LONG TERRIFIED OF NEW ORLEANS AUTOGRAPH HUNTER
JUSTIN LONG was relieved during a recent trip to New Orleans, Louisiana when a man who chased him and his then-girlfriend down an alley turned out to be an autograph hunter - not a mugger.
The Dodgeball star was worried about lawlessness in the city following news reports about the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina in 2005, and let his paranoia take over.
The 29-year-old says, "It was terrifying, I had a really scary run-in.
"My ex-girlfriend and I went back there for the first time since Katrina, and we’d heard violence was on the rise, so I’d been really paranoid walking around.
"We were at Jackson Square and I saw this guy with a pony-tail, shorts and he looked like he was on PCP, kind of skittish, looking at us. He followed us for a couple of blocks and I finally stared him down and I was like, ‘What?’ and he got weird and ran away.
"So we walked down this abandoned alley by the church. Halfway down the alley… I turned around and he was at the head of the alley just staring at us. I saw him take off after us. Katie and I were terrified. We were sprinting, we were so afraid.
"I said, ‘If we can get to Jackson Square, where there are crowds, we’ll be safe.’ He showed up at the foot of the alley, I looked at him and he looked at me and he just started running towards us…
"He came up and I was like, ‘What’s going on? You want to do this (fight)?’ And he goes, ‘I’m so sorry, I’m just a huge fan. I’d love an autograph.’ "He couldn’t have been more feminine and non-threatening. He sounded like Truman Capote.
"So I signed his autograph, ‘Thanks for not stabbing us.’ I was very appreciative."
