Crusading actress MIA FARROW has lit a symbolic torch to highlight the ongoing atrocities in western Sudan.
Farrow, a goodwill ambassador for U.N. Children’s Fund UNICEF and outspoken critic of the abuses taking place in the war-torn country, held the flame in Oure Cassoni refugee camp, near Chad’s border with Sudan.
She said, "This flame represents and honours all those who have been lost, and all those who still suffer.
"This flame celebrates the courage of those who survived and represents the hope we all share for an end to the violence, and a safe return home." Farrow made her political statement almost exactly a year before the Beijing Olympics open (08Aug08). China is Sudan’s most powerful ally and stands accused of shielding its government from international action.

Singer DANNII MINOGUE has hit out at fellow TV talent show judge LOUIS WALSH, after he claimed her pop star sister KYLIE couldn’t sing.

LIZA MINNELLI’s ex-husband DAVID GEST has found love for the second time this year (07) - with a British TV presenter called Nikki.
Earlier this year, Gest posed for romantic photos with his actress girlfriend Malandra Burrows in British magazine OK!, declaring "I’m in love and I hope to have children very soon".
However, while hosting British TV show The Friday Night Project, Gest introduced the audience to his latest flame.
Gest enthuses, "It’s love. I haven’t felt like this since seeing Liza Minnelli. She’s beautiful and appreciates who I am."

Soul star ANGIE STONE’s ex-boyfriend D’ANGELO was "very possessive" during their four year relationship and used to explode with jealousy.
The 46-year-old singer and D’Angelo - real name Michael E. Archer - dated in the mid-90s and had a son Michael Jnr together.
But Stone admits the romance was draining because her boyfriend continually struggled to contain his envy.
She tells Essence magazine, "D’Angelo is very possessive of the women he loves and had a major jealous streak. Even now, it’s still major and we haven’t been together for 10 years.
"When he became a superstar I never gave him cause to look twice because he had me so in check I wouldn’t even turn my head if we was driving on a freeway because he didn’t play that."

AMY WINEHOUSE’s U.S. record label is threatening to sue American record stores that are selling pirated copies of her as-yet-released in the States debut album.
Universal planned for Frank to hit stores in November (06), off the back of the success of her sophomore release Back To Black - which has been a massive hit in America and sold nearly 1 million copies to date.
But its success has prompted a huge demand for Frank, and a number of stores are reportedly selling illegally imported copies - with sales reaching 18,000.

Screen legend SIR ANTHONY HOPKINS told a newspaper reporter to "f**k off" after accusations he is unpatriotic. The 69-year-old has attracted criticism from the British press for taking U.S. citizenship in 2000 and moving to Santa Monica, California while retaining his knighthood and title.
And Welsh-born Hopkins, who donated £1 million ($2 million) to his native country’s National Trust’s Snowdonia Appeal, claims he was even criticised for winning an Oscar for his role in The Silence of the Lambs.
He says, "They can’t stop themselves, some newspaper reporters, calling and asking if I feel I have let my country down by leaving it. ‘F**k off,’ I told the last one. ‘Why don’t you go and do something for your country?’ "And these pygmies talk to me of patriotism. I remember even being attacked by some newspapers when I got an Oscar! I certainly don’t feel sorry for myself but I was not going to hang around (in the U.K.). BRITNEY SPEARS’ former husband KEVIN FEDERLINE has been dropped from a role in KEANU REEVES’ new movie, according to reports.
The dancer-turned-actor was due to appear in The Night Watchman - with rumours abounding Federline was "appearing opposite" the Speed star.
However, reports allege Federline was fired from the forthcoming film, but was not informed of his ’sacking’.
A source tells the New York Daily News, "He had a very small role - he was in a montage.
"He was fired from the film, but his manager didn’t tell him. Kevin found out when he turned up for a wardrobe call." Federline’s manager declined to comment on the reports, however a representative for Fox Searchlight denied he was ever cast in the movie.

CAMERON DIAZ’s former money manager DANA GIACCHETTO has been ordered to surrender all potential earnings arising from his new book following a court conviction.
The advisor was convicted in 2001 of siphoning money from existing clients’ accounts into those of his Hollywood clients, while being found guilty of stealing $10 million (£5 million) from celebrities to fund a lavish lifestyle.
His book - You Will Make Money In Your Sleep: The Story Of Dana Giacchetto, Financial Adviser To The Stars - has sold approximately 300 copies since its release in June this year (07), but following the new ruling, Giacchetto no longer holds the rights to any movie, television adaptation of serialisation of the book, reports the New York Daily News.

Oscar winner HELEN MIRREN is glad she has never had children and slams the notion childless women are sad as "bulls**t".
The 62-year-old actress insists she is happier without kids and doesn’t regret not having any of her own.
She says, "I am thrilled that I don’t have children - I have the thing I love, which is freedom.
"In a funny way, if you don’t have children, you can concern yourself more generously with the extended family and let other people have the children.

MICHELLE PFEIFFER switches off the TV if any of her movies come on, because she can’t bear to watch herself.
Pfeiffer admits it’s difficult to avoid the sight of herself on TV because she’s made so many films during her 25 year career.
She says, "I cannot bear it when I’m channel surfing and there I am, suddenly popping up.
"I recently watched television with my kids and Married To The Mob was on. I was able to watch it for 15 to 12 minutes."

Bollywood superstar SHAHRUKH KHAN is not surprised he has failed to land a part in a blockbuster movie - because he doubts his acting abilities.
The actor - who is currently in London promoting new movie Go For It India will never land a megabucks movie deal because he does not boast the skills of his Hollywood counterparts.
He says, "If there is a (Hollywood) role which is interesting enough, I would do it. But so far I have never been offered a big role or a good role from Hollywood - actually, for that matter, never a role from Hollywood, big or small.
"I don’t think I am a specifically talented enough 40-year-old actor. I am sure there are a lot of 40-year-old actors there who are more talented, better looking, speak the language better.
"And I don’t have a USP (unique selling point) of Kung Fu, I can’t do something specific. Unless they start doing Hindi film songs in Hollywood, I don’t think anybody is going to cast me." And Khan claims Bollywood stars should give up attempting to break into Hollywood, adding "I don’t think working down there (Hollywood) is the ultimate aim or should be the ultimate aim of an Indian actor."

Legendary American filmmaker FRANCIS FORD COPPOLA has been honoured by the French Legion after they promoted his rank from ‘Chevalier’ to ‘Officer’. The Legion of Honour is the highest award given by the French Republic for outstanding service to France, regardless of the social status or nationality of the recipients.
Coppola was praised on Thursday (10Aug07) for his contributions to cinema and culture, along with his "passion for food, wine and art" by France’s consul general, Frederic Desagneaux.
Desagneaux told Coppola at the ceremony held in his San Francisco home, "You are a wonderful storyteller. I think a main reason the French audience likes your films is that they deal with the myth and legend of America." Coppola says, "I wasn’t quite expecting this promotion. I’m very grateful and I’m very touched. My granddaughter Romy (child of Sophia Coppola and French rocker Thomas Mars) thanks you as well." The Legion Of Honor was created by French leader Napoleon Bonaparte in 1802.

A man who attempted to rob the home of rap star J. KAPONE has died after he was caught up in gunfire.
The unidentified man was attempting to break into the star’s Texas home on Thursday (09Aug07) when he was fatally shot.
Police found the man bleeding from the head after a struggle in the home. He collapsed and died at the scene.
Kapone’s neighbour, Bridgette Banfield, said the rapper’s home had a recording studio which was frequently visited.
