PARKINSON RETIRES
Veteran British TV presenter MICHAEL PARKINSON has announced he is retiring as a chat show host after 25 years.
Parkinson has spoken to a host of A-list stars on his long-running chat show Parkinson over the years, including Tom Cruise, Will Smith, Muhammad Ali, Peter Sellers, Goldie Hawn, Kevin Costner and Nicole Kidman.
The 72-year-old says, "After 25 years of doing my talk show, I have decided that this forthcoming series will be my last.
"My thanks go out to all those who have worked on the shows down the years and the viewers for their loyal support and occasional kind words." The final series of his ITV1 Saturday night chat show will air in the autumn (07).
Parkinson started interviewing celebrities for the BBC in 1971, in a show which lasted 11 years. He returned to the small screen in 1998, but defected to BBC1’s rival ITV1 in 2004.
