AFFLECK AND DAMON TEAM UP FOR CHARITY POKER GAME

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 8:29 pm

Hollywood pals BEN AFFLECK and MATT DAMON teamed up with a host of celebrities for a charity poker game in Las Vegas.
The Good Will Hunting pair and celebrities including Adam Sandler, Don Cheadle, Kevin James, Ray Romano, Brad Garrett, Montel Williams, Martin Sheen and Shannon Elizabeth tried their hands at the poker charity event Up For Africa at the Rio Hotel in Sin City on Thursday (05Jul07).
The event raised money for Enough Project and the International Rescue Committee, which aids survivors form the Dafur crisis.
But despite Damon being credited for the rise of poker in the mainstream after starring in 1998 movie Rounders, he was knocked out five minutes into a tournament.
He joked, "I’m responsible for all these degenerates. It was much more of a subculture when I researched the movie. We had to get buzzed into places and go in these secret doors. It was much less mainstream." His pal Affleck fared the best out of the celebrities, but still only managed half the contest before he was knocked out - and he admits he no longer plays the game as much as he used to.
He says, "I have hardly any time now. Poker takes a lot of time if you want to stay good. I don’t want to suck. I was good. I’m still good. Family is better though."

MICHAEL JACKSON has blasted claims he was too busy to appear at the Black Entertainment Television (B.E.T) awards, branding the allegations "false and defamatory".
The singer was asked to appear at the B.E.T ceremony in Los Angeles on 26 June (07) to perform a special Thriller album tribute and to present his mentor Diana Ross with a Lifetime Achievement Award - but American news agencies claimed Jackson was "too incapacitated to appear." Jackson’s spokeswoman Raymone K. Bain says the information "being disseminated in the media with regards to Mr. Jackson’s invitation …is false.
We cannot understand why anyone affiliated with the program would deliberately misrepresent the facts or attempt to defame Mr. Jackson.
"Mr. Jackson spoke personally to B.E.T C.E.O Debra Lee regarding his invitation to attend the ceremony. Mr. Jackson respects B.E.T and was one of the first recording artists to demand that his record company cooperate with, at the time, a newly established network."

LEUNG: ‘FANS ENVY ME’

HARRY POTTER actress KATIE LEUNG can handle being envied by DANIEL RADCLIFFE fans following their onscreen clinch - because she enjoyed every minute of it.
The Scottish actress, whose character Cho Chang shares a kissing scene with the 17-year-old in Harry Potter and The Order of the Phoenix, says she is expecting young fans to "punch her lights out".
But she wouldn’t’ blame them for being envious because she loved kissing Radcliffe.
She says, "You know, I haven’t had anyone come up to me and say, you know, ‘I wanna punch your lights out’, not that I’d mind! But they’ve all been really cool; they’ve all been really accepting, and I hope they all enjoy the kissing scene.
"It was so nerve-racking because just before I did the scene, just because it kept getting postponed, and you know they changed it, it was meant to be in a different scene and then and Dan felt ill at one point, but no, once we did it, it was very relaxed atmosphere.
"(Director) David Yates made it very intimate, he closed the set, it was very peaceful, and it went very well. Daniel was very sweet, a real gentleman."
