REMY MA ‘SHOT’ PAL IN JEALOUS RAGE
LATEST: Hip-hop star REMY MA shot her best friend twice in a premeditated jealous rage, according to the victim’s father.
The Grammy-nominated rap star - real name Remy Smith - is suspected of attempting to murder 23-year-old Makeda Barnes-Joseph in New York City’s Meatpacking district on Saturday (14Jul07).
The alleged victim’s father, Boris Barnes, claims Smith and his daughter have been friends for more than a decade, but jealousy tore them apart.
He tells the New York Daily News, "This is a premeditated action. She meant to kill my daughter." Smith, 26, has been charged with attempted murder, assault and criminal possession of a weapon. Her sports utility vehicle (SUV), which had been involved in a crash and abandoned, was discovered by cops just three blocks from where Barnes-Joseph was shot twice in the stomach.
Barnes-Joseph, who is currently in a stable condition in hospital, claims Smith accused her of stealing $3,000 (£1,500) before firing two shots.
She says, "All I heard was the gun go off. I couldn’t believe she shot me! "What hurts me is that when she shot me she went over and dumped the bag. She didn’t even say, ‘Oh, my God, I just shot her.’ That’s what hurt me so much.
"The fact she would think I would steal from her, it hurts me because I thought she was a friend of mine." Smith has pleaded not guilty to charges of attempted murder, possession of a weapon and assault and is due to return to court on 14 August (07).
