LUHRMANN DREAMS OF LORD OF THE RINGS SUCCESS
Filmmaker BAZ LUHRMANN hopes his new movie Australia will match the LORD OF THE RINGS’ success in boosting tourism for the country.
The Oscar-winning director hopes his film - starring Nicole Kidman and Hugh Jackman - will have a similar impact on Australia’s tourism industry as the Lord Of The Rings had on New Zealand - the scene of the trilogy’s spectacular setting.
He says, "It was a little bit of Asia, a little bit of the Wild West, a little bit of Africa - all mixed in creating a natural and truly unique environment.
"It takes it to another level because it becomes globally mythologised.
"If the film does play, if it’s half good, I mean Lord of the Rings is the best example in the world … the response as far as tourism was unprecedented and unimaginable."
