ABORTION DRAMA HONOURED

Abortion drama 4 MONTHS, 3 WEEKS, 2 DAYS has been handed the International Federation of Film Critics’ top prize for 2007.
Director Cristian Mungiu’s harrowing drama, which claimed the Palme d’Or honour at the Cannes Film Festival in France, beat out The Queen, Letters From Iwo Jima, Still Life and Apichatpong Weerasethakul’s Syndromes and a Century to claim the accolade.
Mungiu has also been named as the recipient of the 2007 Fipresci Grand Prix award, which will be presented to the Romanian filmmaker at the opening gala ceremony of the San Sebastian Festival later this month (20Sep07).
