WRIGHT’S SUPERSTITION LEADS TO CAMEOS
SHAUN OF THE DEAD co-writer EDGAR WRIGHT is so superstitious about his own films he makes cameo ’swaps’ with his fellow director pals as a good luck charm.
The English moviemaker insists he makes the effort to appear on-screen despite hating being in front of the camera - after friend Garth Jennings appeared in the 2004 zombie film. He returned the favour by playing the part of a Deep Thought Technician in Jennings’ adaptation of The Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Galaxy adaptation a year later (05), and both films went on to achieve U.K.
box office success.
He says, "I wouldn’t say I enjoy being in front of the camera.
"I did (spoof science show) Look Around You, which was fun. I appeared in Hitchhiker’s, and Garth Jennings had a cameo in Shaun Of The Dead playing a zombie. It’s become a superstitious thing with us now. We have to appear in each other’s movies or a plague on both our houses!"
