PEYTON PLACE STAR DEAD AT 89

Former PEYTON PLACE star PERCY RODRIGUES died of kidney failure at his home in California on 6 September (07). He was 89.
The African-American actor broke through racial barriers when he portrayed a neurosurgeon on the longrunning 1960s TV series.
He was also well known for lending his booming voice to the trailer for shark movie JAWS and Rodrigues appeared on Star Trek, as a commodore.
The actor was among the cast of epic 1979 miniseries Roots: The Next Generation and had a recurring role on sitcom Benson in the early 1980s.
At the movies, Rodrigues was seen in The Heart Is A Lonely Hunter (1968) and Come Back Charleston Blue (1972).
Born in Montreal, Canada, he also made a name for himself on Broadway, starring in a number of top plays, including Toys in The Attic and Blues For Mister Charlie.
He retired from acting in the late 1980s to concentrate on voice-over work.
