Norway’s Queen Sonja has spoken out in defence of her daughter Princess Martha Louise’s angel school.
The princess has faced intense public criticism for launching the Astarte Education centre - which promises to teach students to ‘create miracles’ in their lives ‘with angels and with your own force’ - and some have even called for her to be stripped of her royal title.
But Queen Sonja told NRK TV News: ‘This is her own business venture. It’s her responsibility.
‘It is okay if she feels she has some abilities that can help others.’ Asked if she believes in angels herself, the queen said ‘Not exactly angels, but something between heaven and earth.’ With regards to how Princess Martha’s new project reflects on the monarchy the Queen Sonja said: ‘That’s up for others to decide.’ Critics have demanded Princess Martha is banned from using her royal title to promote her school and there have also been calls for her to leave the church.
As a member of Norway’s Royal Family, the 35-year-old princess is expected to uphold the beliefs of the state Evangelical Lutheran Church.
Princess Martha defended herself in an exclusive interview with NRK TV News, saying she still considered herself a Christian and was thankful the church still had room for her. She also said she believes angels were not physical, but creatures of light, which made her feel a strong presence and gave her loving support.
