gabor, who was partially paralysed after a 2002 car crash, has been relying on the use of a wheelchair and walking aid in recent years to get around - and her current illness is a direct result of her immobility.

British punk band CAPDOWN have split after ten years of making music.
But the rockers have vowed to complete their U.K. tour in October and release new single No Matter What before they part ways.

SCISSOR SISTERS star ANA MATRONIC is fuming after a gang that carried out a homophobic attack on two of her friends escaped jail.
The star’s pals Nina Meffen and Carol Cashmore were assaulted by two teenage girls and a man in Southampton, England last year (06). Meffen was so badly hurt she needed reconstructive surgery.
All three attackers escaped prison sentences, and Matronic is disgusted.
She says, "I am really horrified and disgusted that, in particular, the one person who instigated this attack did not get sent to jail.
"She seems like a true menace and someone who is quite capable of doing this type of thing again."

Rocker TOM DeLONGE is launching a new website he claims will revolutionise rock&roll.
The Angels And Airwaves frontman’s site promises to help bands market their music.
The project is still top secret, but DeLonge is convinced he can cut out record labels and hand money directly to the musicians.
He explains, "We’ve been working on building a piece of technology for the past year, that is going to allow bands to do business in a way that they have never been able to do before. Our website will have elements that no one has ever seen. You’ll be able to buy the record, see the people in real time and watch movies too. It’s totally crazy.
"We just believe that music needs help, and we believe that we have a way to help it. We are trying to set a trend with how bands can communicate their music and make more money than they have even made in their careers. And if this works, then rock&roll will be doing very well in the next couple of years."

British rocker DAVID BOWIE has pledged his support to a group of six teenagers facing murder charges in Louisiana by donating $10,000 (£5,000).
Bowie’s donation will help lawyers defend the black teenagers who have been charged over an attack on a white schoolmate in Jena.
He says, "There is clearly a separate and unequal judicial process going on in the town of Jena. "A donation to the Jena Six Legal Defense Fund is my small gesture indicating my belief that a wrongful charge and sentence should be prevented." Four members of the group face aggravated second-degree battery and conspiracy charges resulting from an attack on the student in Jena, Louisiana. Two of the teenagers have been charged with attempted murder.

Rockers DROWNING POOL are calling on the U.S government to improve services for troops suffering from mental health disorders.

The rockers were partying at Mahiki nightclub when a fight broke out.
Tourette, who was injured with a bottle during the incident, remains in police custody in West London. Brunette, who has reportedly been charged with verbally abusing the police officers, was released on police bail.

O.J. SIMPSON has been freed on $125,000 (GBP625,000) after spending three days in a Nevada jail.
The sports star-turned-actor was arrested on Sunday (16Sep07) for his part in an alleged sports memorabilia armed robbery at the Palace Station Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas last week (13Sep07).
As part of his bail agreement, announced in a Nevada court minutes ago, Simpson will surrender his passport to his attorney, Yale Galanter, within 24 hours and he won’t be able to make contact with the victims of the alleged robbery, co-defendants or any witnesses who may testify against him in an upcoming trial.
A criminal complaint has been filed against the Naked Gun star, featuring 10 felony charges and one misdemeanour, all relating to the incident at the Palace Station last week. The charges against Simpson include kidnapping, robbery, burglary and assault with a deadly weapon.
The actor’s mother, daughter Arnell and girlfriend Christy Prody were in court for this morning’s (19Sep07) arraignment. Simpson wore prison garb for the duration of his brief court hearing. Judge Joe Bonaventure stressed Simpson, who lives in Florida, is free to travel around the U.S. but he must have no contact with anyone else involved in the case, stating, "By no contact, I mean no direct contact, no indirect contact whatsoever. If you see them, you are to avoid contact… Don’t use email, telephone, mail, passenger pigeon." Simpson will return to court in Nevada on 17 October (07) for a further arraignment hearing. Oscar-winner RUSSELL CROWE is set to appear in the remake of 1930s classic THE THREE STOOGES.
Filmmakers Peter and Bobby Farrelly are bringing Curly, Moe and Larry back to the big screen - and are hoping to cast the Gladiator star in the role of Moe.
