Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, visited her old school yesterday (13.09.07) and confessed to pupils she used to skip classes.
Camilla, who is married to Britain’s Prince Charles, returned to London’s Queen’s Gate School in Kensington - where she attended between 1959 and 1963 - to open a new juniors building.
Camilla, who used to be board at the school, told a teacher and some pupils: ‘I used to go back home for the weekends. Sometimes I used to not go back on Sunday night and miss the Monday.’ The duchess also revealed she was always made to play the part of the man in her dancing lessons.
After listening to a piano recital, Camilla said: ‘It’s very funny to come here because this is where I used to have dance class. I was always the man.’ When she unveiled a plague for the new building, Camilla said: ‘I want to thank you very much for asking me here. It’s been 45 years since I last put my foot in this school. I think you’ve done a wonderful job here.’ Earlier in the day, Camilla received an honorary fellowship from London’s King’s College for her work raising the awareness of the brittle bone disease osteoporosis.
Camilla - whose mother and grandmother both died from the disease - wore the college’s red and navy gown to receive her award.
