Veggie gladiators

Posted in: Bizzare Stories — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:19 pm

The majority of Roman gladiators were vegetarians.
The fearsome warriors maintained their muscular build with a diet of barley beans and a special drink made from ash and vinegar, according to a recent study.
Austrian scientists Dr Fabian Kanz and Professor Karl Grosschmidt made the discovery when they found a mass grave of 70 gladiators in Turkey.
The scientists measured the levels of strontium in the bodies, which told them how much vegetable matter was consumed in a lifetime.
It is thought the gladiators ate a vast amount of greens because they have properties to help heal wounds quickly.
