LATEST: Singer PETE DOHERTY has been told he faces jail if he doesn’t undergo rehab to tackle his addiction to drugs.
The Babyshambles frontman pleaded guilty to possessing quantities of crack cocaine, heroin, cannabis and ketamine as well as two driving offences at a hearing in London on Tuesday (02Jul07) Judge Davinder Lachhar told Doherty - currently dating supermodel Kate Moss he would only avoid jail on the condition he enter rehab before 7 August (07), when he is due to be sentenced.
Judge Lachhar said "If you go to this place to have detox and take advantage of it then we will see what sentence is appropriate when you next come. But if you do not I can tell you now that you will go into custody." She hinted that she decided to give him another chance, after discovering he had been offered the chance to undergo rehab in Harrogate, northern England, later this month (Jul07).
Speaking to reporters outside court, Doherty vowed to abide by the ruling, saying, "I have got no choice, have I … It’s rehab or jail. I was going to rehab anyway to be honest with you - this is just a little push."

Supermodel PETRA NEMCOVA fear of depleting fish stocks has turned her into a vegan.
The Czech model has stopped eating fish for fear they will die out - and has abandoned animal products as a result.

Actress CALISTA FLOCKHART blames the success of 1990s TV show ALLY McBEAL for her dramatic weight loss and ill health.
The Emmy award-nominated actress once collapsed through dehydration during filming and was often criticised for her thin appearance.
But Flockhart denies she ever suffered from an eating disorder and blames the stresses and success of the TV show for her slim figure.
She says, "I have honestly never dieted in my life. My parents and friends tell me that I have always looked the same since high school. But during (Ally McBeal), when we were filming and working so hard, I became stressed and did not eat as much as I should.
"I think, on a frame like mine, if I lose a few pounds, it makes a big difference. There was no anorexia or bulimia or any other such thing. I hated every bit of attention on my weight and size. Even now, I can’t put into words what exactly happened."

Musician B.B. KING was devastated when his manager banned him from flying a plane alone - as it "took the fun out of it".
The Blues legend, 81, is a qualified pilot and used to travel to performances in his own private plane, but was told by his insurance company and manager he would have to take on a co-pilot to supervise his actions for any future journeys.
King now abstains from flying to all of his gigs, instead travelling primarily in a mobile home.
He says, "(Flying with someone else) took all the fun out of it. That’s like having a chaperone when you’ve got a pretty girl."

Rap superstars JAY-Z and NAS have spoken out in defence of hip hop in a new book about the music genre.
Jay-Z wrote the introduction for Know What I Mean? Reflections On Hip Hop, by Georgetown University professor Michael Eric Dyson - and Nas wrote a passage at the end of the book.
The book tackles the use of politics and gender in rap - and the pair were keen to speak out at a time when hip hop is under attack for encouraging violence and promoting misogynist behaviour.
Jay-Z writes, "He has shown those doubters and critics that hip hop is a vital arts movement created by young working-class men and women of colour.
Yes, our rhymes can contain violence and hatred. Yes, our songs can detail the drug business and our choruses can bounce with lustful intent. However, those things did not spring from inferior imaginations or deficient morals; these things came from our lives. They came from America."

The Lizzie McGuire star insists she hates her "mainstream" tag, and would love to land more challenging acting roles - but insists it’s the fault of movie bosses who can’t see past her "teen star" image.

The one-time manager of Reggae superstar BOB MARLEY has been convicted of drug dealing offences following a seven-day trial in Jamaica.
Former Jamaica football player Allan Cole was jailed for 18 months and fined $15,150 (£7,575) after being found guilty of possession of marijuana, dealing in marijuana and attempting to export the drug in Kingston on Monday (02Jul07).
But Cole’s attorney Patrick Atkinson notified the court his client would appeal and he was released on $29,850 (£14,925) bail.
Cole, who claims to have helped Marley write seven of his hit songs, was arrested in 2002 after police raided his house in the Jamaican capital and found 60 cartons of compressed marijuana, weighing 149 kilograms (328.5 pounds).
Cole maintained his innocence throughout the trial, insisting he "was set up".

Rock supergroup VAN HALEN’s postponed summer (07) reunion tour is back on, according to U.S. reports.
The 40-date trek, featuring Van Halen brothers Alex and Eddie, Eddie’s teenage son Wolfgang and frontman David Lee Roth, was derailed when guitarist Eddie checked into rehab for alcohol-related issues earlier this year (07).
Reports suggest the tour may be resurrected as an autumn (07) arena run.
Several dates are in place, according to Billboard.com, but they’re yet to be confirmed.
The delay has given bass player Wolfgang the chance to hone his skills for the tour after admitting he was relieved the summer tour was called off.
In an interview back in April (07), the young rocker said, "I think I’m too young for the experience, because I know there are a lot of bad things out there."

A smoking ban came into effect in all public places in England on Sunday (01.07.07), including her majesty’s official Buckingham Palace residence.
Although Elizabeth has consented to putting up no-smoking signs in the public areas of the palace she has made it clear to courtiers she would have preferred to continue offering ash trays to visitors and allow them to indulge in their habit.
A palace source said: “Her majesty is a confirmed non-smoker but she is also a great libertarian and has no time for political correctness.
“She has agreed to comply, but can’t bear the government meddling with every aspect of an individual’s life. She always made cigarettes available to her guests.
“I might add that she refuses to wear a hard hat when she is out riding and she refuses, too, to wear a seat belt when she travels by car.” No-smoking signs have been put up at the entrances to Buckingham Palace used by members of the public when they receive honours, but there will none at entrances used by the queen, the royal family or senior aides.

The Duchess of Cornwall reaches the landmark age on July 17, and the heir to the throne is determined to make the day as special as possible.
Charles is believed to be organising the bash with the help of his wife, and intends to host the event at his Highgrove estate.
It is not yet known who will attend the party, but there is a possibility the prince’s parents Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip could be on the guest list.
Charles’ spokesperson said: “Charles and Camilla will host a private party at Highgrove. However, we cannot say who will be attending at this time for security reasons. We can confirm there will be no public aspect to the celebrations.” It is also unknown whether Charles’ sons Princes William and Harry – whose mother, the late Princess Diana, famously described Camilla as the third person in her and Charles’ marriage - will attend.

Sophie, 42, and Edward – who have a three-year-old daughter Louise - are said to be “delighted” with the news. Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip - for who the baby will be their eighth grandchild - are also said to be “thrilled”.
The couple were believed to have almost given up hope of having another child after undergoing years of fertility treatment, following the birth of Louise.
Sophie lost her first baby and almost died in 2001 when she suffered an ectopic pregnancy – where the foetus grows outside the womb - and had to be airlifted to hospital. She subsequently lost the baby.
When Louise was born the countess had to undergo an emergency caesarean after suffering stomach pains.
A friend of the couple said: “Louise is adored by everyone and is the apple of the queen’s eye. Sophie and Edward felt they were lucky to have a beautiful child already. Having another baby was in the lap of the gods.” Sophie beamed as she carried out an official engagement at the Royal Agricultural Show, in Warwickshire, yesterday (02.07.07) Her spokesman said: “She is not putting her feet up. She is going to carry on official engagements as long as she can. She is feeling great and is completely over the moon.
“I don’t know about morning sickness. She looks great and is smiling from ear-to-ear.” The baby will be the ninth in line to the British throne and will have the title Viscount Severn.

Natasha, who wore a tight sequined dress on stage, also revealed she wasn’t wearing any underwear during her performance.
She said: “I had nothing on underneath that dress.” Natasha had been personally asked to perform at the concert by William and Harry, who are both big fans.
Before the show, she described William as “gorgeous”, before adding: “The only problem is he’s single now and I’ve started dating someone. I should have made my move ages ago.” William split with his girlfriend of three years Kate Middleton in April, but reports are rife the pair are considering a reunion.
Proceeds from the concert - which featured a star-studded line-up, which included Sir Elton John, Rod Stewart, Take That and Kanye West - will go to several of Diana’s favourite charities, including the National AIDS Trust and homeless charity Centrepoint.
