TIESTO HAUNTED BY ROSKILDE TRAGEDY

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 6:04 pm

Dance music superstar TIESTO has mixed emotions about playing large outdoor festivals because he’s still haunted by the 2000 Roskilde tragedy, which halted his set.
The Just Be hitmaker, real name Tijs Verwest, was forced to cut short his Roskilde set seven years ago after event bosses realised nine music fans had been trampled to death during rock group Pearl Jam’s set.
Tiesto returned to Roskilde in 2001 and will perform at the Danish festival again this summer (07), but, speaking before his show-stopping main stage set at California’s Coachella Festival last night (28Apr07), the Dutch DJ admitted he’s still haunted by the memory of the 2000 tragedy.
He says, "It’s not a very good memory I have of the Roskilde Festival. I played there years ago when the Pearl Jam accident happened; I was supposed to play there and they cancelled my set in the middle. I came back the next year, but it was still shocking.
"Now, when I play festivals I have all this emotion. I love playing Roskilde; it’s one of the most legendary festivals in Europe, but I always remember what happened.
"I can only hope that nothing like that ever happens again. It was terrible."
