YES ROCKERS BRING THE COUNTRYSIDE INTO STUDIO
British rockers YES converted their London studio into a countryside scene to placate band members who were hoping to record in a quiet retreat.
While keyboardist Rick Wakeman and frontman Jon Anderson wanted to record 1973’s Tales From Topographic Oceans in a rural setting, bassist Chris Squire and guitarist Steve Howe desired a frantic, city location.
Wakeman says, "Myself and Jon wanted to record in the country and Chris and Steve wanted to record in the city.
"So we recorded in the city, but made the studio look like the country. We had haystacks brought in, wooden fences, an electronic cow. I mean, I had the only keyboards that had earwigs and things in them. It was just absolutely nuts."
