The native New Yorker has bought the property which is situated on an acre of land in the Outpost Estates area of Los Angeles from her director-producer friend Harold Becker.
The seven-bedroom Spanish-style home is 4,300 sq ft and Scarlett’s new neighbours include Brad Pitt and his partner Angelina Jolie, Sharon Stone, Meg Ryan and Denzel Washington.
Meanwhile, Scarlett, who is an Oxfam ambassador, has spent two weeks in India and Sri Lanka working with the relief charity to increase awareness about global poverty and suffering.
Speaking about leaving her glitzy lifestyle behind, Scarlett, 22, said: ‘It was nice to feel part of the community. Certainly your own vanity is the last thing on your mind when you’re travelling in a place like this.’ The blonde star - whose next movie ‘The Nanny Diaries’ is released in the US this month - feels privileged to use her status for good causes.
She said: ‘It’s amazing to come home when you see people living in poverty. On one hand you’re thinking, my celebrity life is so surreal, but it’s my work and helps me bring awareness to Oxfam.’

The singer-and-actress injured her conk while shooting new film ‘Major Movie Star’, in which she plays a Hollywood star who joins the army, and has revealed the swelling still hasn’t gone down.
She told In Touch Weekly magazine: "It’s still all bruised and swollen. The magic of make-up is doing wonders. Hopefully, when the swelling goes down, my nose will go back to normal." However, a representative for Jessica – who hurt her nose after accidentally hitting herself in the face with a gun – insists it is only badly bruised, not broken.
The rep’ said: "Her nose is not broken, she did not have to have it reset.
"She bruised it badly on the set of ‘Major Movie Star’ about two weeks ago. She was in a combat scene and accidentally hit herself with a big gun on her nose. But she was able to continue shooting the movie." To prepare for the role, Jessica, 27, actually endured real gruelling boot camp training with the US army, and despite her nasal mishap is still doing many of her own stunts.
The movie also stars ‘Police Academy’ actor Steve Guttenberg and is scheduled to be released mid-2008.

The musicians have teamed-up with fellow solo artist Fiona Apple to launch the GirlFrenzy festival, which will take place at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre in Irvine, California, on October 27.
The concert will last all day and feature chart-topping female acts as well as emerging talent.
Rising stars Sara Bareilles, Antigone Rising and Colbie Caillat, who has built up a dedicated following on social networking website MySpace, are all expected to perform.
The concert comes as 45-year-old Crow returns to music after taking a short break following the adoption of her four-month-old son Wyatt Steven in May.
She will prepare for the event with two performances in Atlantic City the week before.
Lavigne, 22, will appear at the all-girl extravaganza off the back of three concerts in Mexico in October.

The Canadian singer, Gym Class Heroes and rapper Common have joined the impressive line-up for the Las Vegas ceremony on September 9.
Other artists already announced to perform at the Palms Hotel and Casino include Timbaland, Kanye West, Fall Out Boy, Chris Brown, Amy Winehouse, the Foo Fighters and Rihanna.
Lil’ Wayne, T-Pain, Cee-Lo and Daniel Merriweather have also been added to the line-up.
Superstar producer, Timbaland, is the ‘official maestro’ of the ceremony, and will be responsible for creating several ’show-stopping and unexpected artist collaborations’, MTV revealed on Monday (20.08.07).
Britney Spears is also said to be working on a surprise performance with magician Criss Angel for the 24th annual VMAs.
‘Promiscuous’ singer Furtado has been nominated for Female Artist of the Year, along with Fergie, Amy Winehouse, Beyoncé Knowles and Rihanna. Gym Class Heroes are up for Best Group and Best New Artist.

David Leveaux will direct the revival of Edward Rostand’s classic romance, which was translated and adapted by Anthony Burgess.
Garner - who has a 20-month-old daughter, Violet, with husband Ben Affleck - has already begun rehearsing, ahead of previews from October 12.
The play will run until December 23.
‘The Devil Wears Prada’ actor Daniel Sunjata will play Christian, the handsome soldier who is also in love with Roxanne.
Kline, a two-time Tony winner, starred in a production of ‘King Lear’ last season at the Public Theatre but this will be Garner’s first leading role on Broadway.
‘Cyrano de Bergerac’ was last seen on Broadway in 1984 in a Royal Shakespeare Company production starring Derek Jacobi and Sinead Cusack.
Jose Ferrer starred in a popular revival of the play in 1946 and received an Oscar in 1950 for his performance in a film version.
Steve Martin starred as Bergerac in the 1987 movie adaptation of the play, called ‘Roxanne’.

Rumer told US TV show ‘Access Hollywood’: ‘I see a lot of situations that seem to me to be lacking self-respect and a self-value where girls get drunk and they just kind of fall over each other. ‘Unfortunately, when you know you’re growing up and you are in this business, you don’t really have the same ability to make mistakes and have it not be really detrimental.
‘Honestly, it’s been kind of making mistakes and figuring them out and having a lot of really great people as my mentors.’ Rumer, who has landed roles in ‘House Bunny’ and ‘From Within’, says growing up in the media spotlight quickly made her realise the pitfalls of fame.

The troubled Babyshambles rocker was detained in Tower Hamlets, east London, in the early hours of Monday (20.08.07).
A Scotland Yard spokesman confirmed: "At 2.30am on Monday morning officers in Tower Hamlets arrested a 28-year-old man on suspicion of possessing drugs.’ Pete and two others, an unnamed man and woman, were held at an east London police station after officers stopped the car they were travelling in.
The 28-year-old musician, who performed with his band at the V-Festival in Stafford late on Sunday (19.08.07), was ordered to quit drugs or face a prison sentence less than two weeks ago.
Pete, who pleaded guilty to possession of crack cocaine, heroin, cannabis and ketamine as well as two driving offences in July, was given four weeks to get himself drug-free on August 6.
District Judge Davinder Lachlar said at the time: ‘I will adjourn this matter until September 4 to assess his motivation. What I have in mind is a community order or prison. If he does not show the motivation in four weeks it will be prison - it’s as simple as that.’ Judge Lachlar previously ordered Pete - who was stopped by police in Kensington High Street, west London, on May 5 - to undergo a detox treatment at a hearing in July.

A movie adaptation of comic superhero FLASH starring RYAN REYNOLDS is back on, the actor has revealed.
The project has been in the pipelines for two years - but looked dead when Reynolds said earlier this year (07) the film "isn’t something that I can imagine happening".
But Reynolds has made a u-turn and now insists talks are back underway. He tells MTV, "No, the Flash isn’t dead at all. There’s talk of it being a (Justice League of America) movie.
"And then there’s other talk of doing a Flash movie with Shawn Levy.
"I don’t really know how much I’m allowed to talk about that stuff. But it’s no secret that they have a JLA script and it’s a project that’s in development.
"I’d love to do it, it’s just making it feasible. It’s a lot of money and it’s a very difficult character to represent. You can’t just have (the Flash) be a blur running by. These days people need to see more than that."

The rapper - real name Jasiel A. Robinson - admits he wrote song Coffee Shop to include the lyrics, "Kids, please don’t do drugs," because he know he has an influence over youngsters’ behaviour.
He says, "I always hear parents tell me, ‘My 5-year-old daughter loves you.’ That’s why I didn’t want to talk about drugs when I talked about hustling on this record.
"That’s not what people expect from me. Coffee Shop is fun because I know the kids feel me. The song’s title is really about me selling everything. I used to cut hair, sell clothes, shoes, women’s bags, accessories, cars, whatever, so my hustling headquarters is the coffee shop."

WOLFMOTHER frontman ANDREW STOCKDALE has been involved in a fight over ‘compromising’ photos taken on a mobile phone, according to Australian reports.
The rocker was photographed by a fan at a bar in Brisbane, Australia, at the weekend (18-19Aug07), before getting involved in a drunken brawl while attempting to erase the picture.
According to the Sydney Daily Telegraph, Stockdale became determined to erase the offending image, and got into a fight with a male friend of the owner of the phone used to take his photo.
Staff at the Emporium Hotel intervened in the argument, with Stockdale asked to return his room on the premises.
