The ‘American Idol’ winner parted ways with Jeff Kwatinetz, of management company The Firm, yesterday (12.06.07) but insists the decision was amicable.
She said: "I have been so fortunate to be supported by so many talented people in all corners of the music business. Those guys at The Firm did a good job and I really appreciate everything they did." Kelly was reportedly frustrated with the direction her management company was pushing her in.
A source told Us Weekly magazine: "They disagreed over the songs and the direction. Everyone is surprised but Kelly’s had enough." Kelly recently revealed her disappointment at the way her record label and management company had treated her.
She said: "I’ve sold more than 15 million records worldwide, and still nobody listens to what I have to say. Because I’m 25 and a woman." Kelly also confessed that she fell out with her team over a song they wanted her to sing on the charity special edition of ‘American Idol’.
She told America’s Elle magazine: ‘My label wanted me to sing ‘Never Again,’ and I was like, to promote yourself on a charity event is beyond crass. People are starving and dying and I’m up there singing some bitter pop song? "And believe me, everyone wanted me to sing it. Because they are jaded and they have no soul. Imagine sitting in a room full of people totally against you. Can’t they hear themselves speaking? Capitalise on AIDS? Are you kidding? Insulting an entire nation of people? I just refused.’
