LATEST: Troubled British rocker PETE DOHERTY escaped prosecution on Tuesday (21Aug07) because authorities failed to get him to court in time.
The 28-year-old was arrested on Monday (20Aug07) on suspicion of possessing drugs, and charged with breaching his bail conditions. He was kept in jail overnight, but a magistrate was forced to release him without charge on Tuesday because more than 24 hours had passed since his arrest.
Prosecutor Anjulika Vatish told West London Magistrates’ Court, "The court has no jurisdiction to deal with this matter anymore." Just weeks ago Doherty was warned he had a month to prove his desire to quit drugs or he would face a jail sentence after committing a number of drug-related offences.

Marianne Solberg Behn and Olav Bjorsol - the parents of Martha’s husband Ari Behn - tied the knot in the western municipality of Frederikstad in Norway.
The happy couple were joined by dozens of well-wishers, including Martha’s mother, Queen Sonja, for their nuptials at the Old Town Church, the Hello! website reports.
Martha and Ari attended the ceremony with their daughters, four-year-old Maud Angelica, and two-year-old Leah Isadora, who were flower girls for the special occasion.
Marianne, 53, and Olav, 55, first married in 1973, but divorced 10 years later.
However, when they met up for the marriage of Martha and Ari in 2002 they had rekindled their romance, and after five years back together they decided to wed for a second time.
Martha’s choice of husband caused a social scandal at the time, as Ari is a controversial novelist who has been criticised in his homeland for his political links to the Norwegian Labour Party.

The prayers, written by the Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr Rowan Williams, will be read at Diana’s London memorial service on August 31.
The readings, which have been published by the Church of England, talk about Diana’s ‘generosity’, ‘vulnerability’ and her ‘tragic and untimely death’.
The prayers will also be available to congregations around the country who want to express their sorrow and grief over Diana’s tragic death.
William and Harry, their grandparents, Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip, and their father, Diana’s ex-husband Prince Charles, will all attend the memorial service at the Wellington Barracks’ Guards Chapel.
Charles’ wife, Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, is also set to attend. The move has sparked outcry among Diana fans who believe she should stay away because of her perceived role in the breakdown of Charles and Diana’s marriage.
However, William and Harry get on well with their stepmother and feel she will be a great support for their father during the moving memorial.
Diana was tragically killed in a Paris car crash on August 31, 1997, along with lover Dodi Fayed and driver Henri Paul.
Her death caused an international outpouring a grief.

Harry Lopes - who is expecting his first child with wife Laura Parker Bowles, Britain’s Prince Charles’ stepdaughter - has described himself as unattached on his profile page on the popular site Facebook.
The underwear model-turned-accountant even goes as far to say he is looking for ‘random play’, ‘a relationship’ or ‘anything I can get’.
One friend has responded to Harry’s interesting remarks on his message board, saying: ‘Does your wife know that you are claiming to be single and looking for random play? I seem to remember going to your wedding in May last year.’ Laura, 28, who runs an art gallery in Belgravia, and Harry tied the knot at St. Cyriac’s Church in the quaint Wiltshire village of Lacock.
Last month, the happy couple announced Laura was three months pregnant and due to give birth in January.
Laura - whose father is Camilla’s ex-husband Army officer Andrew Parker Bowles -excitedly gushed: ‘Yes, I am three and a half months pregnant ‘Everyone’s absolutely delighted. Publisher Akira Kitagawa - who has agreed to release Ben Hills’ tome ‘Princess Masako, The Prisoner of The Chrysanthemum Throne’ - was targeted in a vicious article in Japanese weekly magazine Shukan Shincho, which accused him of being a former member of a terrorist organisation.
Japanese daily newspaper Asahi Shimbun also refused to publish an advertisement for the book, saying it was disrespectful to the royal family.
But Kitagawa has e-mailed Hills assuring the Australian journalist that he would still going ahead with the publication, the Sydney Morning Herald reports.
The publisher wrote: ‘Just now, two black cars with ultra-nationalistic slogans on them are parking besides the building where my company address is. They are shouting hysterically ‘Stop the publication of Princess Masako’ with huge loud speakers. Policemen are just watching them and let them do as much as they want to do.
‘This is how your book is getting more and more popular in Japan before being published.’ Hills’ book - first released earlier this year - has been a worldwide success, but is yet to be published in Japan. Publishing house Kodansha had originally signed up to translate the book into Japanese, but suddenly pulled out in February, apparently in response to pressure from the royal household.
Hills angered officials with his claims that Masako - a former diplomat now married to Crown Prince Naruhito - is a tragic figure and a victim of bullying by the royal establishment.
Japan’s Foreign Ministry originally sought an apology from Hills and his Australian publisher Random House.
The author refused to apologise, saying: ‘There is nothing to apologise for. In fact, there is only one person in this saga that deserves an apology and that’s Princess Masako.’

Phil Hall, who was editing Britain’s News of the World at the time of her tragic death in August 1997, has shouldered some of the blame as paparazzi were chasing the princess’ car when is crashed in a Paris tunnel.
Hall - the first tabloid editor to take any blame - told ITV1 documentary ‘Diana’s Last Summer’: ‘I felt huge responsibility for what happened and I think everyone in the media did.
‘It’s difficult because we knew the full story, we knew that Diana was helping newspapers and yeah the driver was drunk.
‘But my view is that if the paparazzi hadn’t been following her, the car wouldn’t have been speeding and, you know, the accident may never have happened.’ In the programme, which marks the 10th anniversary of the princess’ death, Diana’s former aide Patrick Jephson revealed how determined the paparazzi were to get a picture of Diana and her new lover Dodi Al Fayed, who was also killed in the crash.
He said: ‘The Paris paparazzi were a well-known phenomenon. They were a kind of circus. They would chase the royal motorcade on motorcycles, they had pillion passengers carrying heavy television cameras. It all contributed to the sense of being inside a wild west stagecoach while bandits were attacking it.’ French photographer Pierre Suu added that the photographers were fighting for that front-page exclusive picture.
He said: ‘The ultimate set of pictures would be of them going into a jeweller’s and buying a ring.’ After the fatal accident, pictures of Diana lying dying at the scene of the crash surfaced, but no tabloid editors used them.
Suu said: ‘The very courageous editors worldwide, these very respectable men in very expensive suits and chauffeurs were so keen to get these pictures first but as soon as the news arrived that the princess had died, ‘Oh no, no, no, no, we don’t buy this any more, please erase all emails, and whatever conversation.’

Japanese royal PRINCE TOMOHITO has admitted he began battling alcoholism at the tender age of 15.
The Prince, who was the first ever member of Japan’s royal family to publicly admit he was suffering from the condition in June (07), has conceded he first started drinking in his teens, years below the country’s legal drinking age of 20.
He says, "I was first diagnosed as an alcoholic in my 30s. My hands were shaking and I couldn’t hold a cup of tea in the VIP room (of Tokyo’s Haneda airport)".
"I was immediately admitted to the Japan Red Cross Medical Center. I was in an awful condition, hallucinating auditory and visually for a week." And Tomohito admits his condition has worsened over recent years: "The volume I drank swelled rapidly over the past three years as there were various problems that drove me into a towering rage."

He upset people in the Causeway with his behaviour. They spent half their time arguing. This just shows why the family are so desperate for her to get help without him." Amy and Blake left the £10,000-a-week retreat in a taxi and spent the night at a central London hotel.
The source added: "Everyone is worried that if they are let loose in London again they’ll go straight back to their old habits." Amy, 23, entered the Causeway facility last Monday (13.08.07) after allegedly overdosing on a cocktail of ecstasy, cocaine, ketamine and alcohol.
She only lasted 48 hours before leaving to visit her favourite pubs in Camden, north London. Amy returned to the facility last Thursday.
The star’s mother, Janis, believes Amy is "lucky to be alive".
Janis said: "Her brain is addled. She is on a path of self-mutilation. Once Amy said to me, ‘I don’t think I’m going to survive that long’. A part of me has prepared myself for this. It’s as though she has created her own ending."
