CLAPTON’S UNPLUGGED LAYLA TOPS WORST COVERS LIST
ERIC CLAPTON’s unplugged cover of his DEREK & THE DOMINOS hit LAYLA has topped a new internet poll to find the worst pop remake.
Clapton’s acoustic Layla beat out Puff Daddy’s version of The Police’s Every Breath You Take and Dolly Parton’s ill-conceived cover of rock anthem Stairway To Heaven.
In naming the Layla cover the worst, website RetroCrush.com insists, "It’s the equivalent of Robert Plant and Jimmy Page doing a kazoo version of Stairway To Heaven." Editor Robert Berry adds, "When I think of Layla..
. I think of a song to steal George Harrison’s wife with
. This version just reminds me of riding a unicorn across the rainbow bridge
. And every d**k with an acoustic guitar and a camcorder has to put their take of the unplugged version of YouTube now as a result!" The complete top 10 is:
1. Layla (Unplugged) - Eric Clapton
2. Every Breath You Take - Puff Daddy
3. Stairway To Heaven - Dolly Parton
4. Behind Blue Eyes - Limp Bizkit
5. American Pie - Madonna
6. Don’t Go Breaking My Heart - ODB & Macy Gray
7. Ring Of Fire - Olivia Newton John
8. The Greatest Love Of All - Kevin Rowland
9. Downtown Train - Rod Stewart
10. Piece Of My Heart - Faith Hill
