Queen Elizabeth, Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall and Princess Michael of Kent thrilled the crowds at the Berkshire racecourse with their stylish outfits as they entered the ground in the traditional carriage procession.
The queen, in shocking pink, was in the first carriage along with husband Prince Philip and son Prince Andrew.
They were followed by Prince Charles and his wife Camilla, who sported an off-white dress with black embroidery, topped off with a feather trimmed hat, and Prince and Princess Michael of Kent, who wore an elegant cream creation.
The queen’s daughter Princess Anne opted for pale green and cream but didn’t take part in the carriage procession. Instead she enjoyed a picnic with a group of friends before the races.
Sophie, the Countess of Wessex - the wife of Prince Edward - was also absent from the procession and spent the whole day with her friend.
Although she wasn’t with the official royal party, her silver-grey outfit and big matching saucer-style hat drew gasps from the crowds.
Her husband was missing from the opening day of the five-day event as he is still travelling back from the Falklands, where he has been commemorating the 25th anniversary of the conflict with Argentina.

Britain’s Prince William has defended his brother Prince Harry’s ‘wild’ behaviour. William, 24, admitted his 22-year-old brother - who has been branded a ‘lager lout’ and ‘party animal’ - liked to have fun, but said some of the things written about him were ‘poisonous’.
The comments were made in the brothers’ candid interview with US TV network NBC, some of which was aired this week.
William told interviewer Matt Lauer: ‘He’s certainly wild. But Harry has had his fair share of hard time from the media.’ The prince added: ‘God knows what is said in the papers. It’s just poisonous.’ William also denied press attention caused the breakdown of his relationship with Kate Middleton, 25, earlier this year. He said: ‘What I do with my private life is between me and myself. I don’t listen to the newspapers.’ Harry did not give away specific details about his relationship with blonde Chelsy Davy, 21, but did admit he felt it was difficult to lead a ‘normal’ life. He said: ‘We know we have certain responsibilities. But within our private lives and within certain other parts of our life we want to be as normal as possible. And yes it’s hard because to a certain respect we never will be normal.

The duchess - the ex-wife of Britain’s Prince Andrew - spotted the jailed 26-year-old’s parents Rick and Kathy Hilton in a Beverley Hills restaurant on Sunday (17.06.07), while dining out with her three godchildren. According to a friend quoted in People magazine, Sarah offered Kathy her ’support and strength from one mother to another’.
She also told the Hiltons that the experience could be ‘the making of Paris’, and she hoped ’some good will come of it’.
The pal claims Sarah has also sent Paris - who was sentenced to 45-days in jail for driving with a suspended licence - a sympathetic note in prison.
The friend added: ‘Sarah knows that you hit obstacles in life and that you can pull out of them.’ Before the socialite was jailed, Sarah had said Paris needed to start accepting responsibility for her actions because of her public profile.
She said: ‘When I married a prince, you wake up in the morning and you have to know the minute you set foot out of that door you have to be careful of the ramifications of your actions.’ The duchess has two daughters with Prince Andrew, Princess Beatrice, 18, and Princess Eugenie, 17.

According to Hello! website, Mary, a longstanding friend of the Flemings’, was asked to be godmother.
British millionaire Rory, heir to the fortune of ‘James Bond’ author Ian Fleming, married Caroline, who was formerly known as Baroness Iuel-Brockdorff and inherited Valdemar Castle, in 2002.

Dickie Arbiter, a former Buckingham Palace spokesman, has accused Tina Brown of cashing in on Diana’s death with the publication of her book ‘The Diana Chronicles’.
He told Britain’s The Independent newspaper: ‘I was called upon by Tina Brown to give a number of quotes but there really is nothing new to write. Much of it is regurgitated and lifted from other books. Tina is talking to the same old suspects, including me. There are some people in the royal household who just won’t talk.
‘In my opinion everyone who writes a book is just cashing in, and frankly there is nothing more to write on Diana.’ Arbiter was a guest at the launch of the book at London’s Serpentine gallery on Monday (18.06.07).
Brown claims there is indeed new information in her book.
She said: ‘There’s a lot of new stuff. I did 255 interviews so it offers a lot of fresh insight into Diana. My favourite stuff came from her early life.’ In the book, Arbiter is quoted as telling Brown: ‘We would all have loved to rip Diana’s knickers off.’ The book also claims that the late Joseph Saunders, Diana’s financial adviser, told a friend in the late 90s: ‘She used to play tennis at Richard Branson’s house but he was always trying to have sex with her.’ Royal author Sarah Bradford claims Brown exploited her biography book ‘Diana’.

Playboy millionaire Hugh Hefner, who would love the hotel heiress to pose for the magazine when she is released from jail, feels Kathy’s disapproval will prevent her.
Hefner told Access Hollywood: ‘Well, that’s a standing offer. I think the problem quite frankly is mama. Mama doesn’t want her to pose.’ Meanwhile, the 26-year-old has been spending her time behind bars reading fan mail.
‘The Simple Life’ star has even been replying to the letters that touch her most.
In a handwritten note obtained by E! Online, Paris wrote: ‘I read your letter and just wanted to thank you for your kind words of love and support. The fact that you took time out of your day to write me truly means the world. Especially at such a difficult and scary time in my life.
‘But I am being strong and trying to make the best out of the situation.
‘And the letters I’m receiving really do put a smile on my face as I sit here in my cell, sad and alone. Again, thank you so much and may God bless you and your family.

Jail is said to be doing wonders for Paris’ complexion.
Actress Julie Araskog - who visited the socialite at the Lynwood jail on Saturday (16.06.07) along with her sister Nicky Hilton - was amazed by how good Paris looked.
Araskog told People magazine: ‘She looked so beautiful.
‘It felt surreal, like a movie. No make-up - she is naturally beautiful. I was stunned.
"She was as beautiful as she is with make-up.’

The twins, who reached the milestone last Wednesday (13.06.07), were joined by celebrities including Joaquin Phoenix, Olivier Martinez and Kirsten Dunst to dance to retro tunes, including Blondie and The Kinks last Friday (15.06.07).

The ‘Simple Life’ star, who arrested for DUI (driving under the influence) last December, has been ordered by a Los Angeles Superior Court to stand trial next month.
The two-week postponement was announced on Tuesday (19.06.07), and Nicole was warned the judge will not allow any further delays.
Los Angeles District Attorney spokeswoman Jane Robison said: ‘Commissioner Steven Lubell did not want any more delays. The trial is now set for July 11. It must happen within 10 days of that date or Nicole Richie must enter a plea. She has two options - either she goes to trial or she changes her ‘not guilty’ plea.’ Nicole’s lawyer Shawn Chapman Holley revealed the case was postponed because it could have clashed with his holiday.
He said: ‘Judges are under orders to get things moving. Nothing extraordinary happened. The case had been set for trial on the 25th and I’m going on vacation on the 28th. He just said no further continuances without good cause. He vacated the trial and set a new date.’ When asked if Nicole may consider a plea agreement to avoid a trial, Holley replied: ‘Just because it is set for trial that does not mean we are going to trial. We are still discussing things and we are still looking at the case.’ Nicole could be jailed for up to a year if she is found guilty because of a previous DUI conviction from 2003.
The 25-year-old, who pleaded not guilty at a preliminary hearing, recently revealed she is terrified of going to jail.
She said: ‘I’m just keeping my fingers crossed, and of course, I’m scared also, but I’m willing to face whatever consequences come my way, and I take responsibility for what I’ve done.’

A Los Angeles judge ruled lawyers must return to court later this year to review the former Playboy playmate’s will.
Superior Court Judge Mitchell Beckloff told the lawyers he was concerned about a clause in Anna Nicole’s will disinheriting any children born after her son, Daniel, who died last September three days after Dannielynn was born. The model died in February of an accidental overdose leaving a will dated July 2001 which named Daniel as sole benefactor.
The will stated: ‘I have intentionally omitted to provide for other heirs, including future spouses and children and other descendants now living and those hereafter born or adopted.’ One of Anna Nicole’s attorneys, Bruce Ross, said he’ll prove at future hearings that the clause is ‘extraordinary and improperly drafted’ and should not stand.
Ross promised to send copy of the court documents to Anna Nicole’s mother Virgie Arthur.

Sheriff’s criminologist Lynn Herold talked the court through Lana Clarkson’s injuries as disturbing images of the actress’ face, some showing blood oozing from her mouth and nose, were presented.
The 40-year-old woman died of a single gunshot to the mouth at Spector’s Los Angeles mansion on February 3, 2003.
Although the jury had previously seen the images, Herold went into as yet unheard gruesome detail about clotting and stringy blood, blood spatter and bodily fluids, using the photographs to demonstrate her findings.
The expert said blood had been smeared on the .38-caliber revolver found at Clarkson’s feet and on her face and hand. She explained the blood would have been moved by either the gun, a bloody cloth at the scene or ‘Mr Spector’.
Prosecutor Alan Jackson asked: ‘But the gun doesn’t move itself, so he (Spector) moved it?’ Herold replied: ‘That is the inference. I’m assuming no law enforcement personnel moved it.’ The forensic expert also claimed somebody had moved Clarkson’s head before the police arrived at the scene.
Herold said she did not visit the crime scene but based her evaluation on photographs and examination of evidence in her laboratory.
Spector’s defence team claim Clarkson accidentally committed suicide by shooting herself in the mouth.
If the 67-year-old producer is found guilty of murder, he faces between 15 years and life in prison.

The five-piece band have been issued a strict set of rules by their manager Simon Fuller to ensure their lucrative comeback goes as smoothly as possible.
High on the list of dos and don’ts is a plea to Victoria Beckham, Melanie Brown, Geri Halliwell, Emma Bunton, and Melanie Chisholm to ‘not become pregnant - please!’.
The news will come as a blow to Victoria - who has three sons with soccer star husband David - who has spoken of her desire to have a daughter.
The rules also prohibit the girls from ‘talking about money that you will potentially earn from the reunion’, or ‘confirming or denying any rumours until everything is in place’.
Fuller also issued the warning: ‘Do not get into spats between yourselves over plans and decisions - is it worth it?’ The list advises the singers to ‘talk about memories of the Spice Girls with affection and pride’ and to ‘respect each other’s personal lives, commitments and views’.
The music mogul writes at the end of his list published in Britain’s The Sun newspaper: ‘I will make this work for you all, none of you realise how amazing you were and still are.
‘It’s good to be back… Simon.’ The Spice Girls - who split in 2000 a year after Geri left - are planning to launch their comeback with a Christmas single called ‘Woman’, which follows an album of greatest hits, which hits the shelves November 5.

Ruby was in tears and the crown she was wearing went flying in the melee, and several glasses on the table were shattered.
‘Kimberley was eff-ing and blinding saying, ‘What the f**k is up with you? We were here first.'’ Natalie eventually managed to drag the boys away from the table. Milla Jovovich is expecting a little girl, it has been reported. The Ukrainian supermodel, who is pregnant with her first child, will give birth to a daughter in November, according to E! Online. Milla, 31, who has starred in movies including ‘The Fifth Element’ and ‘Resident Evil’, announced she was pregnant with her director fiancé Paul W.S. Anderson’s child earlier this year. The couple began dating in 2002, when Paul directed Milla in ‘Resident Evil’, based on the computer game of the same title. They announced their engagement the following year, but wedding plans were put on hold after Milla fell pregnant. Milla said: "We would love to get married, but maybe after the baby. The stars are among 115 people from the film industry who have been given the chance to join the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
Rising comedy star Steve Carell and 2007 Oscar-nominee Ryan Gosling have also been invited, along with ‘United 93′ director Paul Greengrass.
There are currently 6,000 members, with only 150 newcomers allowed each year.
Murphy’s invite follows his Oscar nomination for ‘Dreamgirls’, while Craig’s profile has risen with his much celebrated first outing as James Bond in ‘Casino Royale’.
The 80th Annual Academy Awards will be held on February 24, 2008.

The ‘Brothers and Sisters’ star has revealed she enjoyed taking a break from Hollywood to be with her son Liam, who she adopted in 2001.
Calista told Britain’s Daily Telegraph newspaper: ‘I took the last five years to step away from working. Motherhood changed every fibre of my being and I think I can honestly say it brought me as close as I’ve ever come to being really happy.’ The 42-year-old actress - who has been dating actor Harrison Ford for five years - also explained she is no longer the ‘workaholic’ she was in her ‘Ally McBeal’ days.
Calista said: ‘I used to be a workaholic and very ambitious. I don’t know why, but it’s all melted away. I have almost zero ambition. I want to do my work and then I just want to go home and be with my family. "I think I’m much more tolerant, and I’m probably not so focused on myself at all. Things that I used to think were important are just simply not important any more. I think in that way I’ve really changed.’

The band say manager Carl Stubner tarnished their image by advising the rocker to appear in reality TV shows ‘Tommy Lee Goes to College’ and ‘Rock Star: Supernova’.
They claim the "inane overtones" on ‘Tommy Lee Goes to College’ made him look "incoherent, lazy and incompetent".
According to court documents, the programme portrayed Tommy disrupting classes, arriving late for classes and allegedly flirting with his young tutor.
The band feel the show damaged the reputation Tommy had earned "through years of great effort and hard work with Mötley Crüe".
It has also been alleged Tommy’s participation in the shows interfered with the band’s 2005 tour and plans to record a new studio album, resulting in their annual revenue dropping to $19million in 2006.
The band say Stubner and his company, Sanctuary Management Group, concentrated on Tommy’s less-successful side projects and ignored the group’s commitments.
In the lawsuit, Mötley Crüe say: ‘Stubner’s motivation was greed. He has brazenly said as much. Stubner stated that he received significantly higher commissions on Tommy Lee’s solo projects because he did not have to share his take with the other managers." ‘He claimed that it was a ‘no brainer’ to prefer and promote Tommy’s projects over those of Mötley Crüe.’ The rockers are asking for more than $20 million in damages for breach of fiduciary duty and constructive fraud.
