SPIKE LEE TO MAKE BROADWAY DEBUT WITH STALAG 17
Moviemaker SPIKE LEE is to make his Broadway directing debut by taking charge of a new production of Donald Bevan and Edmund Trzcinski’s play Stalag 17 next year (08).
The Malcolm X director admits he jumped at the chance to take Stalag 17 to the stage after falling in love with Billy Wilder’s 1953 movie version.
He says, "I’m very happy to get the opportunity to make my first foray into the theatre and Broadway.
"I was too young to see the play but I’ve seen the movie numerous times and Billy Wilder is one of my favourite directors. This production will have a contemporary look, yet still stay true to the period and the original play."
