Licence to kilt
Scottish kilt wearers could face prosecution if they don’t have a licence for their sporran.
Sporran - the Gaelic word for purse - is a pouch worn on a chain or belt which lies in front of a kilt.
The pouch is usually made from otter or badger fur and those animals are now considered endangered.
Kilt wearers will be required to prove the animals were killed lawfully before they are given a licence for their sporran.
Anyone found without a licence could face up to six months in prison and a £5,000 fine.
Hamish Husband, spokesman for the Association of Tartan Army Clubs, said the legislation could affect fans following their national football team.
He said: "Are the police going to take DNA samples from the sporran of every kilted supporter who walks into a match?"
