British rocker PETE DOHERTY has avoided a spell in jail - he’s voluntarily checked himself into rehab once more in an attempt to beat his drug demons.
The Babyshambles frontman was due to appear at West London magistrates court on Tuesday (04Sep07) for sentencing in relation to his recent drug possession charges, but has succeeded in postponing the date until next month (Oct07), while he undergoes treatment at a residential rehabilitation centre.
His lawyer Sean Curran confirmed earlier reports the singer had checked into rehab in August (07) and says Doherty is "trying his best" to kick his drug habit.
He adds, "I think he’s quite serious. He’s asked to go in and he’s still there so he’s trying." Doherty is now due back in court on 2 October (07).
