SPEARS DELAYS LA FLIGHT

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 6:16 pm

BRITNEY SPEARS recently stormed off a busy jet plane, delaying the flight for almost one hour - because the aircraft’s seats were not made of leather.
The pop superstar’s refusal to sit in her allocated seat left hordes of angry passengers fuming on the flight from Los Angeles to Florida earlier this week (begs14May07), and the plane was delayed even further when she demanded to be let off the aircraft at the last minute.
Fellow passenger Tony Sanchez tells British newspaper The News Of The World, "The plane was about to taxi to the runway when Britney got up. She said, ‘I don’t want to fly on this plane - it hasn’t got leather seats.’ "Then there was further delay as her bags had to be found and taken off."

WILLIS DENIES HOSTESS’ TRYST CLAIMS

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 6:16 pm

BRUCE WILLIS has denied ever having any involvement with a former nightclub hostess, who is accused of murdering her husband for his £6 million ($12 million) fortune.
The Die Hard star has been summoned to court, along with fellow actor George Clooney and former tennis star Bjorn Borg, to appear at the trial of Jamila M’Barek.
M’Barek has been charged with the 2004 murder of British aristocrat, Anthony Ashley-Cooper, but will attempt to prove her innocence by showing she didn’t need to kill him for his money, because she was already a millionaire in her own right.
She claims to have been a well-connected socialite with a string of famous lovers including Willis, Clooney and Borg, before she married Ashley-Cooper in 2002.
M’Barek’s lawyer Franck de Vita says, "She had intimate relations with Clooney and Willis… Jamila was quite used to mixing with wealthy men.
"There were other celebrities, but they were married and have done everything they can to keep their relationships a secret." But Willis’ publicist has refuted the claims, telling British newspaper The Mail On Sunday, "I don’t know of her. I’ve never heard that name before." None of the stars are expected to show in the French court when the trial continues on Monday (21May07), and the court has no powers to force them to appear on the stand.
A verdict on M’Barek’s case is expected by the end of the week (ends25May07).

FRANCIS HITS BACK AT SPELLING’S CRITICISM

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 6:16 pm

Fallen Girls Gone Wild creator JOE FRANCIS has hit back at TORI SPELLING’s mother CANDY, branding her a "lonely old woman" for the remarks she made yesterday (19May07) about his handling of life behind bars.
Francis was recently (begs14May07) moved from his Florida jail cell - where he was serving time for contempt of court - to Nevada to face charges of evading $20 million (£10 million) in taxes between 2002 and 2003.
In an open letter to Francis which was posted on TMZ.com, Spelling blasted the jailed 34-year-old for crying about his sentence, calling upon him to act with dignity instead of portraying himself as a victim of the U.S. legal system.
But Francis has now responded to Spelling with his own open letter - dictated to spokesman Ronn D. Torossian from a prison phone - in which he accuses her of commenting on a case she "knows nothing" about.
He writes on TMZ.com, "After reading your letter posted on the internet, my mental picture of you is of a lonely old woman living in a mansion in Holmby Hills with let’s say 300 cats jumping around, some in their own feces (sic).
"Candy, you don’t know any of the facts concerning my situation. I am a hardworking, compassionate and honest person. This whole situation will be over soon and I will be standing strong. I have never played a victim but I have always been a fighter.
"I will ultimately prevail in the matters at hand but I am concerned that you will die a lonely and unfulfilled person playing with those cats and posting open letters to people you have never met on the internet." Francis is currently awaiting trial for the tax evasion charges. He is expected to return to Florida after the case is finished to face a further misdemeanour charge for sexual battery, relating to an incident in January (07).

DiCAPRIO WARNS OF CLIMATE CHANGE DISASTER

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 6:13 pm

Actor LEONARDO DiCAPRIO has warned the world to act on climate change now, before it is too late.
Speaking at the premiere of his documentary The 11th Hour at the Cannes Film Festival yesterday (19May07), the Departed star stressed the urgency of the global warming situation, and urged people around the globe to take action now.
Directed by sisters Leila Conners Petersen and Nadia Conners, and narrated by DiCaprio, The 11th Hour looks at the state of the environment and explores what people can do to stop Earth’s rapid deterioration.
And the actor hopes documenting the problem on film will help to influence people’s opinions, just like the former U.S. vice president Al Gore did on 2006’s An Inconvenient Truth.
DiCaprio says, "Global warming is a reality. It is happening. In the last year, people are taking this issue more seriously than they ever have, and it’s a direct result of affecting people’s emotions in a cinematic format.
"I wanted to give (the scientific believers) a way of not being challenged about whether the science is correct or whether their opinions were valid. It was about them being able to express ideas and being able to give us, the public, solutions for the future.
"(The United States is) the largest superpower in the world. We’re are also the largest polluters. It’s ultimately us as the largest democracy in the world to be the ones to set an example… If we don’t do it, how is the rest of the world supposed to follow?"

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 6:10 pm

ANGELINA JOLIE struggled to play her pal Mariane Pearl in new movie A Mighty Heart - because she worried the French writer would hate her portrayal.
The actress befriended murdered journalist Daniel Pearl’s widow long before she decided to play her on the big screen and feared she’d turn her pal against her when she took on the role.
Jolie reveals, "I was so nervous. I mean, it’s like you’re in roomful of your closest friends and somebody says, ‘Why don’t you get up and imitate the friend to your left?’" In a new Glamour magazine interview with both Jolie and Pearl, the actress admits, "I tried to get you right - your hair and that accent that changes all the time." Jolie adds, "Much more than how Mariane looks or acts, I wanted to express her essence. I’ve come to respect her so much."

WASHINGTON WILL RETURN TO GREY’S ANATOMY

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 6:10 pm

ISAIAH WASHINGTON has dismissed reports he is to be axed from hit U.S. TV show GREY’S ANATOMY, after his character was seen packing his bags at the end of season three.
Washington’s future on the popular medical drama has been in doubt following the controversy surrounding a homophobic remark he made about castmate T.R.
Knight last October (06) - a comment he repeated at the Golden Globe Awards earlier this year (07).
But the actor, who plays Dr Preston Burke on the show, says he expects to return to the set when filming for the next season begins in August (07).
His publicist Howard Bragman says, "We fully expect to be back in the fall.
The deal’s not done but we have no reason to believe he won’t be putting on the scrubs." And a source close to the production admitted Dr. Burke’s exit on the season finale doesn’t mean he won’t return to Seattle Grace Hospital.
The source says, "A lot of character story lines were left in question. It’s a cliffhanger finale.
"T.R.’s character looks like he could be going… It doesn’t necessarily mean anything."

TRUMP QUITS THE APPRENTICE

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 6:07 pm

Property tycoon DONALD TRUMP has quit his reality TV show THE APPRENTICE after the programme was left off of U.S. broadcaster NBC’s new primetime schedule.

The 60-year-old issued a statement on Friday (18May07) saying he was "moving on" from the corporate-themed show to work on "a major new TV venture", but refused to reveal further details.
The Apprentice debuted on American television in 2004 with 21 million viewers, but viewing figures dropped significantly in the five seasons which followed.
The format of The Apprentice has since been replicated in a number of countries around the world, including the U.K., South Africa and Brazil.

MOORE: ‘U.S. INVESTIGATION TIMING IS INSANE’

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 6:07 pm

Filmmaker MICHAEL MOORE is baffled by the timing of a U.S. federal investigation into his trip to Cuba for new movie SICKO, because the government knew about his plans to travel to the Caribbean island last year (06).
Last week (ends11May07), Moore received a letter from The Treasury Department’s Office Of Foreign Assets Control, notifying him that it was conducting a civil investigation for possible violations of the trade embargo restricting travel to Cuba.
The Oscar-winner’s latest documentary is an expose on the U.S. health care system and allegedly features a segment where Moore takes a group of former Ground Zero relief workers on a trip to Cuba.
Communist Cuba is under a trade embargo from the U.S. and most Americans are banned from travelling to the Caribbean island.
But Moore can’t understand why the government only decided to take action earlier this month, because all it has done is raise the profile of the movie ahead of its planned U.S. release on 29 June (07).
Speaking at the Cannes Film Festival yesterday (19May07), he says, "The point was to go to Cuba on American soil and give the 9/11 rescue workers the same healthcare that Al-Qaida detainees receive. It’s an insane thing. They’ve known about my desire to go (to Cuba) since last October."

JOHN MAYER struck gold when BEN FOLDS agreed to tour with him this summer (07) - because the pop pianist is the man the guitarist credits for kickstarting his career.

The guitarist explains, "I’m just a huge Ben Folds fan, and Ben Folds Five was kind of a catalyst for me going from a guitar player to a songwriter.
"Those first two records are just stunning, and when I was kind of thirsting for lyrical information, it just filled me in. I’m such a huge fan.
"I was kind of selfish and wanted to hear Ben Folds play all summer."

50 CENT: ‘RAP LYRICS REFLECT HARSH REALITIES OF LIFE’

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 6:04 pm

50 CENT is refusing to give in to critics calling for rappers to clean up their lyrics, insisting expletives used in the music are simply reflective of the "harsh realities" of life.
Hip-hop stars have come under attack for their regular use of words like ‘n**ger’, ‘ho’ and ‘bitch’, particularly after the Don Imus controversy last month (Apr07), where the American DJ referred to a female basketball team as "nappy headed hoes".
But 50 - real name Curtis Jackson - has vowed never to bow to the pressure of critics, because they can’t relate to the hardship most rappers have had to deal with in their youths.
He says, "Music is a mirror, and hip-hop is a reflection of the environment that we grew up in. It’s the harsh realities that end up in the music.
"If I ask you to paint a picture of the American flag and not use the colour red, you’re gonna have a difficult time.
"To capture what we try to capture in the art form, I’m sure some conservative Americans can’t (identify) with it because of their lifestyle and the way they’ve actually been brought up, and they haven’t been exposed to those realities." And the Candy Shop hitmaker took the opportunity to poke fun at Master P, who has chosen to stop using racist and sexist language in his music.
He adds, "Well Master P doesn’t sell CDs anymore. You can tell him I said it."

GUZMAN SUED FOR BREACH OF CONTRACT

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 6:04 pm

Mexican rocker ALEJANDRA GUZMAN is facing a $500,000 (£250,000) lawsuit from a U.S. concert promoter, alleging breach of contract for cancelling a forthcoming gig.
The Latin Grammy winner was scheduled to play at the Pico Rivera Sports Arena in California on 16 June (07), but according to her promoter Julio G. Esparza of Esparza Entertainment, she decided to pull out of the concert last week (15May07).
In the lawsuit filed in the Los Angeles County Superior Court on Friday (18May07), American firm Regional Music Inc. alleges it put down a $28,650 (£14,325) deposit with Esparza to seal the concert deal.
The papers claim the company spent $120,000 (£60,000) in advertising, tickets, accommodation and other expenses for the star.
They are also still in debt to the arena’s owners, after renting the venue for Guzman’s performance.
Regional Music Inc. is suing Guzman and Esparza Entertainment for breach of contract, fraud and unjust enrichment.

THE WHO FRONTMAN ATTACKS LIVE EARTH GIGS

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 6:01 pm

THE WHO rocker ROGER DALTREY has blasted this summer’s (07) series of Live Earth concerts across the globe, branding them ‘un-environmental’ for the amount of air pollution flying the stars in for the gigs will cause.
The singer believes the amount of fuel needed to put on the concert contradicts the whole reason the event is being held in the first place - to raise awareness about climate change.
He says, "The last thing the planet needs is a rock concert… I can’t believe it. Let’s burn even more fuel. We have problems with global warming, but the questions and the answers are so huge I don’t know what a rock concert’s ever going to do to help.
"My answer is to burn all the f**king oil as quick as possible and then the politicians will have to find a solution." The veteran rocker was also quick to slam Bob Geldof’s Live8 gigs, adding, "What did we really achieve at Live 8? We got loads of platitudes and no action. Who were we kidding there? "At least with Live Aid, Bob Geldof was willing to work the trenches and they did save a lot of lives. We could see what we achieved at the end of it."

TURNER COMPLAINS ABOUT ‘ILL TREATMENT’ BY POLICE

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 6:01 pm

LATEST: Soul star IKE TURNER has hit out at the Los Angeles Police Department for the "ill treatment" he received after he was wrongly arrested last Tuesday (15May07).
The singer was pulled over by cops in a traffic stop last week and taken into custody when officers discovered he had an outstanding felony drugs warrant dating back 12 years.
The 75-year-old was forced to spend the night in a cell at Los Angeles’ Twin Towers Jail, and it wasn’t until the following morning (16May07) that authorities realised the warrant had been recalled in 1989.
But while Turner recently (17May07) said he was not angry about the arrest, he has complained about the condition of the cell he was forced to spend the night in.
His manager Phillip Arnold tells TMZ.com, "Ike was in a private holding cell, about 4×4 ft., with a bench only, and without a bunk or blankets.
"He passed out from exhaustion several times, and fell off the bench onto the cement floor, sustaining a minor injury to his leg. He was also denied regular access to the restroom facilities while in custody, a matter of extreme discomfort to a person of his age." Turner adds, "I am pretty strong for 75, but not everyone my age could have survived that ill treatment. I have to send a message to them, for the sake of the little guy no one will listen to. The next elderly inmate might not survive."

COMBS: ‘ALLEGATIONS OF CHAIR ASSAULT ARE FALSE’

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 6:01 pm

Rap mogul SEAN ‘DIDDY’ COMBS has dismissed a complaint by his former choreographer accusing him of assault, insisting her claims are "false".
LAURIE ANN GIBSON, who appeared on Combs’ MTV reality show Making The Band, recently filed an official complaint with the New York Police Department (NYPD) after the hip-hop star allegedly threw a chair at her during filming for the programme on 25 April (07).
Gibson told authorities she had gotten into a heated argument with Combs and guest judge Michael Bivins over the performance of the latest group of pop wannabes last month, when she was restrained by Bivens and threatened with a chair by the rapper.
She says she managed to break free from Biven’s grasp and left the venue in Greenwich Village, New York, shortly after.
But Combs has rejected Gibson’s claims and dismisses her accusations as an attempt to "take advantage" of his fame.
His lawyer Benjamin Brafman tells the New York Daily News, "This is just another example of a false accusation by someone trying to take advantage of Sean’s success and celebrity status." A spokesman for the NYPD confirmed a complaint had been made on 11 May (07), but no criminal activity had been found.
