CARRERAS, ELTON, BONO AND STING ADD TO PAVAROTTI TRIBUTES

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 8:39 pm

LATEST: JOSE CARRERAS, SIR ELTON JOHN, STING and BONO have paid tribute to Italian opera legend LUCIANO PAVAROTTI, who died on Thursday (06Sep07) at the age of 71.
The Nessun Dorma tenor passed away at his home in Modena, Italy, after battling pancreatic cancer since last year (06).
Spanish opera star Carreras, who performed with Pavarotti and Placido Domingo at the Three Tenors concerts, laments, "It’s a great loss, not just of one of the best voices ever, but of a close friend. We always had a good relationship.
I am happy to have known him. He was without doubt one of the most important tenors of all time. He was a wonderful man, a charismatic person. And a good poker player." John says, "It is a sad day for music and a sad day for the world." U2 frontman Bono adds, "Some can sing opera, Luciano Pavarotti was an opera.
He lived the songs, his opera was a great mash of joy and sadness; surreal and earthy at the same time; a great volcano of a man who sang fire but spilled over with a love of life in all its complexity, a great and generous friend.
"Great, great fun, ‘The Pavlova’ we used to call him. I spoke to him last week - the voice that was louder than any rock band was a whisper." Sting says, "We lost a great friend, a great voice and the world is a smaller place without the big man." Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli explains, "The pain in my heart is only alleviated by the thought that his art will remain with us." Ingrid Newkirk, president of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), praised Pavarotti for his charitable work on behalf of animals, saying, "It was with great sadness that we learned of the death of PETA booster Luciano Pavarotti this morning.
"In addition to his legendary voice and his pioneering work bringing an appreciation for opera and classical music to millions of new people around the world, Pavarotti was known for his kindness, his compassion, and his philanthropic work, raising his voice on behalf of animals on many occasions throughout his life."

Earlier this week (ends07Sep07), Madonna’s spokesperson Liz Rosenberg said, "All appropriate legal requirements are being followed, including a home visit.
Madonna and her entire family look forward to being granted the final adoption early next year."

DALTREY PREDICTS DOHERTY DEATH

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 6:18 pm

THE WHO legend ROGER DALTREY is convinced troubled British rocker PETE DOHERTY will die young.
Daltrey has lost two of his bandmates to drink and drug problems - drummer Keith Moon died in 1978 of an overdose on Clomethiazole, which he had been taking in a bid to wean himself off alcohol, while bassist John Entwistle died of a heart attack induced by cocaine in 2002.
Babyshambles frontman Doherty checked into rehab last month (Aug07) in a bid to kick his drug addiction, after several unsuccessful attempts over the last few years.
Despite Doherty’s rehab stay, Daltrey remains pessimistic about his chances of overcoming his drug demons.
He says, "There’s a bathroom floor waiting for him. He seems to have a death wish and that is so incredibly dull - to think that that’s a cool and exciting thing.
"I knew them all - Jim Morrison, Jimi Hendrix, Brian Jones, Janis Joplin, too many to list - and it’s incredible to think they’ve all gone.
"I don’t think it’s any different today - it’s a person’s own personal journey. It’s down to the individual and always has been."
