China wall walk
A UK couple have become the first people to walk the entire length of the Great Wall of China unaided.
Katie Cooper and Tarka L’Herpiniere trekked nearly 3,000 miles, walking up to 30 miles a day, and braving temperatures ranging 104F to minus 31F.
Katie - a professional model - almost died during the six-month charity expedition, which finished at the North Korean border, when she collapsed with gastroenteritis.
Tarka, who runs an expedition company, said: "As a model she’s always perceived as a blonde, useless bimbo who loves her make-up and high heels.
"But she wanted to prove there was a bit more substance to her. She left her make-up at home, though she did carry a nail file, tweezers and some face cream." The couple are now recuperating at their Devon home.
