British pop star LILY ALLEN has disappointed fans by cancelling a series of upcoming gigs across Europe after falling victim to illness.
The Smile singer was due to play four dates later this month (Aug07), but has been forced to pull out of any performances while she recovers from sinusitis a condition she believes has been caused by excessive world travel.
Allen has pleaded with fans not to be disappointed by the cancellations, has apologised for feeling poorly.
Posting on her MySpace blog - accompanied by a photo of her holding a doctor’s note - she writes, "I’ve literally been around the whole world in two weeks from London to Japan around Australia and then to LA and Vegas then back to LA for a 17 hour video shoot , and now I’m back in London eating my mums chicken soup cause I’m afraid the travelling has caught up with me.
"I’ve got sinusitis and strep throat (I don’t even know what that is) and have been advised to take a couple of weeks off by a doctor in LA and a doctor here .Before anyone starts trying to accuse me of neglecting my fans I want to apologise and say how sorry I am , but I cant risk causing any permanent damage I hope people can understand and aren’t too angry." Gigs in Norway (10Aug), Sweden (11Aug), Portugal (15Aug) and Holland (17Aug) have been cancelled, but Allen hopes to honour her performance at the U.K.’s V Festival the following weekend (18-19Aug07).

GWYNETH PALTROW is still furious with a Portuguese newspaper for misquoting her last year (06), after she was reported to have accused Americans of being less intelligent than their British counterparts.
The Oscar winning-actress has lived in London since she started dating her now-husband Chris Martin in 2002, and currently lives in north London with the rocker and their two young children Apple and Moses.
In December (06), Paltrow was quoted as saying, "I don’t fit into the bad side of American psychology. The British are much more intelligent and civilised than the Americans. I love the English lifestyle. I’m not as capitalistic as America." Months later, Paltrow insists right-wing critics in the U.S. are still giving her bad press over the quotation.
She says, "I went nuts over that. I love America, and I’m an American through and through. But the conservative media won’t let it go.
"People love to give you a moniker and then, you know, they’ve designed this hole for you that you have to fit in."

Imprisoned Bollywood actor SANJAY DUTT’s colourful life is set to be transported on the big screen.
Daivanamathil director Jayaraaj is hoping the troubled star will allow him to create a movie based on his life behind bars.
Dutt was jailed for six years last month (31Jul07) for illegal possession of arms in relation to the serial bombings in Mumbai in 1993, which claimed 257 lives.
Jayaraaj says, "Specially, I would like to explore the reflection of the other prisoners on him and his interactions with them."

Teen actor ZAC EFRON has played down reports he wears a ‘commitment’ ring from HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL co-star and girlfriend VANESSA HUDGENS, insisting commitment is "way too weird a word" for him at such a young age.
The Hairspray heart-throb, 19, has been spotted wearing a silver ring on his left hand and was recently quoted saying, "Exchanging rings is far easier than getting tattoos." While Efron is happy to talk about his on-screen chemistry with Hudgens and describes her as a "very sexy woman", he refuses to divulge any more details of their one-year relationship.
He says, "I’m not even going to say who it’s from. This is just a ring from a friend that I got. ‘Commitment’ is way too weird a word for me right now.
I’m wearing it for a friend. It is a female friend, but I can’t say who, because then it would be chat-room pandemonium and teenage magazine-hysteria."

HUSTLE & FLOW star TERRENCE HOWARD refuses to date women who don’t use moistened tissue on visits to the toilet - as they are "not completely clean".
The actor insists potential female suitors must not rely solely on toilet tissues in the bathroom, and even goes to the trouble of advising any partners to make the switch to baby wipes if they don’t already use them.
He tells Elle magazine, "If they’re using dry paper, they aren’t washing all of themselves. It’s just unclean.
"So if I go inside a woman’s house and see the toilet paper there, I’ll explain this. And if she doesn’t make the adjustment to baby wipes, I’ll know she’s not completely clean."

HEROES star HAYDEN PANETTIERE isn’t satisfied with her TV character’s secret power - she wishes she was invisible instead.
The 17-year-old plays Claire Bennet, who is immortal, and able to regenerate her body after potentially fatal injuries.
But after months being hounded by the press, Panettiere would rather be able to go unnoticed.
She says, "(I would like) the ability to be invisible.
"Obviously we can blame most of it on the people who are doing the bad things that they’re not supposed to be doing. But with cameras in your face all the time, it leaves you no room to mess up even slightly.
"If I could lock up my door, and drive my car out of my (driveway) and not be followed by paparazzi, I would be a very happy person."

WOODY ALLEN was banned from casting WINONA RYDER and ROBERT DOWNEY JR for his 2002 movie MELINDA AND MELINDA, because no-one would insure the troubled stars.
Ryder had only just been convicted of felony grand theft for shoplifting from a California department store and Downey Jr. was still recovering from drug addiction - and insurance companies ruled them too risky.
Will Ferrell and Radha Mitchell were cast instead.
Allen makes the revelation in a new book Conversations With Woody Allen which is due out in October (07).
He says, "I couldn’t get insurance on them… We couldn’t get bonded. The completion bonding companies would not bond the picture unless we could insure them."

LATEST: DUANE ‘DOG’ CHAPMAN has vowed to continue his bounty-hunting career but will not return to Mexico on any future missions.
The star of U.S. TV series Dog The Bounty Hunter escaped charges earlier this month (Aug07) relating to a June 2003 incident in the country, during which he planned to capture serial rapist Andrew Luster - the heir to the Max Factor cosmetics empire - in Puerto Vallarta on the Pacific coast.
However, Chapman fell foul of the Mexican legal system by embarking on the mission, because bounty hunting is deemed illegal in the Latin American country. Chapman, his son Leland and colleague Tim Chapman - no relation - were charged with deprivation of liberty after their success, and were detained in a local prison for two weeks before Chapman jumped bail and fled to the U.S.
And Chapman insists the debacle has given him new motivation for bounty hunting, and he now plans to specialise in targeting perpetrators of crimes against women and children - but will steer clear of the South American country.
He tells FoxNews.com, "I’m going to keep bounty hunting in the U.S., but not in Mexico. I don’t know anything else to do. I still have a few to pick up. I felt like I’d had a heart transplant (when the charges were dropped). I felt brand new." A Mexico judge cancelled an order for Chapman’s arrest last Thursday (02Aug07).

Australian pop star NATALIE IMBRUGLIA has cast doubt on her acting ability after admitting she struggles to play characters that differ from her.
The singer, who appeared in long-running soap Neighbours and made her big-screen debut in comedy Johnny English in 2003, admits she’s nervous about taking the lead role in new movie Elise - because her character Elise Silverton is a quiet and disturbed woman.
She says, "I’ve got no idea if I’m going to be able to pull it off - it’s a challenge.
"It’ll actually be very hard for me because it’s quite a still performance and I’m quite over the top, loud and expressive." The movie, based on author Georgia Blain’s novel Closed For Winter, deals with the story of a woman haunted by the disappearance of her sister 20 years before. JOHN BUTLER TRIO drummer MICHAEL BARKER fought to save a drowning man in Townsville, Australia on Friday (09Aug07), but tragically couldn’t get to the 22-year-old in time.
Barker was riding through the Queensland town at 8.15am (local time) when he heard Shane Soloman shouting for help in Ross Creek.
He and another man tried to pull Soloman out of the water, but he died soon after leaving the river.
Barker says, "I just heard a bit of a ruckus and there was a lady calling for help so myself and another gentleman went down assist. We slid down the embankment, which was quite a steep climb. "The other gentleman was administering some chest compressions, but he was oozing a lot of froth which wasn’t a good sign. He had a huge bump on his head." Soloman was declared dead at the scene of the accident.

Former GUNS N’ ROSES guitarist SLASH has hit out at former bandmate AXL ROSE for continuing to record and perform using the band’s name.
Slash thinks the singer should have picked another name after the band split - but he harbours no ill feeling towards Rose.
The Velvet Revolver rocker says, "As far as what is happening with Guns N’ Roses, when I quit the band, or when I left the organization, so to speak, and Axl was keeping the name, I sort of wished that he’d let the name go and done something on his own and kept the name sort of intact, but him using it and going out and doing his thing.
"It is what it is - I don’t necessarily support it but I don’t condemn it either. It’s what he wanted to do."

THE CURE have been forced to delay the release of their 14th studio album until next spring (08), making it two years late.
The untitled disc - set to be a double album including 33 songs - was set to be released last May (06), before being postponed to October (06).
Last year (06), frontman Robert Smith admitted he was struggling to write lyrics to match all the music the group had recorded.
The disc will now hit stores in April/May 2008.

LATEST: Troubled singer AMY WINEHOUSE is reportedly recovering from her recent health troubles in a London hotel, not in rehab.
The Back To Black star, 23, was rushed to University College Hospital (UCLH) in London on Wednesday (08Aug07) suffering from "severe exhaustion".
Since her hospitalisation, several British newspapers have alleged Winehouse suffered a drug overdose and was admitted to rehab.
However, NME.com now reports Winehouse has shunned rehab in lieu of a stay at a hotel in the capital, where she is thought to be recovering.

SPICE GIRL EMMA BUNTON is celebrating becoming a mother for the first time after giving birth to a boy on Friday (10Aug07).
The singer and her on-off boyfriend of eight years, former Damage star Jade Jones, have named the tot Beau. He was born at 11.12am at London’s Portland Hospital.

LATEST: Hip-hop star 50 CENT has vowed to outsell his rival KANYE WEST when their albums hit stores on the same day - or quit his rap career.
Both 50 Cent and West are releasing their new albums, Curtis and Graduation respectively, on 11 September (07).
50 Cent, real name Curtis Jackson, challenged West to a live TV debate to determine who has the better album, but the Gold Digger hitmaker turned him down.
Jackson tells the New York Daily News, "Let’s raise the stakes. If Kanye West sells more records than 50 Cent on September 11, I’ll no longer (perform) music. I’ll write music and work with my other artists, but I won’t put out any more solo albums.
"They would like to see Kanye West give me a problem because I’ve worked myself into a space where I’ve become the favourite. Everybody roots (for) the underdog when he goes against the favourite.
"And I bet this: When Kanye West’s sales come in, he’s gonna have a 70 per cent decrease cause Def Jam is gonna buy records (the first week) to keep him closer to 50 Cent. So watch the first week and then watch the second week.
Watch his ass drop off the planet." Jackson’s last album The Massacre sold 4.85 million copies in the U.S., while West’s most recent disc, Late Registration, sold 2.8 million.

ANGELINA JOLIE has given up girls and S&M after falling for Hollywood hunk BRAD PITT.
The 32-year-old actress admits bedding women in the past, including a 10-year relationship with model Jenny Shimizu, and has also confessed to experimenting with knives during sex.

SARAH JESSICA PARKER is so fond of a Scottish brand of toilet paper, she has been paying to have the rolls shipped over the Atlantic to her New York home.
Scots online store Granite House were stunned when the Sex And The City actress ordered the toilet rolls, as well as a set of family games including Twister, Perudo and Ker-Plunk.
Granite House owner Alistair Ness says, "My first thought was, ‘Is it really her?’ But a lot of celebrities uses a PO Box number as they don’t want to give their address and that’s what she did.
"The other thing that convinced me it was Sarah was her email address mentioned her production company."
