LATEST: Celebrated tenor JERRY HADLEY has received the last rites of the Roman Catholic Church and his life support has been removed.
The singer was admitted to St. Francis Hospital in Poughkeepsie, New York last week (10Jul07) for a gunshot wound to the head which police say was self-inflicted.
He has been on a life support machine in hospital ever since.
Hadley suffered apparent self-inflicted brain damage after shooting himself in the head with an air rifle at his house in Clinton Corners, New York, according to The New York Times.
Hadley won three Grammy Awards and appeared on recordings including Candide, Show Boat and Symphonic Sondheim: Sweeney Todd (at Carnegie Hall).
Sources claim financial issues led to Hadley attempting suicide.

MARC ANTHONY’s ex-wife DAYANARA TORRES has transformed her love life with fellow Puerto Rican AMAURY NOLASCO.

LATEST: The jury at the PHIL SPECTOR murder trial has heard how shooting victim LANA CLARKSON told her closest friend she "wanted out" just days before her death.
Punkin Irene Elizabeth Laughlin - known as Punkin Pie - told the Los Angeles Superior Court hearing how Clarkson complained about her life in Hollywood during a telephone conversation.
Laughlin told the court Clarkson was normally a positive person but the last time she spoke with her friend, the actress told her, "I can’t take it anymore.
I’m sick of this town. I want out." Her testimony supports the defence’s argument Clarkson was suicidal when she went to the music producer’s Alhambra, California home in 2003.
Spector is accused of the fatal shooting of Clarkson at his mansion in February 2003. He has pleaded not guilty and claims Clarkson committed suicide.
The trial continues.

LATEST: Hip-hop star REMY MA shot her best friend twice in a premeditated jealous rage, according to the victim’s father.
The Grammy-nominated rap star - real name Remy Smith - is suspected of attempting to murder 23-year-old Makeda Barnes-Joseph in New York City’s Meatpacking district on Saturday (14Jul07).
The alleged victim’s father, Boris Barnes, claims Smith and his daughter have been friends for more than a decade, but jealousy tore them apart.
He tells the New York Daily News, "This is a premeditated action. She meant to kill my daughter." Smith, 26, has been charged with attempted murder, assault and criminal possession of a weapon. Her sports utility vehicle (SUV), which had been involved in a crash and abandoned, was discovered by cops just three blocks from where Barnes-Joseph was shot twice in the stomach.
Barnes-Joseph, who is currently in a stable condition in hospital, claims Smith accused her of stealing $3,000 (£1,500) before firing two shots.
She says, "All I heard was the gun go off. I couldn’t believe she shot me! "What hurts me is that when she shot me she went over and dumped the bag. She didn’t even say, ‘Oh, my God, I just shot her.’ That’s what hurt me so much.
"The fact she would think I would steal from her, it hurts me because I thought she was a friend of mine." Smith has pleaded not guilty to charges of attempted murder, possession of a weapon and assault and is due to return to court on 14 August (07).

Country star BLAKE SHELTON turned family hero last week (09Jul07)when he confronted an intruder in his uncle’s Oklahoma home.
Shelton and his mother dashed over to Dempsey Byrd’s house after his frantic uncle called them to tell them there was "a big man" in his house.
The singer’s mother, Dorothy Shackleford, says, "After looking through the window and seeing the intruder, Blake knocked on the door, and the man sort of stumbled over and opened it, and Blake said, `Hey, you’re in my house, man.’" Shelton then insisted the intoxicated intruder wait on the porch until police arrived, which he did.
The intruder, James Robert Gastineau, was later charged with first-degree burglary and public intoxication.
Shelton is now helping police with their enquiries.

Hasselhoff is taking time out of his acting career to spend time with Taylor Ann, 17; and Hayley Amber, 14; since winning full and physical custody of the teens during a court battle with ex-wife Pamela Bach last month (Jun07).
The star admits he is very overprotective and often "overreacts" with his youngest daughter Hayley Amber.
He tells America’s OK! magazine, "Today, we were in the ocean and she’s saying, ‘Dad, I want to take off my life preserver.’ And I’m like, ‘These jet skies turn over, we’re in the ocean, you can’t, I’m the lifeguard!’"

LATEST: MATT DAMON has urged fans not to get too excited about his upcoming collaboration with good pal BEN AFFLECK, insisting they haven’t even started the project yet.
Earlier this month (Jul07) Damon’s spokesperson confirmed the actors were hoping to write another screenplay following their Oscar success with Good Will Hunting 10 years ago.

Socialite PARIS HILTON has slammed reports she was smoking marijuana at a Hollywood nightclub with her close pal KIMBERLY STEWART’s ex-fiance CISCO ADLER on Wednesday (25Jul07) morning.
Us Weekly magazine reported partygoers claimed Hilton and Whitestarr frontman Adler were spotted smoking the illegal weed and kissing at Guy’s Nightclub.
However, Hilton’s representative Michael Sitrick says, "Paris absolutely did not smoke pot Tuesday night or Wednesday morning, as I understand was reported.
That report is false." When asked about her relationship to Adler, Sitrick adds, "She was with Cisco Tuesday night/Wednesday morning." Following her release from jail last month (Jun07) for violating her probation from a drink driving arrest, Hilton appeared on Larry King’s CNN show to declare she had never taken drugs in her life.

HEROES actor ZACHARY QUINTO has been unveiled as the new MR SPOCK in the forthcoming STAR TREK prequel - and he’ll star alongside the original LEONARD NIMOY.
The announcement was made at San Diego’s Comic-Con where Quinto appeared onstage with JJ Abrams, who will direct the new movie, which will chart the early years of the USS Enterprise’s crew.
The pair then welcomed Nimoy - a surprise guest - and revealed he will also appear in the movie.
When asked why he agreed to reprise his most famous role - Nimoy joked with the crowd, using one of the Vulcan’s catchphrases: "People keep asking me why I’m doing this movie. The answer is, well, it was logical."

British rockers THE CORAL nearly disbanded in 2005 after becoming jaded with the music industry.
The Liverpool, England group formed in 1996 but nearly ended their successful career nine years later as the novelty of touring and chart success began to wear off.
Singer James Skelly says, "I think everyone discussed it (splitting the band up) separately. I thought to myself, ‘We could walk away here with a good thing.’ "It’s crushing when you think about it. But it’s reality, isn’t it. I think you need it to happen to remind you of how much you love it (being in the band)." The group are currently touring with the Arctic Monkeys.

LATEST: British super-producer MARK RONSON has spoken of his "honour" at becoming the first artist to receive BOB DYLAN’s approval for a remix.
Ronson has created a hip-hop version of classic 1966 song Most Likely You’ll Go Your Way (And I’ll Go Mine) taken from Dylan’s album Blonde on Blonde, but still can’t believe he obtained permission from the folk-rock legend.
He tells AllHipHop.com, "It’s the first time Bob Dylan has given anyone the original multi-tracks of his songs to do remixes.
"I’m a huge Dylan fan, so it’s a great honour, along with the fact that he heard it and approved it, because, as you imagine, he’d be quite picky." And Columbia Records’ U.K. managing director Mike Smith is convinced fans will be just as happy as the legend himself with Ronson’s effort.
He says, "We hope the fans will see this as an addition to the canon, not a desecration. It’s a new interpretation of Bob’s world and adds to the mystery.
We all approached the remix with respect and awe."
