The head of the British Army announced yesterday (30.04.07) that despite increased fears for his safety, the 22-year-old prince would be deployed to the war-torn country as a reconnaissance troop leader with A Squadron of the Blues and Royals.
General Sir Richard Danat confirmed that Harry will fulfil all the responsibilities of commanding a troop of 11 soldiers, equipped with four Scimitar armoured reconnaissance vehicles.
The prince’s role will see him patrolling the country’s southern border with Iran in the Mayan Province, where two soldiers were killed last month in a roadside bomb.
It was originally decided Harry would go to Iraq in February, but the decision has been under constant scrutiny and review.
General Danat said he will continue to monitor the security conditions in Iraq during Harry’s six-month tour.
Insurgents in Iraq have made threats against the young prince, but Army chiefs came to the conclusion that threats had been made against all troops, and that nowhere under British responsibility in southern Iraq could be considered safe regardless of their decision.
Harry will go to Iraq some time this month, but the timing of his arrival is to be kept secret.
The prince, who has been training with his unit in Salisbury Plain in recent weeks, had made it clear he would be ‘very disappointed’ if he was not allowed to serve in Iraq.
Britain’s Prince William’s ex-girlfriend Kate Middleton is considering moving to the US.
The 25-year-old brunette is thinking of leaving the UK and taking a fashion PR job in New York, following her very public break-up from the prince earlier this month.
A source told New York Daily News: ‘Kate has been offered a job as a PR coordinator for fashion mogul Tom Ford and she is considering it.
‘It would be a great experience for her and she’d be based in Manhattan.’ Kate has been working in London as an accessories buyer for British clothing chain Jigsaw since last November.
She graduated from the University of St Andrews - where she met the prince while sharing a student house with him - in 2005 with a 2:1 History of Art Degree.
Kate did plan to set up her own children’s clothing mail order company but had to put the business venture on hold when a key investor pulled out in early 2006. Kate and William decided to go their separate ways during a skiing holiday together.
It has been reported that the 24-year-old prince felt to young marry, while Kate was keen to settle down.

The royal couple’s second daughter, who they have named Sofia, was born on Sunday (29.04.07) at Madrid’s Ruber International Clinic by Caesarean section, weighing a healthy 7lbs 5oz.
The new princess, who is third in line to the throne after her father and one-year-old sister Leonor, is named after her grandmother Queen Sofia.
Speaking outside the hospital, Felipe said: ‘We are very happy. I truly didn’t know how I was going to react to the birth of another baby girl, but I think that one loves each child the same.’ He added that he had been a little nervous during the birth but mother and baby are both doing well.
Felipe married Letizia - a former TV anchorwoman - in a lavish ceremony in May 2004.
Their first daughter, Leonor, was born in October 2005.

The prince is said to be a big fan of the ‘SexyBack’ singer and is hoping to pick up a few tips from the star, who boasts an impressive six handicap.
A source told: ‘Wills is a huge fan of Justin and wants to go and see him while he is performing in the UK.

Papers released today by the National Archives at Kew, west London, revealed that members of Britain’s Royal Court took their concerns over the wedding souvenirs to the Home Office.
The courtiers were particularly annoyed about the ‘undesirable’ handkerchiefs, produced by the Cheadle Fabric Factory.
However, a Home Office official responded by saying they were acceptable so long as nobody blew their noses on the royal portraits adorning them.
Further complaints came from Home Office official Frederick Dadd, who objected to Union Jack Flags featuring images of the couple.
Dadd claimed the portraits looked like ‘caricatures’ and complained: ‘The representation of the flag is very inaccurate. It is upside down and the horizontal parts of the St George’s Cross are not the same thickness ad the vertical.’ Britain’s Daily Telegraph newspaper reports that despite the uproar, the Home Office ultimately concluded: ‘There are no enforceable rules prohibiting manufacture of articles which, it is considered, should not bear the royal portrait.’

The actress, who claims she has never been a ‘good drug user’, took so many hallucinogens in her youth her parents sent her for treatment.
Chloe confessed to Style magazine: ‘I had a great family life - I would never want it to look as if it reflected on them. I think I was just very bored. And I did just love taking hallucinogens. The ‘Toxic’ singer and Howie Day dined out at Hollywood’s The Bridge restaurant - one of Britney’s favourite eateries - and then visited nightclubs Element, Les Deux, Parc and finally Teddy’s where they partied on Saturday night (29.04.07).
A source told website X17online: ‘They made a handsome couple. They left the club and Howie drove Britney’s Mercedes back to her house and stayed there all night.’ Britney was wearing a lace vintage-style long sleeve mini-dress, brown fedora hat and brown cowboy boots and a new long, dark wig.
The couple met at Malibu’s Promises centre where Britney was being treated for alcoholism and alleged post-partum depression.

The ‘Spider-Man 3′ actor says his life has changed dramatically since his jewellery maker fiancée Jennifer Meyer gave birth to the couple’s first child, Ruby, last November.
Tobey, 31, said: "I have other aspects in my life now. I have a little daughter and that changes things tremendously. "I didn’t do anything for three weeks after she was born, literally didn’t go anywhere or leave where she was for more than an hour. Then for six weeks I wouldn’t do anything that meant leaving her for more than a few hours." Last month, Tobey took Jennifer and Ruby along to the world premiere of ‘Spider-Man 3′ in Tokyo, Japan.
The actor took his family along to the glitzy event because he couldn’t bear to be apart from them.
He said: ‘I love being a dad. I didn’t want to be away from them and I didn’t want my fiancée Jen to miss it. It’s a pretty eventful moment and I wanted to be with them. I haven’t been away for a night yet.’ The superhero movie, which is based on the Marvel comic book series, opens worldwide on May 4.

Christina said: "I needed to lose any sort of self-consciousness because I feel sometimes you can see self-consciousness in a performance when somebody is naked or in a nude scene.
"I really needed for that not to be there, so to help me I stayed the way I would be for the scene all the time - in order to get the crew really used to seeing me that way. Not only was I comfortable, but I could look at anybody’s face and see they were comfortable. "It was really necessary for the crew to be used to me undressed because I was playing someone who places no value on her body. She has no regard for herself so she wouldn’t care if she were clothed or not." The 27-year-old became so used to being naked she was still walking around undressed after filming finished.
She said: "It was kind of funny because, you know, I’m a prude and I do not like walking around naked.
"I was in my bathroom about two months after the movie finished and I was brushing my teeth and I was in my underwear. I looked down and it was like, ‘Oh, god, put something on.’ "And then I just stopped and thought, ‘Oh my god, I was half naked for two months and my ass was on camera.’ "

The former Culture Club singer was arrested on Saturday (28.04.07) after Auden Carlsen alleged George and another man had grabbed him and chained him to a wall in the star’s East London home.

The singer, who was arrested after allegedly attacking an 18-year-old girl in a bar brawl on Saturday (28.04.07), says she has been left "devastated" by the incident.
Amelle, 23, is quoted as saying: "I am devastated this has happened when things were going so well with the band. We’ve just had a great tour and I was having a drink with my sister Laila relaxing on a day off. "The other girls should be the ones punished, not me. What happened was unbelievable and my sister got hit by one of the boys. I am the innocent party." Amelle and her sister Laila, 24, were dancing at Guildford’s Bar Med when they reportedly exchanged words with a group of girls before a fight broke out.
The unnamed 18-year-old victim claims Amelle had to be dragged away by club security after launching a vicious attack - "kicking" and "hitting" her.
The singer spent a few hours in a Surrey police cell, before persuading police to let her make a statement early on Sunday morning (29.04.07), so she could join bandmates Keisha Buchanan and Heidi Range on a flight to Los Angeles.
Last night (30.04.07), police said they were examining CCTV footage of the incident and "continuing with their enquiries".

The ‘Gladiator’ star will take the lead role in ‘Nottingham’, a twist on the usual tale featuring the lawman as the hero working for a corrupt king. The "noble and brave" character will investigate a murder in which outlaw Robin Hood is the main suspect.
An industry insider said: "It’s a role that will suit Russell. The part is something he’ll be able to get his teeth into." The film will also feature a love triangle between the Sheriff, Robin Hood and Maid Marion.
The revisionist take on the Robin Hood legend will give the outlaw a darker side than previous versions. The idea was conceived by writers Ethan Reiff and Cyrus Voris, whose previous films include ‘Bulletproof Monk’. Universal reportedly fought off a number of rival studios for the rights to make the film, including Warner Bros and New Line.
A director is yet to be confirmed for the film, slated for a 2009 release, but both ‘Gladiator’ director Ridley Scott and ‘Spider Man 3′ filmmaker Sam Raimi have been linked with the project.

The supermodel wore a stunning red dress as she briefly appeared in the window of Topshop’s flagship London store in Oxford Street while excited fans queued outside to snap up her designs.
The launch of her new collection almost brought the busy street to a standstill with queues starting early in the morning. To cope with the huge demand, store bosses only let 150 people in at time and were limited to just 20 minutes browsing and allowed to buy just five items each.
Kate, who was paid a reported £3 million to create the designs, invited many of her celebrity friends to the launch including Sadie Frost, Noel Gallagher’s ex-wife Meg Matthews and supermodel Lily Cole.
The 33-year-old catwalk beauty sipped champagne with Topshop boss Sir Philip Green, who lavished praise on his star designer.
He said: "It’s exciting. It wouldn’t be here if we didn’t believe in it. Her style is different." However, some fashion critics have criticised the range, saying Kate has simply copied her own wardrobe from the last few years.
