McKELLEN MEETS WITH HILLARY
SIR IAN McKELLEN dined with mountaineering legend SIR EDMUND HILLARY during his recent theatre tour of New Zealand.
Hillary, 88, and Sherpa mountaineer Tenzing Norgay became the first climbers to reach the summit of Mount Everest in 1953.
McKellen recently toured New Zealand in a Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC) production of King Lear and The Seagull, and took time out to meet Hillary.
RSC spokesperson Sally Woodfield says, "In the time he had off here he had particular people he wanted to catch up with. He had lunch with Sir Edmund Hillary the other day. He had a busy schedule here."
