Feminist icon GERMAINE GREER has lavished praise on heavyweight rocker BETH DITTO for having the courage to challenge conventions.
The Gossip frontwoman recently appeared topless on the cover of British music magazine NME and has stunned countless audiences in the past by disrobing to her underwear and urinating on stage.
But Greer insists the raunchy routines should be encouraged, because they send a positive message to her female fans.
She says, "Stripping has become part of her stage act; she is reputed to have exposed her hairy crotch to an adoring audience at the London venue Koko last year.
"Her intention is to force acceptance of her body type, five feet (1.52 metres) tall and 15 stone (95 kilogrammes), and by this strategy to challenge the conventional imagery of women." Greer is best known for her 1970 feminist work The Female Eunuch.

Rapper THE GAME has hinted his third album might be his last, insisting he has achieved all of his musical goals.
The Dreams star - real name Jayceon Taylor - rose to fame in 2005 following the success of his debut album, The Documentary, and has received two Grammy nominations.
His second album, Doctor’s Advocate, also shot straight to number one on both the United World Chart and the Billboard 200.
Despite his huge success however, the hip-hop star suggests it could soon be time to quit.
He tells AllHipHop.com, "I think three classic albums are good for me, you know? "I got my point across. I was a prominent figure on the West Coast and a bigger figure in hip-hop as a whole. I think I made my impact enough for my name to be said and remembered.
"Right now I’m taking a break from Hip-Hop and enjoying time with my family and my friends."

The 20-year-old actress was charged with DUI (driving under the influence) after she crashed her car on Saturday night (26.05.07) after partying at Los Angeles’ Les Deux club and the Sky Bar at the Mondrian hotel until around 5am.
The legal drinking age in the US is 21 and alcohol cannot be served in California after 2am, and police have now vowed to clamp down on law breakers.
John Carr, spokesman for the California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control, said: ‘We have a duty to check on these things whenever there’s a report of a minor involved in a crash. Underage drinking is a huge problem in the state of California.’ Lindsay – who turns 21 on July 2 - is a regular at all of Hollywood’s trendiest night spots including Les Deux, Teddy’s and Hyde.
Carr revealed an undercover investigation has been launched to determine whether the ‘Just My Luck’ star was served alcohol in any of the establishments she visited the weekend of the crash, and if she, or any of her friends, were served after hours.
Les Deux spokeswoman Marissa Knies insists Lindsay had dinner and didn’t drink.
Knies said: ‘Because of the enormous paparazzi presence outside of Les Deux that night, we allowed her to stay late and wait for her friends.’ A video shows Lindsay leaving at 3.30am.
Teddy’s at the Roosevelt Hotel paid a $3,000 fine on May 4 for accusations made last year that they sold contaminated beverages and sold alcohol after hours.
There is also an investigation pending against Club Mood, another popular hang out for Lindsay, Paris Hilton and other stars.
Meanwhile, Lindsay’s father has claimed his daughter suffers from multiple addictions, including a dependence on alcohol and the painkiller OxyContin.
Michael – who has served jail time for DUI and assault convictions dating back to 2005 – said: ‘I spoke to the people treating Lindsay, because I wanted to make sure she was getting the right care. And I’m satisfied they are doing the right thing for her, helping her detox from the painkillers and other things. That’s a very important step.’ Lindsay checked into Malibu’s Promises rehab centre on Monday (28.05.07) where she is set to stay for a month of intensive treatment.

Jennifer Aniston will not write a tell-all book about her failed marriage to Brad Pitt. The actress has denied claims she is set to pen a candid book about her and Brad’s four year union.
Jennifer’s representative told Usmagazine.com: "Jennifer has no plans to write a book. She is not looking to write a tell-all. She has no interest in it." The statement follows reports contained in the latest issue of America’s Star magazine, which alleged Jennifer was set to sign a $5 million deal to spill the beans. A source was quoted as saying: "Jennifer is finally ready to pour her heart out and reveal the intimate details of her charmed but troubled life in an explosive tell-all book." The former ‘Friends’ star separated from Brad in January 2005, shortly before he began a relationship with his ‘Mr. and Mrs. Smith’ co-star Angelina Jolie.
Their divorce was finalised in October 2005, but Jennifer has refused to divulge any intimate details about their relationship, despite huge media interest. Last year, it was alleged the 38-year-old actress intended to pen the explosive tome "to get back at Brad for his romance with Angelina".

The ‘American Idol’ judge told a group of publicists during a conference call she was tired of the terrible treatment she received at the hands of Howard Bragman - who mysteriously stopped working for Paula earlier this month.
According to the New York Post newspaper, she said: ‘I’ve never been treated this way and I’ve never seen anybody treated this way. This is just too much to stomach.
‘All I’ve ever wanted in my life is to be treated fairly and be treated with kindness. The people who are supposed to take care of these things do not. I have to clean up after them everywhere they go. And I’m tired of it.’ Paula also complained that Howard had called her a ‘whining b***h’.
She said: ‘I don’t understand how this man can call me a whining b***h. I’ve never in my life been called a whining b***h and a loser.’ The 44-year-old singer also sobbed that her former publicist - who she claims told her she was ‘too old’ to do cover shoots - left her to go on the ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live!’ chat show earlier this month on her own.
She said: ‘Howard Bragman - he did some disgusting behaviour. I had to go to Jimmy Kimmel with no publicist there. Fans of the ‘Purple Rain’ singer can purchase the Ultimate Prince Xperience package – which includes a ticket to the private show on the eighth floor of Macy’s downtown store, a ticket to Prince’s performance at the Target Centre that evening and one bottle of his 3121 perfume.
The Xperience costs $250, plus service fees and taxes and will be available to 1,400 lucky fans.
The tickets go on sale at Macy’s Minneapolis tomorrow (01.06.07).
The women’s fragrance is named after Prince’s new album ‘3121′, and according to his publicist it will be ‘Xquisite, Mysterious, Xotic’ and will smell like a ‘kaleidoscope of rich florals’.
Prince’s fragrance will be available to buy on July 7, the same date as the hotly anticipated global ‘Live Earth’ charity concerts.
The shows are taking place in nine cities across the globe, including London, Tokyo and Rio de Janeiro, and Prince is rumoured to be headlining one.
The 48-year-old is the latest in a long line of stars to bring out their own signature scent.

The documents were found in an unsecured container behind royal offices in The Hague by reporters for Dutch current affairs TV show NOVA.
An episode of the show which aired on Tuesday (29.05.07) reported the journalists found bags full of official documents, business cards with home addresses and information about heir to the throne Crown Prince Willem-Alexander and his wife Maxima.
They also found a list of scheduled overseas state visits for Queen Beatrix up until 2010, as well details of foreign heads of state planning to visit the Netherlands.
The discovery suggests that the 69-year-old royal will remain on the throne for at least the next few years, despite suggestions in the media that she plans to abdicate. However, the government press office insists the visits were being organised for the head of state at the time, which does not necessarily mean the queen as it could refer to her successor if she chooses to abdicate.
A member of parliament told NOVA it was ‘perplexing and embarrassing’ how carelessly the documents were handled.
Prime Minister Jan Peter Balkenende said immediate measures had been taken to improve security and avoid it happening again.
Although NOVA reported details of the planned state visits, the programme said it would not publish all the details contained in the documents for security reasons.

The prince looked dashing in his naval uniform as he boarded the yacht, carrying his two-year-old son, Christian, while his wife Crown Princess Mary followed with their one-month old daughter.
The family were joined at Copenhagen’s Langeline port by Frederik’s mother Queen Margrethe, her husband Prince Henrik and the family’s border collie, Ziggy.
Although it was the first time at sea for Frederik’s baby daughter - who will officially be named during her baptism ceremony on July 1 - the young royal appeared to be quite at ease clearly inheriting her parents’ love of sailing.
Earlier this year, skilled yachtsman Frederik took part in Florida’s Key West Regatta.
The prince took a break from his royal duties to skipper his Farr 40 NANOQ yacht in the event.
Frederik and his team mates kicked-off their campaign by coming ninth out of 17 boats in their first race.

Channel 4’s ‘Queen Camilla’ claims the duchess was unable to marry her boyfriend Britain’s Prince Charles in the late 60s as she was not a virgin.
The film - to be broadcast at 9pm - reports Camilla lost her virginity at the age of 17 at her debutante ball in 1965.
Charles went on to marry the late Princess Diana in 1981 but it is alleged he continued to have an affair with Camilla throughout his marriage - which ended in divorce in August 1996.
Camilla’s great-grandmother, Alice Keppel, was allegedly the mistress of Britain’s King Edward VII.
Windsor-family expert Gyles Brandreth says of Camilla in the documentary: ‘She comes from a family that has, in the best sense of the word, been servicing royalty for many generations.’ Channel 4 have already upset the royal family by planning to broadcast another controversial documentary showing footage of Diana being treated by paramedics at the scene of the fatal Paris car crash which claimed her life in 1997.
John Beyer of Mediawatch UK, which campaigns for standards in the media, told Britain’s Daily Mail newspaper ‘Queen Camilla’ appeared ‘very intrusive’. He said: ‘It seems to me that one can accuse Channel 4 of muck-raking.

Camilla - the wife of Britain’s Prince Charles, who is a vocal critic of fast food - happily tucked into her complimentary meal of haddock and chips after finishing an official engagement in the Scottish fishing village of Anstruther.
The duchess, who earlier visited a lifeboat station with husband Charles, instructed her police bodyguard to pop into the fish and chip shop to pick up the hot dish, because she needed warming up in the rainy weather. The manager of the Anstruther Fish Bar, Alison Smith, told Britain’s Daily Express newspaper: ‘The policeman came running in and asked: ‘Can you do a quick takeaway? I’m not joking. I really need this in about one minute’.
‘He explained it was for the duchess but we knew it was her because there was a big crowd outside. We didn’t charge her. It was with our compliments. We are really honoured.’ Camilla waited until her husband - who is a member of the Slow Food Movement - had left for a solo engagement before stopping at the fish bar.
The duchess is thought to have heard about the Anstruther fish and chip shop from her food writer son Tom Parker Bowles.
He met the owners when they came second in the UK chip shop of the year awards in January and he was one of the judges.
She was not the first royal to taste the delights of the fish shop.
When Prince William was a student at nearby St Andrews University, he was a regular visitor.

British pop star LILY ALLEN has bought her dream house in London - after flying back from the U.S. for just two days to seal the deal.
The singer has revealed her purchase on her blog. Once the paperwork goes through - Allen will be able to move out of the north London home she shares with her mother Alison Owen and brother Alfie.
The 22 year old writes, "I’ve been trying to find a place to live for a while and I’ve been spending all my mortgage money on handbags and shoes that I can’t afford. While I love handbags and shoes, I think it’s more important to have a place to call home.
"I frantically went and looked around some places with my sister Sarah as she’s been researching places for the past few weeks. We found a house in Hackney that I fell in love with immediately. I put an offer in and it got declined.
"Anyway they finally accepted my offer and it’s amazing and I’m so happy, I really feel like I’ve earned it, I’ve worked so f**king hard, I’ve laughed, I’ve cried, I’ve had awful hangovers, I’ve had a number one, I’ve been snubbed at awards ceremonies, and I’ve got amazing fans who write lovely things to me when I’m feeling low. Hollywood actor PIERCE BROSNAN and his wife KEELY have donated $100,000 (£50,000) to a school close to their home on the Hawaiian island of Kauai.
The couple gave the money to charity Hawaii 3R’s which will replace an unsafe playground at an elementary school in Kauai.
The former James Bond actor says, "We were disheartened that the playground equipment was condemned for so long, and we wanted to find a way to help.
"We believe that play activities enhance children’s educational experiences, and these children were missing out."
