Movie star DON CHEADLE has hit out at reports he ’stole’ a New York cab from the woman who had flagged it down in the pouring rain last week (01May07).
Gisela Delgado, 26, was leaving an event at Soho House in the city with her uncle when the Hotel Rwanda star allegedly pushed in front of her with a group of pals.
Delgado tells Page Six, "I stood in the middle of the street and hailed a cab (but) five people jump out of nowhere and get in! My uncle said, ‘Hey, my niece flagged the cab down,’ and this guy says, ‘No man, this is our cab.’ "I realised it was Don Cheadle and I said, ‘I am going to tell Page Six’ and he just laughed and shook my hand." However, a spokesperson for the actor insists, "Both parties were hailing cabs just a few feet away from each other. The cab stopped closer to Don and his friend."

Scottish actor ROBERT CARLYLE will quit making movies within five years so he can spend more time with his children.
The Trainspotting star and father-of-three struggles being away from his wife Anastasia and their kids while shooting movies and plans to quit the industry by 2012.
He says, "I hate it. I am getting worse at it. It is difficult but you have to go where the work is. I’d like to be in a situation where I can say, ‘f**k this’.
"I am in a lucky position where I can do that, so why don’t I? It is work ethic, isn’t it? You feel you have to keep going in some way."

Moviemaker SPIKE LEE has furiously defended his acclaimed film MALCOLM X from charges it inspired a US terrorist.
John Walker Lindh, captured by American forces while fighting for the Taliban during the 2001 invasion of Afghanistan, is thought to have converted to Islam after watching the 1992 movie.
But while Lee concedes this could be true, he denies the biopic of the African-American activist lured Lindh towards the Taliban.
Receiving an award at the San Francisco Film Festival last week (03May07), Lee argued, "He was inspired to become a Muslim by the film, not to become a terrorist." At the same dinner, Lindh’s lawyer James Brosnahan confirmed his client was impressed by a scene in the film showing all Muslims are equal under the religion.
Lindh was jailed for 20 years under a plea deal in 2002.

TV mogul CHRIS ALBRECHT has been arrested on suspicion of assaulting his girlfriend in the early hours of yesterday morning. (06May07).
The chairman and chief executive of American TV network HBO allegedly assaulted the woman outside the MGM Grand Casino in Las Vegas hours after watching Saturday night’s (05May07) fight between Oscar De La Hoya and Floyd Mayweather Jr.
Police spokesman Officer Bill Cassell tells the Los Angeles Times, "Some of our guys observed a domestic dispute between him and his girlfriend. It was a physical confrontation." Albrecht was booked into the Clark County Detention Center and held on suspicion of a misdemeanour battery-domestic assault, but was later released.

LATEST: TRAVIS have defended their Scottish colleague PAOLO NUTINI from reports he was drunk during a recent gig, insisting he’s entitled to "have fun".
The New Shoes star performed at the Oasis Centre in Swindon, England, last month (23Apr07) but left fans angry and bitterly disappointed when he mumbled songs.
Onlookers believe Nutini got carried away celebrating his favourite soccer team’s success, as Celtic Football Club had won the Scottish Premier League a day earlier (22Apr07), and blamed the singer for being "unprofessional".
But Travis guitarist Andy Dunlop urges fans to go easy on the singer. He says, "The guy’s 20, he’s in a band and his team won the league. What do you expect? "He’s young and he’s having fun. That’s what it’s all about. People should get off his back and let him get on with doing what he does best." Nutini has blamed his "strong Scottish accent" for fans’ failure to understand him during the gig but Dunlop is adamant that, even if the excuse isn’t believed, Nutini’s reputation won’t be damaged by the incident.
He adds, "At least people are talking about him, keeping him in the public eye. It’s all good at the end of the day."

THE KOOKS have slammed fellow British rockers ARCTIC MONKEYS for failing to acknowledge them at industry events.
The Naive hitmakers often appear on the same stage as the Arctic Monkeys, but The Kooks frontman Luke Pritchard reveals the band are usually rude.
He says, "It’s getting tiresome. We’ve met them loads of times but every time they act as if they don’t even recognise us. I don’t get it."

Senegalese singer YOUSSOU NDOUR has vowed to use his fame to highlight the plight of people in war-ravaged Sudan.
The star, branded among the 100 most influential people in the world by Time magazine, is planning to mobilise African artists to draw attention to the desperate situation in Darfur, western Sudan.
His spokesman Malick Mbaye says, "Youssou Ndour will take the initiative to mobilise the entire African artistic community around the Darfur question.
"As an artist and opinion leader (Ndour believes he has) a role to play for all African peoples, especially those in difficulty." Ndour boasts 20 albums and several high-profile collaborations with international stars including Peter Gabriel and Neneh Cherry.

Australian rockers POWDERFINGER have been given legal clearance to proceed with a controversial song about Aboriginal deaths in custody after changing the lyrics.
Queensland Attorney-General Kerry Shine ruled today (07May07) that altered lyrics to the song Black Tears were no cause for legal concern.
The case arose after lawyers for a former Queensland policeman, charged with the manslaughter and assault of a prisoner in his care, feared the track could prejudice his trial next month (Jun07).
They had planned to lodge a complaint about the original lyrics of Black Tears with Shine before the song’s release date - also next month.
However, after amending their lyrics last week (ends04May07), the rockers have escaped court proceedings.
A statement from the Attorney-General’s office says, "Lawyers for Powderfinger sent Mr Shine a copy of the lyrics on Friday. Crown Law has examined the lyrics. Crown Law have advised Mr Shine’s office the lyrics raise no legal concern."

Rapper XZIBIT has lost his driving license and been ordered to pay a fine after he was caught speeding during The Gumball 3000 Rally in The Netherlands.
The Pimp My Ride host was stopped by police while driving at 100 miles (161 kilometres) per hour in a 60 miles (96 kilometres) per hour speedzone during the rally on 29 April (07).
After paying the fine Xzibit’s teammate, hip-hop producer Fredwreck, assumed driving duties in the rapper’s Lamborghini Gallardo.
A source tells AllHipHop.com, "All of the sponsors, including Adidas, who sponsored Xzibit, basically dropped out after that." The Gumball 3000 is an annual 3000 mile (4828 kilometre) international tour that occurs on public roads, usually in Europe. Over 70 drivers were cited for speeding as the procession raced through Germany.

Rapper FABOLOUS has been linked to a shooting incident after a man was gunned down in a parking lot outside his scheduled performance on Saturday (05May07).
The Into You star, real name John Jackson, was reportedly performing live at the Friar Tuck Resort in Catskills, New York when an argument on the dancefloor escalated into gunshots outside.
A source tells AllHipHop.com an unidentified man is being treated at a local hospital.
State Police closed off the resort’s Palace Theatre to collect evidence and interview the wounded witnesses still there yesterday afternoon (06May07).
It’s not clear if Fabolous had showed up - or was even due to perform - at the gig.

Scots rockers THE FRATELLIS have blasted LILY ALLEN’s recent cancellation of her US tour, despite pulling their own gigs for the same reason "exhaustion".
Smile singer Allen claimed she was too tired and missed her family back in London during her US tour last month (Apr07), weeks before The Fratellis cancelled a series of Stateside gigs, also citing exhaustion.
Bassist Barry Wallace says, "She’s a snobby f**king brat. It’s Keith Allen’s daughter so what can you expect.
"I’ve never properly met here but when we were going up to collect our Brit (Award), she shouted, ‘You’re a robbing s**t’ to John (Lawler - frontman), saying we had robbed the award from her. I’ve no time for the girl.

JOSS STONE, JOHN LEGEND and HARRY CONNICK JR have given a supportive hand to the rejuvenation of grief-stricken New Orleans, Louisiana, following 2005’s Hurricane Katrina.
The musicians - who were in the American city to perform at its Jazz Festival - have taken time off from performing to aid in the area’s rebuilding.
Legend and Connick Jr kicked off the proceedings on Sunday (06May07) by washing clothes at a laundromat and painting a house respectively.
Stone will promote voluntary work later today (07May07).

Former couple CAMERON DIAZ and JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE came face-to-face with each other at the world premiere of SHREK THE THIRD in Los Angeles on Sunday (06May07).
Diaz, who plays Princess Fiona in all three Shrek movies, landed her ex a role in the third installment in the animated hit while they were still dating.
While the exes managed a red carpet collision at Mann Village Theatre, they welcomed each other with a hug and a kiss at the cast photos later on.
The couple split in January (07) after nearly four years together.

US TV veteran LARRY KING has expressed his sadness at socialite PARIS HILTON’s jail sentencing, but declares there is "no excuse for drink driving".
The reality TV star and hotel heiress has been sentenced to 45 days behind bars after violating her probation following an alcohol-related arrest last year (06).
CNN presenter King says, "I think it’s sad. But there’s no excuse for drunk driving. None. You can’t give me one good reason to drunk drive. Inexcusable."

The German beauty broke into acting in 2002 after a career as a teen model and has enjoyed movie success in National Treasure, Wicker Park and Troy.
But Kruger admits she still gets worried about not being taken seriously.

The sister of murder victim RON GOLDMAN is frustrated by people romantically linking her late brother to OJ SIMPSON’s ex-wife, because they never dated.
The former American footballer was acquitted in 1995 of the 1994 murders of Goldman and ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson, but a civil jury later found him responsible for their deaths and he was subsequently ordered to pay $33.5 million (£17 million) to their families.
Ron Goldman was taking a pair of glasses that Simpson had left at a restaurant he was working at to her Brentwood, California house and was killed when he arrived.
But Kim Goldman is getting sick of reports mistaking Goldman and Brown Simpson’s relationship as anything but platonic.
She says, "Contrary to newspaper reports, Nicole and Ron were not dating - I know this because Ron always told me who he was dating. It still irritates me when the press call him ‘her boyfriend’ or ‘her friend’ as it seems to diminish him’.

Troubled star DAVID HASSELHOFF turned to drinking in a bid to overcome "anxiety and loneliness".
The former Baywatch actor admits in his forthcoming autobiography, Don’t Hassel The Hoff, his addiction to alcohol started in the 1970s when he was starring in US soap opera The Young And The Restless.
He writes, "Beer and tequila and scotch were my thing in the clubs. I’d wake up across town with someone and think, ‘Uh-oh, I’ve got to go to work.’" Hasselhoff admits he hit the bottle heavily in between Knight Rider and Baywatch, when he was struggling to find work.
In 2002, Hasselhoff fled the Californian rehabilitation center the Betty Ford Clinic, wearing only "sweatpants, tank top and tennis shoes but no wallet".
He checked into a Marriott hotel and "once inside, I sat down at the desk, switched on the TV, and proceeded to have a few drinks from the minibar… I told myself I’d go back to Betty Ford in the morning, but first I needed another shot of tequila".
Hasselhoff hit the headlines last week (ends04May07) when a video filmed by his teenage daughter Taylor was leaked online, showing the actor drunk.
