PARIS HILTON has responded to the cancellation of her hit reality series THE SIMPLE LIFE, insisting she’s happy to end on a high.
The wealthy socialite proved a huge hit on the show with close pal Nicole Richie. But, despite spawning five series, network E! revealed on Monday (30Jul07) The Simple Life would be dropped from next year’s (08) line-up.
Hilton is unperturbed by the news, saying, "It’s been a great five years and we had so much fun. I’m happy to end it at that."

ANGELINA JOLIE has dropped her legal battle with a perfume-maker who planned to give her new fragrance the same name as the star’s daughter SHILOH.
The actress filed a note with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office in January (07) after discovering Israeli/French perfume-maker Symine Salimpour was naming her newest scent Shiloh.
Salimpour was shocked, claiming she was inspired by Shiloh’s Hebrew meaning "his gift" and not Jolie and partner Brad Pitt’s 13-month-old daughter.
The Washington Post now claims the legal challenge has been dropped and Salimpour can go ahead - and she has vowed to donate five per cent of the perfume’s profits to an Israeli non profit organisation that provides medical and educational services for disabled children.
She tells the newspaper, "I was so scared. I mean, c’mon, who wouldn’t be? In Hebrew, Shiloh means ‘his gift.’ And I will use the perfume to give something back to the children of Israel and the Middle East."

The Elf star insists late nights and heavy drinking are unprofessional and unwise when carving a career in Tinseltown.
She says, "It’s not that I never go out, but it would interfere with sleep, and I don’t want bags under my eyes when I’m working. I never went off and got tattoos and earrings in that stereotypical way of rebelling against your parents. I never felt the need. When someone goes through a marked rebellion, they’ve been repressing for years. I don’t hold back that much.
"I hope I don’t end up in a gossip column: I plan on keeping all of my clothes fully on."

THE SIMPSONS’ MOVIE has broken HARRY POTTER’s spell over British cinema-goers by topping the U.K. box office after its opening weekend (27-29Jul07).
The film clinches the number one spot with over 2.6 million people flocking to see TV’s first family in their big screen outing, pulling in £13.6 million ($27.2 million).
The latest installment of the boy wizard franchise, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, slipped from first to third place, with Transformers entering in second position. The blockbusters took £8.7 million ($17.4 million) and £3.4 million ($6.8 million) respectively.
John Travolta’s hit musical Hairspray falls from number two to four, while the adventures of the green ogres in Shrek the Third rounds up the top five.

EWAN McGREGOR has toasted his arrival at the Zambia/Zimbabwe border with a trip to the tailors.
The Trainspotting star and his actor pal Charley Boorman are travelling the length of the planet on motorbikes, starting at John O’Groats in Scotland and ending at Cape Town, South Africa.
But as they near the final leg of their journey, wear and tear has started to set in - and McGregor was forced to a local tailor to preserve his dignity.
Speaking on his video diary he explains, "You’re probably wondering why I’ve got this towel on my shoulder in the middle of this town. I’m not going to have a shower, but I think it is time to see if we can fix the hole in between my legs."

Director RIDLEY SCOTT is appealing for scripts to help realise his dream of creating a BLADE RUNNER sequel.
The moviemaker is desperate to follow up his 1982 sci-fi hit and has promised to consider all submissions.
He says, "If you have any scripts, you know where to send them." It’s not the first time Scott has spoken about a sequel, reports Moviehole.net. In an interview with Newsweek he once revealed, "I think Blade Runner made some very interesting suggestions to the origins of Harrison Ford’s character, addressing the idea of immortality. I think it would be a very intelligent sequel."

Martial arts superstar JET LI is teaming up with NATALIE PORTMAN for a Kung-Fu version of classic fairytale SNOW WHITE, according to internet reports.
Movie site Asian Popcorn claims director Yuen Woo-ping is overseeing the project, which "is set thousands of years after the original Snow White story, when the princess has reincarnated into a young woman, played by Natalie Portman".
Jet Li is reported to play the leader of seven warriors dispatched by the Shaolin temple in central China to protect Snow White and seven magical mirror fragments from her evil stepmother.

Veteran crooner ANDY WILLIAMS is toasting his first panty-throwing performance - at the grand old age of 79.
The Moon River singer has always considered himself a ladies man, but his hopes were only confirmed recently - after more than 50 years in the music industry - when a female fan at a British gig threw her underwear in his direction.
He says, "I had my first pair of panties thrown from the balcony. They didn’t quite make it to the stage. They landed on a bald man’s head in the second row - scared him half to death.

Rapper PHARRELL WILLIAMS inadvertently inspired the recent Concert for Diana by petitioning to play at Buckingham Palace.
The memorial gig for late British royal Diana, Princess of Wales, took place at London’s Wembley stadium on 1 July (07) and boasted a host of international music stars on the bill.
Williams insists the gig would never have happened if he hadn’t discussed a royal concert of his own with Diana’s son Prince William months earlier.
He explains, "I was talking to (William) about something that I was doing.
And we needed a purpose for it. I was promoting my record at the time, and I wanted to perform at the Palace. So he was going to get permission from the Queen. I guess it (happened). But it needed purpose. My album wasn’t enough.
"I mean, I was part of (the idea of Concert for Diana). I’m not gonna take credit for it."

Superproducer TIMBALAND is set to launch his own high-tech keyboard - at a cost of $2,967 (£1,483.50) each.
The hip-hop star’s latest album Shock Value has seen massive success in the U.S. and U.K., with single The Way I Are ending Rihanna’s 10-week reign over the British singles charts on Sunday (29Jul07).
And now the beatmaker - real name Timothy Mosley - is teaming up with musical instrument company Open Labs to cash in on his popularity with the Timbaland Special Edition MiKo keyboard work-centre.
He says, "I’ve made the new Timbaland Special Edition MiKo with Tim’s touch.
It’s got everything I need in a single box and when I use it, we make masterpieces." The keyboard features over 24 gigabytes of premium sounds, with no less than 25,027 presets.

STROKES drummer FABRIZIO MORETTI is back with ex-girlfriend DREW BARRYMORE but purely for professional reasons.
The pair split in January (07) but have agreed to put aside their differences to work as producers on a new TV show for VH1.
The programme, called Clash of the Music Videos, will feature contestants remaking classic 1980s music videos. Their efforts will then be judged by the stars of the original video.

Computer giant Apple has no right to sell EMINEM’s music, according to a new lawsuit filed by the rapper’s music publisher.
The suit, filed on Monday (30Jul07) in the U.S. District Court in Detroit, accuses Apple of violating copyright by selling Eminem tracks through its download service iTunes.
Eminem’s music publisher and copyright manager, Eight Mile Style and Martin Affiliated, insist Apple isn’t permitted to sell his music because the rapper has not granted his label, Universal, the right to authorise downloads.
Apple has been asked to stop selling Eminem’s tracks but has so far refused, the suit claims.
Eminem previously sued Apple in 2004 after the company used his song Lose Yourself in an iTunes TV commercial. The advert was never released.

LATEST: SCARLETT JOHANSSON has laughed off claims she will play porn star JENNA JAMESON in a Hollywood biopic.
Jameson herself prompted reports at the Comic Con convention in San Diego, California in July (07), when she said of the actress’ performance in Lost In Translation, "I remember thinking to myself, this girl has such a sexuality without even really trying to be sexy. I was like, ‘This girl could play me.’ "I love her. She’s amazing. She’s smart, she’s funny. … She’s stunning.
"I don’t want someone who’s going to go in there and be like bouncing around.
I want someone who can bring some depth." But Johansson knows nothing of the film project - based on Jameson’s book How to Make Love Like A Porn - which is to be titled Heartbreaker.
Her representative tells People.com, "Scarlett has never seen a script nor been approached about this project. She also has no interest in playing this role."

LINDSAY LOHAN’s troubles continue - a woman is suing her, claiming the actress and her bodyguard hit her car.
Signe Dupuy alleges Lohan and minder Jaz ran into her in Los Angeles in April 2006.
She claims Lohan glared at her, Jaz was hostile and the pair gave her false names before driving off.
Dupuy is taking Lohan to the small claims court - after several failed attempts to contact Lohan, reports TMZ.com.
Lohan’s representative claims the letters were received and "filed away", telling TMZ, "I assumed the letter was sent to (Lindsay’s) lawyers. That’s what they’re paid for." The actress is due to answer the charges in court in September (07).

JENNIFER LOPEZ and husband MARC ANTHONY blame "enablers" for the plight of troubled celebrities LINDSAY LOHAN, BRITNEY SPEARS, PARIS HILTON and NICOLE RICHIE.
The four have all experienced problems with substance abuse and spent time in rehab: Hilton was recently jailed; Richie sentenced to jail and Lohan faces a possible custodial sentence for driving under the influence. Spears was also admitted to a rehabilitation facility earlier this year (07).
And Lopez claims too many young stars surround themselves with an entourage of employees who will say "yes" just to keep their boss happy.
She says, "Nobody has a handbook for fame. It’s no easy thing to deal with.
You’ve got to have good people around you." Anthony adds, "The thing about this business, in a way it’s pretty sad, because you get child stars who are too many people’s meal ticket and they’re not going to tell the child that they can’t do something.
"I had people who kept me in line. I was fortunate in that way. Now… it would seem that people’s best interests are just to keep the star happy as long as the money is still coming in."

Soccer star-turned-movie tough guy VINNIE JONES is selling his home in England to live permanently in Los Angeles in a bid to boost his movie career.
Since retiring from soccer eight years ago (99), Jones has appeared in blockbuster movies Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels and Gone In 60 Seconds and is now determined capitalise on his early film success with even bigger roles.
He says, "I’m selling up in England. Both our houses are going. I need to simplify things and concentrate on my acting career. And this is the place to be. My wife Tanya and I have been based in a rented apartment in Beverly Hills for the past year but I’ve just put in an offer for a house off Sunset Plaza.
I’ve got all my papers sorted for the green card and we’re going to live there for two or three years and see how it goes."
