The Shrek actress was visiting the Inca city of Machu Picchu yesterday carrying an olive green bag with a red star and the words "Serve the People" written in Chinese.
In Peru the saying is a reminder of the Maoist Shining Path insurgency which brought the country to chaos in the late 1980’s and early 1990’s, with almost 70,000 people dying during the massacres and bombings.
Pablo Rojas, a prominent human rights activist in Peru says, "It alludes to a concept that did so much damage to Peru, that brought about so many victims. I don’t think she should have used that bag where the followers of that ideology did so much damage."

LATEST: PARIS HILTON will be released from prison on Tuesday (26Jun07) after serving 23 days of her 45-day sentence.
The socialite was sentenced to 45 days in prison last month (May07) after being found guilty of violating her probation from a drink driving arrest last year (06).
She will be released early next week - with the term taking into account 22 days of credit for good behaviour. Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department deputy Dana Camarillo says, "As a result of numerous inquiries, it has come to our attention that clarification is necessary regarding the actual release date of Paris Hilton. "In the case of Ms. Hilton, records specialists from the Inmate Reception Center have calculated her actual release date to be Tuesday, June 26, 2007."

J.K. ROWLING has leaked the ending of the last ever HARRY POTTER book to her husband, according to actor DANIEL RADCLIFFE.
The author will be releasing the seventh and final installment of the boy wizard series, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows next month (21Jul07) - and she is keeping the ending so under wraps not even the actor who plays the teen wizard knows the outcome.

Shamed ex-GREY’S ANATOMY star ISAIAH WASHINGTON insists T.R.KNIGHT wanted him and co-star PATRICK DEMPSEY off the show because of they were getting better storylines.
The actor was fired from the medical drama earlier this month (Jun07) in the wake of a homophobic remark he made about castmate Knight last October (06) - a comment he repeated at the Golden Globe Awards earlier this year (07).
However, Washington claims Knight turned the remark into a major controversy because he was jealous of the storylines he was getting.
He says, "T.R. Knight was very tactical in trying to remove me from the show because he knows that I know, and I was gagged, that he has been working on a conspiracy to get Patrick Dempsey and myself off the show for the last year and a half.
"I know Patrick Dempsey has supported me by stating that if there is anyone that needs to be fired it is T.R. Knight because he has created such a negative environment on that set because he felt like he has not been treated and given the same leading man kinds of story lines."

BLOC PARTY frontman KELE OKEREKE has a secret confession to his army of supporters - he doesn’t like music festivals because they remind him of when he was at school.

American singer RUFUS WAINWRIGHT couldn’t resist having a swipe at America when he appeared at the Glastonbury festival last night - he wore black stripes to represent all that is bad in the country.
The folk star performed during yesterday’s musical event in England wearing a black striped shirt and a red striped jacket. Wainwright used his unusual clothing to convey what he thinks about America.
He said: "We’re (his band) all wearing stripes and brooches tonight. We’re from America so it’s supposed to represent the stars and stripes. Some of us are wearing pretty stripes and that’s good, but the black stripes represent all that is bad in the USA."

DAME SHIRLEY BASSEY has backed British soul star AMY WINEHOUSE to sing the next JAMES BOND theme tune.
Bassey has sung the title song for a record three James Bond movies Goldfinger, Diamonds Are Forever and Moonraker - and is urging the film bosses to hire the Rehab hitmaker for the next spy-franchise installment.

A German teenager in intensive care unplugged another patient’s life support machine because the noise was keeping him awake.
Frederik Moelner - who was recovering from a car crash - said the apparatus keeping 76-year-old Hermann Berghof alive was preventing him from getting any sleep.
A police spokesman said: "The 17-year-old told us the noise was getting on his nerves and he thought this was the best way to make sure he got peace and quiet.
"Luckily the medical staff acted promptly and reconnected the life support machine. If there had been any delay the old man could have died."

Two French bank robbers hoped to steal millions using scooters as getaway vehicles.
The crooks targeted the Credit Lyonnais branch in Rungis, near Paris, but their plan was scuppered by quick-thinking staff.
One worker managed to escape during the raid and called police who surrounded the building.
The dumb duo then let three more members of staff go, telling them not to give police any information.
The foolish pair - both in their 20s - were easily captured by an elite squad as they fled using their less-than-speedy means of transport.
One officer said: "They weren’t the most professional bank robbers we’ve ever been up against.
"Their chances of successfully getting away with the raid were probably zero."

A bra and a pair of knickers have been blamed for a flood and road collapse in a UK town.
The offending lingerie was flushed down a toilet, causing a blocked sewer in Middleton-St-George, County Durham.
Heavy rainfall and a build up of grease and fat caused the pipe to burst and the road above to collapse.
A spokeswoman for Northumbrian water said: "If the underwear had not been flushed down the toilet, this would not have happened. It was very irresponsible behaviour.
"We found a bra and knickers had snagged itself across the nine-inch diameter of the pipe.
"These pipes are not designed to carry bras and knickers." The spokesman added it would be impossible to trace the owner of the underwear, saying "Unfortunately no-one wants to even touch the offending items."

A US man has reported the theft of a chilled salad from his refrigerator.
Police in Somerset, Pennsylvania, were called to investigate a break-in at an apartment.
When they got there, they discovered the door had been kicked in, with a knife stuck in it.
The owner, who had just returned from a local tavern, told police the only thing stolen was the healthy snack.
Police have a suspect and expect to file charges once they finish their investigation.

Roger Tullgren will receive state benefits to supplement his income after psychological analysis confirmed heavy metal dominates his life.
The 42-year-old said: "I have been trying for 10 years to get this classified as a handicap.
"Some might say that I should grow up and learn to listen to other types of music but I can’t. Heavy metal is my lifestyle." The ageing rocker - who has long black hair, a collection of tattoos and wears skull and crossbones jewellery - claims to have attended almost three hundred shows in the last year, often skipping work in the process.
He has just started working as a part-time dishwasher at a local restaurant where his new boss allows him to play loud music at work.

A US man was mugged after being hit over the head with a prosthetic leg.
Antonio Jennings, 21, told police he was approached by two strangers on the streets of Orlando at around 10.30pm.
One of the men was in a wheelchair and the other was walking beside him.
When Jennings neared them to find out what they wanted he was attacked and struck on the head with a false leg.
The thieves then absconded with his wallet, containing cash and ID, and the beer he was carrying.
