CANCER CLAIMS ACTRESS SOMERS
Beloved U.S. actress BRETT SOMERS has lost her battle with stomach and colon cancer at her home in Westport, Connecticut. She was 83.
Somers made regular appearances on The Odd Couple alongside her husband Jack Klugman, but is perhaps best known as a panellist on hit U.S. game show the Match Game in the 1970s.
She fought cancer for many years, refusing to let the disease halt her successful one-woman cabaret show, An Evening with Brett Somers, which she first took on the road in 2003.
Born Audrey Johnston in New Brunswick, Canada, the actress ran away from home as a teenager, desperate to become a star on Broadway. She changed her first name to Brett and adopted her mother’s maiden name Somers.
Her son Adam Klugman says, "She died very much at peace."
