A secret video showing Britain’s Prince Harry cheering as wild animals are shot dead has been destroyed by police.
Royal aides were horrified the footage would be made public when the tape of Harry on a hunting trip during his gap year disappeared from a royal bodyguard’s car.
It was feared there would be public outcry at the sight of the prince jumping up and down with excitement as the animals were shot.
The missing tape was taken by a woman employed by Scotland Yard to sweep the royal car for bugs, but was retrieved by police who raided her home after a tip-off.
The woman claimed she had taken the tape, along with other surveillance equipment, to spy on neighbours who were harassing her. She was not charged, but has been sacked by the covert technical team she worked for, while the tape has been destroyed.
A spokesman for Scotland Yard told Britain’s News of the World newspaper: ‘She was bailed and a decision was later made to deal with the matter through the internal disciplinary process.
‘She is now appealing against her dismissal.’ Clarence House refused to comment on the tape, and it is not known where it was filmed. In November 2004, the prince was reported to have killed a buffalo and wild boar while on safari in Argentina. Harry was even pictured holding a gun next to one of the slain buffalo.
